Fourth of July Tribute to WWII Vets
Dr. Sam Managed Music ^ | Dr. Sam/Managed Care Band

Hi Everyone:

I used to be a pretty active poster, but haven't had time in quite awhile because of other recent issues. I hope Jim, the mods and you all will indulge me in this tribute to the veterans of WWII as we celebrate the 4th of July. Over 2,000 WWII veterans are passing every day, and we need to thank them. It's important to remember it's more than just a barbecue day. My dad is one of the veterans, and he and I both honor his comrades of yesterday and those fighting bravely today.

I wish you all of the best for this holiday and remember all of our patriots from every war, and to all who served or are serving! I hope you are as moved by this post as I was, and thanks for the opportunity for one vanity.

Thanks,

One WWII vet I only knew as a quiet guy at church and a US postal worker, Jake McNeice.
He is one of those rare guys with four combat jumps during WWII.

God love Jake! My dad passed away. He had 6 combat jumps. We miss him more each day. Just his quiet strength, you know? Now we're saying goodbye to so many of our friends from the Vietnam era too. I hate it. Thanks to everyone in every walk of life who chose to defend our country in every way they could. Freedom. Independence. Never meant more than it does now.

My Dad was one of those veterans, along with many of his friends. Several of them marched to Berlin. One told me, in private, of his march through the Black Forest. ("Keep your socks dry and p*ss on your fingers and toes to keep 'em warm.")

God bless them and all those who served, past and present.

I treasure the picture of my Dad in Berlin next to a cannon and have had it enlarged - he reacts with bemusement/humility over my obvious love of this photo. What a skinny young kid, who (could be just a war story, but we enjoyed it) - had to eat a pound of bananas an hour before being recruited to make the weight requirement. Makes you feel proud to this day!
