Pelosi Statement on June's Tepid Jobs Report
House Democratic Leader ^

Posted on 07/07/2006 8:52:51 AM PDT by Sub-Driver

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 07, 2006

CONTACT: Brendan Daly/Jennifer Crider 202-226-7616 Pelosi Statement on June's Tepid Jobs Report

Washington, D.C. – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today in response to the tepid jobs report that showed only 121,000 new jobs created in June, while real wages have remained stagnant over the last three years. Growth in payroll employment has been anemic under the Bush Administration, averaging only 42,000 per month compared to job growth of 237,000 per month under the Clinton Administration. Below are Pelosi’s statement and a chart showing how Republicans have turned their backs on the middle class:

"President Bush and Congressional Republicans are crowing about the economy even while it continues in the wrong direction for most American families.

"The President just doesn’t get it. Many Americans are living paycheck to paycheck and families are struggling to make ends meet – as gas prices and health care costs are doubling, oil prices remain at record level, and real family income has stalled. Republicans continue to drive up America record national debt with tax breaks for their Big Oil cronies, while denying a pay raise for 15 million Americans.

"Democrats have a New Direction for America that brings economic opportunity and security to all Americans – not an economy that work for just the wealthy few and Big Oil cronies."

It's the start of summer, so both employers looking and people who want to look are down; nothing unusual.

"President Bush and Congressional Republicans are crowing about the economy even while it continues in the wrong direction for most American families

Define: most American families

Those on the dole or unwilling to work, I suspect.

just listen to the hypocrisy in the same statement:

"gas prices and health care costs are doubling, oil prices remain at record levels......."

"Republicans.................tax breaks".

So Pelosi is going to lower health care costs and gasloine prices by having the federal government take more taxes from us? Right? NOT

Nancy Pelosi is herself a business owner.

I wonder how well she treats her employees.

I'm guessing there's a 0% chance that she allows them to unionise.

LMAO, she uses the Clinton recession years to come up with the lowest average she can work up for Bush's job creation figures, ignoring the fact that job growth during the Bush RECOVERY period has average well into the 100,000 jobs created range each month. This witch hasn't had word one to say about the economy for years now, but with one job creation report she calls "tepid," suddenly she's interested in talking economics again. Such dishonesty.

Ted kennedy puts it best for her. Lie after Lie after Lie after Lie. To them it matters not that our people are murdered or economy suffers. Its all about GW, nothing else matters just as long as they can be in power.

I'd love to hear just one of the conservatives get indignant about them on the TV and tell it like it really is.

After Pelosi became Minority Leader the Economist Magazine did a cover story comparing her district to Hastert's district. They pointed out, among other things, that Hastert's district was noticeably "middle America" and that hers was,as I said, homosexuals and street bums...but they put it in a more genteel,*British* way.

That seems really low. Is that 42,000 number accurate? I mean, there was the recession and 9/11 but beyond that, there has been really frickin strong job growth after those two things.

Or is this just a manipulation of statistics?

Listening to a little too much Michael Savage lately? Pelosi represents Marin County which has some of the most expensive residential real estate in the nation. It's where the rich people in San Francisco move when they get tired of the homeless who they have empowered to take over the city.

I agree that the Democrats have no answers but I don't see how anyone could seriously suggest that we are better off than a couple of years ago. I don't think I know anyone who believes that. If the national average unemployment rate is as low as is claimed then there must be areas where everybody has three jobs because it is certainly nothing like that in my area.

By "wrong direction" you mean the economy is getting stronger, right Nance? And by "most American families" you mean Democrats who are seeing their premature takeover of the House vanish into thin air because they are idiots with no plan and no vision; isn't that what you meant, Nance?

The left in America MUST discount and try to discredit any achievement of the Bush Administration in an attempt to whitewash the legacy of the most corrupt administration in history, the Clinton Administration. To this end, anything positive is negative. Any destructive act is Bush's doing. Any benevolent act is not good enough and no good deed will go unpunished by the likes of the filthy, treasonous, vile and morally bankrupt left in this country.

If she wants lower gas prices, it should be easy enough.

Eliminate the ridiculous EPA regulations for 200 different blends of fuel.

Drill for oil off the coast of California.

Drill for oil in ANWR.

Drill for oil in the Gulf of Mexico.

Build half a dozen new refineries in California.

Build 10 or 20 nuclear power plants near San Francisco.

I know some who spend like drunken sailors who have been six months at sea but it is not because they are making so much money, it is because they are juggling a mountain of debt and adding to it at every opportunity. They owe far more than everything they own is worth, have spent their retirement money before they are old enough to retire and would need to live to be 100 to get out of debt if they started living below their income immediately. Unfortunately this type is not uncommon these days.

There are always places in the country that do not reflect the aggregate or the average conditions in the country; but the methodologies for the statistics have not changed significantly in a long time.

So, if there is some really big anomaly in the numbers, it has been there for a long time and you'd have to take the position that most of the employment statistics for the last 30 years have been wrong most of the time.

Is there anything in the overall experience of the country to believe that? No.

Not only did the above ground economy generate 121,000 new jobs; But the unemployment numbers which were expected to increase actually declined. Thus there are significantly fewer people looking for work .... and this in June when people leave school and enter the job market.

Where I work, they can't find enough (qualified) people.

If one believes the anti illegal posters here, the underground economy is also doing extremely well.

The real Pelosi situation is that if the economy overheated, she would blame Bush for causing inflation and high interest rates.

For every buyer there is a seller. Bush buys America and believes it has future value. Pelosi sells America in the belief that it will lose value.

Do the buyers and sellers need each other?
