ROME, AP - Al-Qaeda leaders sold out Abu Musab al-Zarqawi to the United States in exchange for a promise to let up in the search for Osama bin Laden, the slain militant's wife claimed in an interview with an Italian newspaper. The woman, identified by La Repubblica as al-Zarqawi's first wife, said al-Qaeda's top leadership reached a deal with U.S. intelligence because al-Zarqawi had become too powerful. She claimed Sunni tribes and Jordanian secret services mediated the deal.
Al-Zarqawi, the leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq, died June 7 in a U.S. airstrike outside Baqouba, northeast of Baghdad. "My husband has been sold to the Americans," the woman said in an interview published Sunday. "He had become too powerful, too troublesome."
She was identified only as "Um Mohammed," which means "mother of Mohammed" and would be a nickname, not her full name. The Rome-based newspaper said the interview was conducted in Geneva and described her as Jordanian and about 40 years old. In Jordan, Al-Zarqawi's eldest brother, Sayel, said the family had not been aware of the woman's whereabouts for about two years. "I think a secret pact was struck whose immediate goal was his death," she told the newspaper. "In return, the American troops promised to ease, at least momentarily, their hunt for bin Laden." "Al-Qaeda is currently especially worried with protecting its charismatic leader," she added.
Iraq's national security adviser Mouwafak al-Rubaie said Sunday that al-Zarqawi had been buried secretly in Baghdad despite his family's demand that the body be returned to his native Jordan. On Monday, an Iraqi legislator said authorities found telephone numbers of senior officials in al-Zarqawi's cell phone after his death. Waiel Abdul-Latif, a member of former Prime Minister Ayad Allawi's party, did not give names of the officials. But he said they included ministry employees and members of parliament. He called for an investigation, saying Iraqis "cannot have one hand with the government and another with the terrorists."

This is a disinformation campaign with several versions. The overall theme is that the US Military can't catch a terror leader unless he's handed to us on a silver platter. Day late and a dollar short, we already got Saddam.

Might be true, might not. So far, it looks like her opinion and HER unsubstantiated tales.
We know the Arab press vigorously supports the terrorists.
I wonder when the tales will come out like this about which stories the US (liberal/socialist/internationalist - but I repeat myself) MSM supported and which ones they rejected to support OBL and AZ ....
---
By the way, notice how FIRMLY and RESOLUTELY she is supporting the terrorists: A society like that has no "innocent" civilians.

Godspeed and good hunting to our troops.

Keeping in mind I'm making this up as I go along, what if Osama needed the bucks($25mil) and Zarcoward was getting a little too much press to suit him?
Hey, it could happen!

She was identified only as "Um Mohammed," which means "mother of Mohammed" Interesting, because my first thought about this story was, "Um....this is B.S."
My instincts must be right, since in Arabic, that would translate into: "The mother of B.S."

"It may include dramatic strikes, visible on TV, and covert operations, secret even in success. We will starve terrorists of funding, turn them one against another, drive them from place to place, until there is no refuge or no rest. And we will pursue nations that provide aid or safe haven to terrorism. Every nation, in every region, now has a decision to make. Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists. From this day forward, any nation that continues to harbor or support terrorism will be regarded by the United States as a hostile regime."

Ah yes. A news-flash from Credibility Central. The only way I could believe this any less is if it was published in the New York Times. ...or announced by Dan Rather.

No, it couldn't happen.

I don't think we want to go any farther down that road, as I'm getting some DISTRUBING IMAGES, mainly having to do with whips, thigh high leather boots and someone saying "thank you misstress may I have another".

Go back and check out the rhetoric Zarqawi was spewing only days before he cashed in on his al-Qaeda retirement plan (mardom).
This story may not be completely on the up and up but I'm betting it's not that far off either.

I actually like this story. It basically says that OBL gave up Zarqawi to save his own skin. Good psyops if you ask me. The impact of this story on the "Arab street" is more important than the fact that we all see through it.
After all, Zarqawi was out there battling the Great Satan on the field of battle. OBL hasn't even had the courage to issue a video tape in years...
