Anyone interested in watching the rock group, The Who, perform an entire concert online for FREE, check out the website www.thewholive.tv - follow the links to see the show. I watched the Hyde Park show yesterday and it was fantastic !! Just a FYI for some Who fans or rock fans !! Today's show starts at approx. 4 pm EST and two others on July 5, 6 for free. It's a good deal to watch one of the greatest rock bands ever !!
I saw The Who in December 1982 at the Cotton Bowl.
Of all the countless concets I had seen, nothing could compare. Best live band ever.
But, it's hard to still call the band "The Who" when the drummer and bass player are no longer alive. It's more like two guys who used to be in the Who.
It's like Page and Plant touring as Led Zeppelin.
Without Keith Moon or John Entwistle? I think I'll pass.
"One of"?
How is Pete's hearing these days? Does he play electric this tour?
Well, it's not like they left The Who because of creative differences, but I see your point.
Guess you haven't seen them live lately !! They are still fantastic .
Is Who on first or is there an opening act?
Yeah, Pete plays electric the entire show
They are playing a lot of festivals in the UK right now, so there are other opening bands. But the internet broadcast is just them, about 1 hr. 45 mins yesterday - you have to be patient, the show starts a few mins. late here or there.....Just go to the website and click on where it says The Who live and wait. They use realplayer for the video. You can use full screen mode too.
I have the greatest admiration for Pete Townshend and Roger Daltry, but I'm more of a rhythm section kind of guy, and Entwistle and Moon were two of the best in my book.
I'm not saying you shouldn't enjoy it. I'm only saying that it wouldn't be the same for me.

I couldn't get any streaming content, just the promo, to play.
Are there only certain hours, even for the rebroadcast Hyde Park show?
And still $1 for live concert viewing.
Did they play any new material? How were the arrangements of older material? 5 piece band or more people?
I've seen 'em 5 times in concert, most recently in 2004 at MSG .... but the one that is most memorable is the first time, June 14th 1974 at MSG, where 4 (count 'em FOUR!) Les Paul' guitars went down in infamy on that hot torrid June evening!
Long Live Rock !
Yeah, its not the same obviously. But Ringo Starr's son, Zak Starkey, is playing drums now, and he is quite good. He doesn't sound like Ringo, lol. They have Pino Palladino playing bass. He is no slouch either.
You need to click on the area where it says The Who Live - its the second bar down on the righthand side. Just click on it and wait. The show will come online when they get on stage.
Hope I die before . . . .ahhh f it.
See, now why didn't you say that? Pino is outstanding. He's not John Entwistle, but I might just watch that.
Thank God Zak Starkey doesn't sound like Ringo. Not that there's anything wrong with that....
Just got a message on there, starting the show about 4:15 pm....they are showing archive footage now from other tours.
Check it out, Zak is quite good, better than Kenney Jones, who initially replaced Moon.
Is this part of the Who's Left tour?
The Who's on first..
The What's on second..
Its says 9:15 on the site, which is UK time, so that is 4:15 pm on EST.
The WHO? Y'mean the World Health Organisation? (humor)
He was outstanding during the 9/11 concert. Quite impressive.
btt
You read my mind. Behind Blue Eyes, My Wife--dang, too many years!
Do they rebroadcast later?
They looped last night's show all night, so its possible they will loop this one also.....
It's running a bit late but everyone should be able to see the archived songs right now.....they should be hitting the stage anytime now
"every day I get confused"
Don't keep up much with current events, do ya? He was totally cleared. Do some reading next time...........good lord..............
It's live now - Pete singing
Guess Who is the opening act. Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings re-united.
No way.
Cool.
I've always like Randy Bachman. Excellent guitar player and pretty good guy.
Just kidding, a play on Who's on First.
Color me gullible.
I saw The Who last year in Sydney and they were fantastic. Even though there's no Keith Moon, Ringo Starr's son was great on the drums. Pete Townsend has incredible energy and Roger Daltry looks as "pretty" as ever and sounded great.
"I'm more of a rhythm section kind of guy, and Entwistle and Moon were two of the best in my book"
30 year fan here and yes it is tough without Keith and John, but since it is free, check it out. Zack Starky (yes Ringo's son) is a fantastic drummer in the mold of Moony. Keith actually gave Zack his first drum kit way back when he was a young lad. Pino Paladino is no slouch on the bass either.
The charges were dropped against Pete Townshend after it came to light that he had emailed an Internet Watch group about what he had found. Police had also confiscated 14 of his computers and found zero child pornography. Compare that to Gary Glitter where they found over 4,000 images. Pete Townshend is no pedophile. You can't hide something like that when the police are ransacking your house and pouring over every picture you've ever downloaded. He was cleared after a four month investigation.
Of course, his exoneration wasn't reported nearly as widely as the initial hyperventilaing allegations. Which is a rotten shame.
Anyway, Pete Townshend is one of rock's all-time greatest songwriters and all-time greatest guitarists. In fact, no one else in all of rock ranks so highly in both categories. He's a living legend and I will certainly be seeing The Who when they come to the States. Long Live The Who.
You've got your information absolutely correct. It's a shame that the exoneration isn't reported as often as the initial charges. Same thing with Rush's drug stories.
The WHO = greatest live rock band EVER!<<<
Absolutely!!
I can never thank the friend WHO got me into The Who music enough!
Although I have never seen them perform LIVE I DO have a couple CDs from their most recent tours! Looking forward to the CDs and hopefully, a DVD that will come from the present tour!
They're the greatest!!
Thank you, WT. Had it on as I set up dinner.
The MSM/liberal types absolutely thrive on the politics of personal destruction ... gossip is a big thing to them, childish as it may be. Pete might not be a conservative just yet, but after decades of watching his (liberal) g-g-g-generation fritter and waste its talents on stupidity, even he is beginning to see the light, as posted in his website diary:
There is also one diary entry where he rips Michael Moore a 'new one' (as it were) ... but I can't find the link, otherwise here is a link to Pete's entire online diary:
If anything, Pete Townshend is honest, almost brutally honest to a fault! Isn't that the antithesis of how liberals operate?
Hey...there was a FREeeper here, NYC GOP Chick..who is a Big WHO fan...I haven't seen her post here in over a year and I am worried. I met her on pt.com, at the WHO forum there, in 2002. Do you know her, or what might have happened to her?
thanks
Also...I wanted to log in to that feed, dangit!
Ditto here. I saw them at the Bowl in 04, Irvine in 02,and LA in 82. The greatest rock and roll band...period.
