North Korea informed China of its test-firing of missiles: top U.S.envoy

BEIJING, July 7 (Yonhap) -- North Korea informed China of its plan to test-fire missiles prior to the North's missile launches this week, a top U.S. diplomatic envoy said Friday.

U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Hill said at a press conference that he heard from Chinese officials the North informed China of its plan for the test-firing of ballistic missiles earlier Wednesday.

Hill, who has visited China as part of his tour of nations involved in the six-party talks on North Korea's nuclear arms, made the remarks before he headed to Seoul.

On Wednesday, the North shocked the world by launching seven missiles, including a Taepodong-2 long-range missile, believed to be capable of reaching the western parts of the United States.

Hill said that the North "unfortunately" did not conform with China's advice not to conduct the test launches of the missiles, adding that it was the wrong decision for the North to have chosen the course, which could deepen its isolation in the international community.

I guess we can connect the dots with the NORAD alert of a few days before the test. Good to know we had that channel of communication and it didn't leak.

Uh no, the world was not shocked that NK launched missiles.

Most likely it was all orchestrated by China.

They're locking onto our radar detection systems to see how they can disable them for their attack on Taiwan.

That is, according to John Loftus, who is right on occasion and has been known to be wrong too......but this scenario makes sense.

I'm sure the ChiComs informed the USA in a timely manner. /sarcasm

Boy...I don't remember it..but don't go by me, I haven't been able to spend much time on FR lately.

I will say..that is would have been nice of China to say something to the US before they fired the missles..

It makes sense to me...that China would sacrifice Korea (both halves)...just to "check out" our ability to defend ourselves.

I really, really hate that we are so indebted to China.

It is to China's advantage that we are busy with NK, Iran, and Iraq and Afghanistan. They have designs on Taiwan.

Frankly, I don't see what we can do about that under any circumstances at all.

You know...I am glad to see you say that.

I have read that we have some kind of agreement that we WILL defend Taiwan...and I scratch my head and wonder if that is a good idea. I don't want anything to happen to Taiwan...or any "free" nation.

However, except for Israel, I just can't imagine putting our country at more risk of nuclear annihilation for Taiwan confuses me.

The North Koreans probably don't take a crap before asking permission from the Red Chinese.

Remember that the next time you go into a store and see a product with "Made in China" on it.

I'm sure I read somewhere the X42 made the statement that we won't be defending Taiwan. Seems the klinton's owe the chinese.....big time.

Most people don't realize how important Taiwan is. Start with metal castings from China that are than machined in Taiwan and than shipped to America and Europe and assembled into finished goods. Than electronic components (chips)and circuit boards and computers and other sub-assemblies and products that come from Taiwan and Hong Kong. A war with Taiwan and China would have world economic repercussions. Walmart is just a pine cone in the economic tree that would fall.

Okay..I see that point..but, you lumped Taiwan and China together..

What if (and I am totally ignorant here, so I am not being argumentative), China DID strike Taiwan...since you lumped them together...would it really be worthy of a possible WW to help them AGAINST China???

Follow that line of thought through. Is it worth it to China to go to war over Taiwan? If the United States has obligated itself by treaty to defend Taiwan and China still attacks what does that say of their fear of the United States and they risk war anyway? Why than would China just stop there and not press for all of Korea and than Japan and the Philippines and Australia and all of the Pacific rim?

If China attacks Taiwan war is upon us regardless if we want it or not. The Japanese made the very same mistake about the United States in WWII. Japan was already invading and taking over China and Manchuria and we sent aid to help the Chinese than, including the Flying Tigers all volunteer air force and material aid to General Chiang Kai-shek. The Chinese would gamble on a passive America if they avoided any loss of U.S. life to keep us out of the conflict. They rammed one of our P3 surveillance aircraft recently and captured the crew to test our resolve. They are pulling the NK chain and using them to test our resolve. They are bumping up against us at every turn to test our resolve. They were helping Saddam and Iraq rebuild their air defense systems with fiber optic command and control prioir to the Iraq war because we would daily take out their radars and SAM sites enforcing the no fly zone and daily Iraq would shoot at us and we would take out their sites. Some Chinese were killed in the process. We killed a few Chinese in the Serbian capital in Clinton's wag the dog war when the Chinese embassy building accidentally got bombed by a B-1 because it had a few parts they acquired from the one and only stealth fighter to be shot down. We did not accidentally hit their embassy. We know it and they know it.

We are going to go to war with China sooner or later and sooner benefits us and not them. They are waiting to gain strength and hope to catch us weaker or with a weak person in the White House. They will wait for another Jimmy Carter to show up. They know Bush would respond and they are planning an attack if a pacifist is elected after him.

WOW...what a post!

Thank you...yes, you spelled it out very well..and I understand, unfortunately, because when I am on a lot of threads on FR lately, I fear that a lot of the Conservative Republicans MAY stay home in November...which could give the House a majority, which means certain impeachment hearings for Bush...

which WOULD weaken the US, even with Bush as POTUS/CIC.

Then what...HILLARY gets in in 2008???

I am really depressed now, gee, thanks....LOL

Seriously, I thank you for your patience in explaining this to me...

Gosh, Mo1, I don't remember an article like that, but then my memory isn't what it used to be either. Is this perhaps one of the reasons why China isn't backing us in the UN with a resolution -- because they knew about the firing and although they advised against it, just aren't upset about it for some reason we have yet to fathom?
