School bus crashes on I-95 July 05, 2006 19:06 EDT
ABERDEEN, Md. (AP) -- A Harford County emergency official says 57 people have been injured -- four seriously -- in a bus crash on northbound Interstate 95 in the Aberdeen area.
Harford County Fire E-M-S spokesman Rich Gardner says there are NO fatalities.
Gardner says four children in serious condition were flown to Johns Hopkins Children's Center. He says 27 people with minor injuries were taken to local hospitals.
State police Sergeant David Jones says the bus involved in the crash was one of six returning to Norris Square Day Camp in Philadelphia from the National Aquarium in Baltimore.
All northbound and southbound lanes of I-95 have been closed while emergency crews work on the scene.
Non-injured children, parents and staff were taken to the Maryland House rest stop. Parents going to the scene should go to the information center on the second floor of the Maryland House.
Guess how many of the kids had SEAT BELTS....on a GOVERNMENT OWNED/OPERATED School Bus.
Now try to figure out why the number was ZERO..

You refer to those straps that the law requires in cars but not on school buses or public transportation buses. Doesn't add up, does it?
Remember though, when we buy a car we are paying for the seat belt, too. If the parents of children who use school buses want this safety measure for their kids, they should care enough to bear the expense. It's quite obvious that lots of these parents are materialistic...they have to have it all, even if it takes two salaries to attain it. On another side of the coin, why should we have to accommodate, even more, those who have children they, literally, cannot support?
Taxpayers already shell out too much of their income for public schools. The unceasing demands of the NEA for more and more of our dollars amounts to nothing less than greed, IMO.
It's past time for people to stop looking to all the taxpayers to fund their chosen life-style.
Who pays for school buses to take children on field trips...in the summer? Just wondering.
