This Fourth of July it's right to spend some time thinking about what it means not just to be an American, but to be a patriot -- because the concept of patriotism itself is under assault in ways that remind me of a different time in our history.
When we protested the war in Vietnam some would weigh in against us saying: "My country right or wrong." Our response was simple: "Yes, my country right or wrong. When right, keep it right and when wrong, make it right."
I feel history repeating itself.

This guy is incredible. His picture is in the Vietnam war museum as a tribute to those who helped the NVA win the war and he has the gall to tell us that is patriotism?? Do not piss on my leg and tell me it's raining
John Kerry the Patriotic Dork!
How did you get an item from Huffington to post here? I've tried before and gotten a message that Huffington items cannot be posted on FR.
"Al Gore is a patriot this Fourth of July who is living out that kind of love of country -- and we need more like him."
We've got more like him. We've got John Kerry, Ted Kennedy, Patrick Leahy, Hillary Clinton, Michael Moore, Patty Shehan...
WOW, I must have missed the part in this "editorial" where he praises our troops overseas as they carry the hope of freedom and liberty to previously oppressed people. Nope, Kerry talks about Abu Grahib....dork is too kind a word.
John Kerry on patriotism ---Bwahahaaahhaa
Thats a little like Saddam Hussein speaking for Human rights.
Why dosnt John Kerry speak to us on how hard it was being brought up a poor man in Massachusetts. His qualifications are about the same for one as the other. LMAO.
Is this fool really this stupid?
Gag.
You going to throw away your purple hearts again, John?????
I was flying over there when this piss ant was back here being a Patriot. NO THANKS!!!!
This is all part of Kerry's revisionist history. He lied to get his medals and ablut his fellow vets to advance his personal ambitions. He has always wanted it both ways, i.e., a war hero and an anti-war hero. He was never the former and a traitor in the latter.
I feel John Kerry repeating himself. No disturbance in the force here.
Except now that he's a Senator, maybe he won't overlook plots to make the country "right" by assassinating other US Senators. Still and all, if he offers to go to Paris to meet al Qaeda, I hope the NYT goes with him. We all know what happens to roaches when light is shined on them.
Don't they put people in rubber rooms whose minds are left in the past????
Gee, thanks for the instructions, A-hole.
There was an earlier thread this morning about the folks in Barnstable, Mass. who, at the time just prior to the Revolutionary War, were more willing to remain Loyalists to the British Crown than become independent ... I think this Loyalist thing is somehow genetic, passed down among succeeding generations. Now they call themselves "Democrats," although they are anything but ...

What an incredible idiot, he goes right back to Vietnam in the first sentence!
Indeed he is. What offends me most is that he thinks we are, too.
I cannot associate Kerry with 'Love of Country' and 'protested vietnam' in the same breath....sorry, he doesn't care about his Country....only thing this slime bug cares about is the money his wify has and himself....
Show me a scar or show me a stitch from one of those purple hearts.
You can bet he would have shown them to us if he had 'em!
"But does anyone think we're well served when leaders hold themselves above the law--in the way they not only treat prisoners in Abu Ghraib"
Above the law? Didn't people go to jail for that? Oh that's right, I guess the PRESIDENT should go to jail any time a member of the armed forces breaks the law.
Kerry's more French... than British. Is there such a thing as a French Loyalist? ;)
..... "I have said publicly for years that weapons of mass destruction in the hands of Saddam Hussein pose a real and grave threat to our security and that of our allies in the Persian Gulf region. Saddam Hussein's record bears this out. "
..... It is clear that in the 4 years since the UNSCOM inspectors were forced out, Saddam Hussein has continued his quest for weapons of mass destruction.
..... Regime change has been an American policy under the Clinton administration, and it is the current policy. I support the policy.

We will not quickly join those who march on Veterans' Day waving small flags, calling to memory those thousands who died for the "greater glory of the United States." We will not accept the rhetoric. We will not readily join the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars -- in fact, we will find it hard to join anything at all and when we do, we will demand relevancy such as other organizations have recently been unable to provide. We will not take solace from the creation of monuments or the naming of parks after a select few of the thousands of dead Americans and Vietnamese. We will not uphold traditions which decorously memorialize that which was base and grim. -- John Kerry, in "The New Soldier
We have already reclaimed America's true independence and Kerry can't handle it. Things are right, but they could be better - but we are a lot better off than when the Dums were in charge. And I only shutter to think where we would be had Kerry been elected.

frenchie is a loathsome creature, but he serves a purpose. As in 2004 as long as his horse face the face of anti Americanism we will win in the end.

The "when it's wrong make it right" analogy to Vietnam should make this dork gag. Cutting and running in Vietnam caused the death of millions of innocent civilians. Thanks John, the world loves you for that one.

South Korea thanks God each day that John Kerry was born too late to help Communists to take over the south. John Kerry helped strengthen the Communists. Just look at South Korea and the progress they have made in the world of commerce. John Kerry was born too late to assist North Korea. Kerrys world is a dangerous world where America should ignore Communist threats and murderous regimes. Can you imagine Kerry as president and Daniel Ortega winning an election again? It could happen.
Burgess Meredith's character, a librarian, has been brought before a STATE tribunal. There are no more books so he's declared obsolete. The LEADER uses an analogy of obsolescense where there are no more ministers because the STATE has proven that there is no GOD! Burgess responds that the state has replaced (my paraphrase), Logic with Lies!
Maybe this episode needs to be played during the coming election cycles to confronT the likes of the Hildebeast, AlGored, aND THEIR ILK!
Tune in next week for the second in Kerry's "How to" series, "How to Beat Your Wife."
I find it incredible that John Kerry can say the word "craven" without choking on it
Scary thing is, about 60 Million votes were cast for Kerry.
Oh come on, John Effin Kerry. However one feels about the debate on the flag amendment, it hardly amounts to "shredding" the Constitution. What nonsense.
Yes it was wrong to fight Communism, it was right to let the communist slaughter millions after we pulled out of Vietnam.
That's Kerry's patriotism.
That's why I felt I had to add it to the title... he's so obsessed with keeping up his charade on America. The MSM could have a field day with this editorial... but they won't and that's how he's gotten away with it for 30 years.
"America has always been stronger when we have not only proclaimed free speech, but listened to it."
So according to Jean Francois, America will only be strong when we listen to and heed the senseless, mindless prattling of geniuses like himself and AlGore.
The First Amendment gives him the right to speak. It also gives me the right to stuff my ears with cotton whenever he opens his mouth. And BTW, the amendment process is part of our Constitution.
What a great day to consider how pitiful the odds were then, and how that fact just magnifies the glory of our heritage.
A great day to consider that a free nation will see many challenges from within and without, and that America has a tremendous legacy of coming out on top, making the world a much better place as a result.
A nice time to think, not just about the challenges liberty faces, but about the sureness of the victory of the cause of liberty.
Because for everyone that publicly expresses doubt or disdain for this cause, there are a hundred who will quietly pray and work for it.
Move along folks; there's nothing here to see. Why would anyone want to read the words of a traitor on the Fourth of July?
Yes. Next question...
Happy Birthday, America!
Pinz
You can bet he would have shown them to us if he had 'em!
He has the hat.
You'd think a former naval officer, of all people, would remember Stephen Decatur's entire toast: "My country...may she always be right, but right or wrong, my country."
