I fear the lovefeast continues inspite of the outrage of the American people.

I would have to agree with that. It seems pretty solid when none other than "The Architech", Karl Rove, was on the platform at the convention of the National Council of La Raza.

Why do I have the feeling that my government is pi$$ing on me? Somebody please explain this to me.

I'm rooting for Obrador. The current Mexican govt is ruining our country with its policy of exporting its poverty here. At least Obrador promises to help the poor stay in Mexico.

>How agout taxing every money order sent to Mexico?....
Slap a 10% tax on every money transfer to Mexico.<

Better yet, how about 25%?

Your forgetting on more person and who is a prominent person. Senator Brownback will also be in attendance at the La Raza convention on July 8.

Mexican presidential candidates always promise to do something about illegal immigration. When they get elected, they never keep that promise.

Fox was a big disappointment in terms of his relationship with the US. Because he was the first non-PRI leader in 70 years, he felt he had to prove his bona fides by being doubly obnoxious to us. Also, on a personal level, Fox was a little flaky - anybody else remember the bizarre events with his live-in girlfriend, whom he suddenly married in 2001 and who announced a couple of years ago that she wanted to run for president this year? Her behavior had already made her less than popular, and they squelched that idea fast enough!

>government pockets the oil money instead of spending it on the people.<

Reminds me of what all despots the world over do with the money the U.S. sends to help the people. It goes into the pockets of the despots, and the people see none of it. When will we ever learn to have strict supervision of how that money is distributed before letting it out of our hands?

From Today's column by Robert J Samuelson in the Orange County Register:

Pemex is a state-owned monopoly with no competitors and no complaining shareholders. In 2004 it had $69 billion in sales and 137,722 employees. ExxonMobil, in contrast, had $291 billion in sales with 85,900 employees for the same period.

This is typical of businesses in Mexico. Very noncompetitive and protectionist.

And, BTW, very, very corrupt.

An estimated 11 million Mexicans live in the U.S."

This is a bogus estimate. The actual number is probably closer to 45 million.

You can't get an accurate number because the number is increasing on a daily basis. You could probably could get a semi-accurate number of the people illegaly by the number of people who use social services.

I sort of see our conservative leaders ending-up as the current Mexican conservatives, especially given the direction we're taking. They'll be interested only with the rich, and believe me I'm not a class warfare dim idiot...I just realize when you get a boat load of poor people, you end-up having an opposing power that works only for the rich...take Venezuela as a great example.

Without a conservative middle class, there isn't a reputable class of conservatism. Then we might as well shoot a bullet in our head. To me, it's extremely important we don't import poverty on a massive scale or we're asking for it...then again, I think we need to move towards normal people conservatives and less with the elites.

There is STILL no compelling NEED or REASON why mexicans should be granted a pathway to citizenship.

They have their own country.

This taxpayer is sick and tired of paying for these illegals.

I am the eternal optimist. I hope that will not happen here. There are too many patriotic Americans(like myself) who will not let that happen to this great nation. Too many sons and daughters died on the battlefield for the freedoms we cherish The key is to stay informed and have forums like Free Republic alive to publish information the MSM refuses to cover.
