Head of UN relief team in Gaza warns of humanitarian crisis if IDF enters Gaza; estimates are that 25,000 Gazans will flee their homes
In parallel to international condemnation of Israel for the Israel Defense Forces operations in the Gaza Strip, the United Nations on Sunday warned of a humanitarian crisis if the go-ahead for a ground incursion is given.
The world body said some 25,000 Gazans will be forced to leave their homes in the north of the strip if the army widens its offensive to include residential areas used by gunmen as grounds to fire Qassams into Israel.
An Israeli ground offensive will also lead to widespread problems linked to sanitation and water, food and medicine supply.
"We estimate that 25,000 people could be forced to flee Beit Hanoun if Israel attacks in the north, as it has indicated," Christer Nordahl, the deputy director of the U.N.'s relief agency in Gaza, told Reuters, referring to a town in the area.
"We're making plans to house those internally displaced in schools and are stockpiling medicine and food supplies to ensure that we can take care of them, and others across the Gaza Strip if the need arises."
"Beit Hanoun is a place that the Israeli army is likely to want to occupy and take complete control of because it wants to stop the rockets being fired from there," Nordahl said.
'I don't know if they will be strong enough'
"It would make it very difficult for us to get aid through to the people who need it, creating a much wider humanitarian crisis," Nordahl said.
"From what I hear, the militant factions will be here to protect us and will use all means possible, including suicide attacks," said Moin al-Athamna, 24, an unemployed man who lost his left leg in Israeli-Palestinian clashes in 2000.
"But I don't know if they will be strong enough for the Israeli forces."

The refugees better brace for the UN (rapists).
U.N.: Joooooooooos must allow Hamas to attack and kill them and not retaliate. The Final Solution can not be completed as long as the Jooooooooooos do not go quietly into the night. Why can't the Joooooooooos just die without too much complaining?
I'll donate to relieve the "Palestinian" "humanitarian" crisis in Gaza, if anyone can point me to a single UN pronouncement- or hint even- that firing rockets at Israel, may cause a humanitarian crises in Sedrot.
To get my donation, you will also need to prove that there can be a humanitarian crisis in Gaza is the absence of any species that resembles anything human.

What sort of worldly humanitarian crisis was announced when Israelis were forced from Gaza last year? And their homes left behind, weren't they built by Israelis?
Seems to me the only crisis would be that these squatters would have to return to their recently vacated filthy slums.
Funny how when Jews lived in Gaza they were referred to as settlers or occupiers. But now that terrorists live there, they are referred to as Gazans.
Live by the sword, die by the sword.
Bookmarked for future reference, great comments.
I hope everyone that loves freedom enjoys their Independence Day holiday, thanks to those that continue to make it possible!
Isn't it just plain awesome how the U.N. is on top of this? NOT!!! They only show up after the shooting stops and then check into 4 star hotels.
A big supply of rubber rafts...GET IT OVER WITH!
There are ways to ensure that there is absolutely no refugee problem, just as the USA would have had no Gitmo detainee trial problem today if they had done the job right in the first place.
With, you know, a little help from the Marxist Internationale.
I'm sure relieved the 82nd or the 101st doesn't have to go up against them.../s
