When it became clear that the Taepodong 2 missile North Korea test-launched early on July 4 had broken up less than a minute into flight and plunged into the Sea of Japan, many Americans felt a sense of relief. After all, the missile belonging to a class that is thought capable of reaching the U.S. mainland had failed, and Kim Jong Il had been embarrassed in the eyes of the world, if not those of the North Koreans who were told nothing of the tests outcome. But an embarrassed menace is a menace nonetheless. Despite North Koreas failure this week and regardless of whether it launches another long-range missile, as some reports indicate it is preparing to do Kims regime is a greater threat now than it has ever been.

This is a great title. The National Review Editorial Board described the North Korean missile test perfectly.

Send him over the edge. The more hysterical he gets, the more stupid and un-tactical he'll be. And the more stupid...less threat.

Since the Taepodong-2 missile failed horribly, and Kim Jong II may think he has lost face, will he become angry and pull a 'I'll show them' and do something stupid?

But with every blunder the North Koreans make, Iran is taking notes making sure they will not repeat the mistakes.

Ummmm ....wait, fellas:
I was a bad boy...listening to NPR...and they had a couple "experts" on...from the usual list of commie think tanks....and their universal reaction is, "the threat from NK missiles has been HYPED to sell SDI. Time to CUT CUT CUT the program to SPEND SPEND SPEND on the poor", etc.
It'll be a Dem plank fer sherrrr.
Kim might be a step ahead, demonstrating ostensible failure, to ratchet up opposition to anti missile defense, etc. Dialecticus Maximus.

I don't see how this isn't a gigantic embarrassment for Kim. Its 2006, not 1936. Missle technology is well known and has been for decades. Its not like North Korea was trying to do something that had never been done before.
To: Democratshavenobrains
Kim Jong Il is using his rockets and nuclear bombs to blackmail his neighbors and the world to providing him with the energy and the food he desperately needs. He is also using the same technology to arm Iran in their bid to blackmail their part of the world. If you stop North Korea and their rocket program you will stop Iran and curtail their nuclear ambitions.

Iran's Shehab-3 missile is based on the Nodong missile built by the North Koreans. The North Koreans and the Iranians have a long history together which began in 1988.
In 1993, an Iranian delegation traveled to North Korea to sign an agreement to begin cooperation on long range missiles. The Iranians have a huge stake on how these tests go. They are taking notes as the North Koreans are stumbling in the dark on both the diplomatic front and the military front The Iranians will not make the same mistakes the North Korans are making.

N. Korea has not "lost face" just because a missile failed. All other countries who began a missile program had test failures again and again. Each failure teaches how to correct for the next shot.
At the end of the day it will be apparent that the U.S. should have zapped N. Korea right away and not wait until after LA is taken out by an erratic missile that didn't fail..
Have we learned nothing?
