Here are two real situations that I know about. There is an elderly Mexican American living here instead of on land he owns in Mexico, because when he retired to Mexico, Social Security found out and cut his benefits in half. Also, I know many Canadian snowbirds who own homes here. However, their national health insurance is no good here and is cancelled unless they spend at least six months a year in Canada.

With average benefits of $1000/mo the givernments should stop making policies that keep us living in expensive areas and let us find the cheapest places to retire.

The boomer who complains he will not get his money back is completely wrong. Most boomers will claim about 10X what they paid in. Regarding the woman who died, what part of insurance don't you understand? Are you also trying to get a refund on the money she paid for car insurance now that she is no longer driving?

If the policy is cancelled during the paid term, the unused portion of the policy would be refunded.
