Mexico left-wing candidate demands recount of each vote-BBCIn other news, gravity keeps things from floating away...
To: SierraWasp
And .. according to Mexican law .. it appears that a "recount" is automatic if the winning percentage is 1% or less - which it was purported to be.
So .. just like the dems, this guy is squealing like a stuck pig when it wasn't even necessary.

The Gore precident. The damage that jack-a$$ did to US and world politics will be felt for the rest of our lives. When the US Presidential election was allowed to turn into a circus side show, every state, local, and foreign election won by the right will forever follow suit.

Taking a page from the 2000 Gore playbook, demand recounts over and over again, still hoping for a different outcome.
Sorry, Lopez-Obrador. Your margin of victory has already fled from Mexico, and perhaps shall NEVER return.
To: SierraWasp
This could become a very interesting week in Mexico.
I have very little faith in the people running the election because the government doesn't run anything else without corruption. I can't imagine election results are an exception.
But I do have to say that it's remarkable that the PRI candidate finished so poorly that he's not even a factor in the upcoming election turmoil.
Mexico has become as polarized as the US. Conservatives vs. hard leftists. Moderate leftists are becoming irrelevant.

You have to keep in mind that liberals don't actually 'lose' elections. Elections are often 'stolen' from liberals, but they are always 'entitled' to that victory. Liberalism is the mainstream, or the norm. Just some things to keep in mind.

Hate to be the voice of common sense but in reality a assasination of Obrador would probably be incredibly bad, probably weeks and months of riots and stuff, in the end the US and Calderon and his party would take the greatest brunt.

I wonder if that is going to be business as usual from now on. When a conservative wins by a narrow margin, the liberal automatically challenges the result and threatens to raise social tensions to the point of violence?

Obrador's supporters plan to recount the votes themselves and determine the intention of each voter--nevermind whatever the ballot says. (To the Left, intentions are the only things that matter.) If their recount fails, they intend to declare Calderon's election illegitimate anyway and to set up a shadow government to snipe at and saboutage the Calderon government in every possible way. Meanwhile, Obrador intends to make a movie. He's thinking about an up-dated version of Chicken Little.

Do the results of the Mexican election really matter to us gringos?
I had high hopes for Mexico when former Coca Cola executive Fox was elected, but it only meant more of the same failed-state policies of the past.
Seems to me that no matter who is wearing the sash of El Presidente down there, Mexico will still be a corrupt, mismanaged basket case of a nation that continues to actively "encourage" its surplus population to invade our country.
