While North Korea was gearing up to launch a long range missile and five rockets into the Sea of Japan this week, sending a grim message to the entire world, out at Saddleback Church Rick Warren was announcing that he will soon be bringing his message of purpose to North Korea where he reportedly will be addressing an audience of 15,000.
God is using Rick Warren to be a messenger of peace! gushed one Saddleback member. There is great hope in Lake Forest that Rick Warren's message in that stadium will cause Kim Jong II to drop his nuclear purposes and embrace some kinder, gentler ones.
But who exactly will be sitting in that stadium when Mr. Warren steps up to the podium? Given the level of government induced starvation in that country, the average North Korean would be lucky to have the strength to walk to the stadium to hear him in the first place.

My messenger of peace.....
Then Rick should be in good shape because a lot of people around here aren't speaking well of him at all.
Maybe that will help, and save him the jet lag.

So ronery...
Sounds incredibly naive. The stadium will probably be filled with North Korean soldiers and party stooges. The North Korean regime would never allow the average North Korean to hear a message that preaches there is a higher power than the midget Kim Jong Mentally Ill. In North Korea, he and his deranged father were and are God.
Warren speaking to 15,000: I want you to know that there is a purpose for your life
Translator: Working for Kim Jong will bring true happiness
Warren: and prosperity
Translator: and you will eat succulent meals
Warren and peace
Translator: and you will crush the enemies of the people with your vast strength
And we all know what happend to Hanz Brix
Oh, boy!
It may be naive. But I applaud him for going. How will they hear without a preacher? He's following the great commission. Personally, I think that more times than not, God's will is accomplished through the naive rather than through the "wise" and "logical."
I'm not a Warren fan, living in the US we have a wealth of voices to choose from, and he's just one of many.
In North Korea there is only one voice allowed. Into this environment any voice from the West has got to be a breath of fresh air. I remember when Billy Graham first went into the Soviet Union years ago, he was criticized because he was fairly circumspect in his remarks, and he refused to criticize the regime. But it was a crack in the wall, and not many years later, thanks to God and Reagan, the walls came down.
There are always the false ones in the wings.
I gotta agree. So, if one person comes to Christ, it was worth it.
susie
I don't have a problem with him going. My issue is with the idea it will have any impact. The North Koreans always carefully stage manage these kinds of things. The audience will be filled with soldiers and party faithful while putting forth the idea to the rest of the world that North Korea is somehow an open society. And in the end, nothing will change. Certainly North Korea's determination to fire off missiles or develop nukes will not be changed by this. I'm afraid Pastor Warren is being used.
"God is using Rick Warren to be a messenger of peace!"
"Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword." - Jesus
I agree.
At least he's getting up off his butt and trying to accomplish something. If they turn away, that's their choice. He's brought them the message.
Warren does not claim to be the Savior....you slander a faithful follower of Jesus Christ.
I was curious after reading the (post #1) excerpt above, so went looking. I found this:

I don't agree with his doctrine, but Christianity is booming in communist China. Maybe he can kick it off in North Korea.
What's the harm? Anything is better than nothing. People hate Rick Warren for the same jealous reason they hate Walmart - he is very successful.
Slander? You are out of your mind.
Yes everyone is delusional or crazy but you.
Show me the slander, O wise one! Put up or shut up!
See post #7
Again, show me the slander. He is the one touting his PEACE plan to save the world. I posted his picture. Where is the slander?

He's bigger than the sun.
Careful! reflecting will accuse you of slander! LOL!
Reflection provides objects (of type Type) that encapsulate assemblies, modules and types. You can use reflection to dynamically create an instance of a type, bind the type to an existing object, or get the type from an existing object and invoke its methods or access its fields and properties. If you are using attributes in your code, Reflection enables you to access them. For more information, see Attributes.
is he? does his plan really include world salvation? truely? documents? got the goods?
Why don't you tell us what his program is? Tell us all about the Rick Warren PEACE plan for the world.
Absolutely. Remember the number of times Billy Graham preached behind the Iron Curtain? We'll never know what role that had in eroding and undercutting communism's strength there, but a book called "Candles Behind the Wall" suggests that it was considerable.
Every last one of them.
It happens all the time around here. Whoever isn't the "accepted" minister gets slimed by other "loving" Christian "brothers." It truly is sad.
I'm not a Warren fan, but that's simply a lie, and God hates liars. You'd do well to repent. It's pure garbage: he has never, ever said anything like that nor does he believe it.
When you listen to Rick Warren talk, Jesus is mighty hard to find. People who want to follow Warren off a cliff are welcome to it. Maybe they can join him in a chorus of "Purple Haze". He is a false teacher.
lol why am I not surprised!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Well, even Jesus didn't save the whole world. Rick thinks he can with his brand spankin' new (see Ecclesiastes) methods.
Personally I think Mr Warren is ignorant of Scripture and misguided. In the Bible, both outright defiance against God, as well as ignorance, are worthy of judgement and no excuse.
On that note, 'faithful' is a word I would not use to describe Warren's following after Christ.
Woe for you when the world speaks well of you, for this was the way their forefathers treated the false prophets.Luke 6:26
Good to have you in this corner!
If you want them to hear the gospel, then in that case they should actually send a preacher of the gospel. Not the gospel of 'self fulfillment' or 'purpose.' But the true, offensive gospel. But that wouldn't curry him any favor with Kim Jong Mentally Il, so he (according to pattern set by himself) won't do it.
? lol
How is this possible? NK represses religion as there should be no "god" above their "dear leader."
That makes two of you throwing the bread and wine at Rick.
You gonna carry on with your food fight by yourselves or invite Jesus to join you?
/sarc
Rick Warren has--GASP!--gone New World Order!!!!
Bill Moyers, who was also mentioned in the article, has gone NWO in a big way. All his recent PBS programs are shilling for Georg Soros, pure and simple!!!! He even had Soros (who is his major patron) as a "guest" on his program "NOW", which Moyers left about a year ago. Moyers was once merely a traditional liberal--now he's "Third Way"/NWO. I guess it pays better.
Now Moyers is doing a "Faith Versus Reason" program--more anti-Christian propaganda. What do you expect from someone who did those Serbophobic programs about "Bosnia" in the 1990s?
So you don't have any evidence. What garbage. God is ashamed of you for your slander, and you should repent.
