Neo-Nazi and white supremacist hate groups are taking advantage of relaxed recruiting standards to infiltrate the US military to get combat training, a civil rights group reported. The Southern Poverty Law Center, which tracks domestic extremists groups, called on US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld to adopt a zero-tolerance policy toward white supremacist groups in the military. "Neo-Nazi groups and other extremists are joining the military in large numbers so they can get the best training in the world on weapons, combat tactics and explosives," said Mark Potok, director of the center's Intelligence Project. ... The report quoted a Defense Department gang investigator, Scott Barfield, as saying neo-Nazis "stretch across all branches of service, they are linking up across the branches once they're inside, and they are hard-core." "We've got Aryan Nations graffiti in Baghdad," he was quoted as saying. "That's a problem." "Recruiters are knowingly allowing neo-Nazis and white supremacists to join the armed forces, and commanders don't remove them from the military even after we positively identify them as extremists or gang members," Barfield said

I certainly hope this is not true. I'd hate to see anti-semites in the Middle East.
I wonder how many gang members enter the military to get combat training and discover within themselves a higher calling for their newfound self-worth and skills.
LOL!
Well, if the neo-nazi's et al think that they are going to be engaged in a high intensity fight against the North Koreans or involved in a counterinsurgency operation against Islamist nutjobs then they're joining the right organization. If they think that they're going to learn anything that helps them to kill or harass American people any better than the average schmoe on the street then they are in for a big disappointment. But at least they'll get the opportunity to earn some tax-free income in sunny Iraq.
ouch !
Morris must be raising funds again.
I wish the neo-Nazis would infiltrate the Southern Poverty Law Center.
Huffpo drivel. Those **bites actually posted a pick of brownshirted Nazis hoisting a US flag defaced with the swastika. No demagoguery from the diseased mind of today's leftie, no siree.
It's too evil even for them.
"called on US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld to adopt a zero-tolerance policy toward white supremacist groups in the military"
Uh, hello? Already in the regs of every branch of service.
Colonel, USAFR
The entire middle-east is brimming with Arabs yearning to push Jews into the sea, shrieking this at the top of their lungs every day, no less, and sure enough here is the SPLC, sifting through the ranks of the US Military, looking for the one corn-fed Iowa boy who's uttered a slur in his lifetime....
Couldn't be the Arabs painting nazi symbols on the walls. Everyone knows that Hitlers book is a bomb over there. Those guys really love the Jews.
More scare tactics from the usual suspects. It must be fund raising time again.
I think someone just noticed that there are some recruits from Idaho and Montana and made a leap of logic of the sort that liberal intellectuals delight in.
Glad to hear it, but I hope the regulations still allow our military to lampoon liberals and the MSM every chance they get and, of course, vote Republican!
Morris Dees needs to provide a little thing called proof. I spent twenty years in the military and Dees assertions are unmitigated lies. When are people going to call these liars on the carpet?
Well put!
I don't get it.
Even if we were to assume that this is true (which I do not) what does it have to do with things related to (1) the South; (2) Poverty; or (3) the usage of the legal system to address poverty in the south?
Is the SPLC organized as a tax-exempt organization? Are they operating within their exemption? Are they operating within their existing charter? If not, why not?
im sure those regulations against allowing extremists in the military havent changed since i was in.

Gangs claim their turf in Iraq
May 1, 2006
Chicago Sun-Times
"I have identified 320 soldiers as gang members from April 2002 to present, I believe that is the tip of the iceberg said Scott Barfield, a Defense Department gang detective at Fort Lewis in Washington state"
snip
Barfield acknowledged that the soldiers he pegged as gang members represent a tiny fraction of the tens of thousands of soldiers based at Fort Lewis in the period he reviewed.

This is an attempt to tarnish the military in the eyes of a public which holds them in high regard.
You couldn't expect a liberal to know that, Colonel. First, they'd actually have to do a little research, for which they're too lazy, and second, they believe we're all knuckle-dragging troglodytes whose idea of sensitivity is biting the heads off live kittens.
SPLC is a professional fundraising organization for Morris Dees personal wealth and pro illegal immigrant causes. btw according to SPLC just about anyone who opposes open borders, affirmative action etc is a racist.
Standards have been lowered? Not that I've heard of. The US Military allows neo-Nazis et al. in? Not a chance.
The leftscum media wants to smear our servicemen by creating a link to neo-Nazis out of thin air? Bingo, we have a winner!!!
The SPLC is a joke. My favorite rant from them was the claim that KKK miniutemen had "Turned themselves in" to the SPLC. LOL
These guys can stop a bullet the same as the next man.

The CSPC through FrontPage has likewise supported writing against Nazism and its spawn. For instance, at David Horowitzs request I wrote a pair of articles on white supremacist anti-Americanism: The Anti-American Right: An Introduction and The Fascist Left during the 1930s and 1940s, which FrontPage Magazine published last spring.
But Dees and the SPLC are impervious to such facts. The pursuit of cash supersedes Dees fidelity to reality, as left-wing journalists have noted.
Morris Dees doesn't need your financial support, writes Ken Silverstein in The Church of Morris Dees (Harpers, November 2000), observing that:
"The SPLC is already the wealthiest civil rights group in America
Back in 1978, when the Center had less than $10 million, Dees promised that his organization would quit fund-raising and live off interest as soon as its endowment hit $55 million. But as it approached that figure, the SPLC upped the bar to $100 million, a sum that, one 1989 newsletter promised, would allow the Center 'to cease the costly and often unreliable task of fund raising.' Today, the SPLCs treasury bulges with $120 million, and it spends twice as much on fund-raising-$5.76 million last year-as it does on legal services for victims of civil rights abuses. The American Institute of Philanthropy gives the Center one of the worst ratings of any group it monitors, estimating that the SPLC could operate for 4.6 years without making another tax-exempt nickel from its investments or raising another tax-deductible cent from well-meaning 'people like you.'"
JoAnn Wypijewski has remarked in The Nation (February 26, 2001):
"What is the Southern Poverty Law Center doing
? Mostly making money
In 1999 it spent $2.4 million on litigation and $5.7' million on fundraising, meanwhile taking in more than $44 million--$27 million from fundraising, the rest from investments
On the subject of 'hate groups'
No one has been more assiduous in inflating the profile of such groups than the center's millionaire huckster, Morris Dees, who in 1999 began a begging letter, 'Dear Friend, The danger presented by the Klan is greater now than at any time in the past ten years.
With
a salary close to $300,000 putting him among the top 2 percent of Americans, Dees needn't worry about 'fitting in' with the masses of Montgomery [SPLC headquarters]. Naturally, he'd erect a multimillion-dollar office building that's a monstrosity. 'I hate it,' a security guard across the street told me, as the sun's hot rays bounced off the building's vast brushed-stainless-steel-clad southern exposure and onto his face, making him sweat, roasting his skin while he stood watch for the militia nuts Dees would have his donors believe are lurking around every corner."
Keep up the great work, Mr. Dees. Dont let truth and decency get in your way.
I'll just bet that Neo Nazi's are signing up for the military so they can sleep and shower with Blcaks and Jews LOL!
The troops in ROTC camp Summer 1980, 90+% of the cadets were for Reagan; a handful supported John Anderson. ZERO were for Carter
Major shades of Bomber Joe.
Interesting. Per its web site, SPLC was established as a law firm. And it solicits donations, which it claims are tax deductible.
Sounds ripe for an audit to me.
dont think it does much "legal" work anymore. If it was advocating for the poor, it might be fighting the companies who depress americans' wages by hiring illegals
Back in 1980 I met a Carter supporter (2Lt USAF), but he was such an idiot that his politics weren't too surprising. He didn't last long in the Air Force--couldn't work and play well with others.
Hey dumb$hit...is it possible that graffiti is being put there by Iraqis?
Not only that but I'm having a hard time seeing a blame-gaming-crackah-white supremacist putting forth the 24/7 committment it takes to be in the military.
Wouldn't it be easier to just go out buy a bunch of weapons and practice blowing stuff up at a compound somewhere?
I'm surprised no one was for Ed Clark. I was 19, in the process of transitioning from youthful Liberal to adult Conservative, and Clark got my vote in 1980. Of course, I'd seen Clark speak on campus, so that probably helped. Voted for Reagan in '84, and R's going forward.
In the military I never ran into anyone remotely close to being a white supremacist
maybe they missed that whole part about Eisenhower desegregating the military.
I knew a 'skinhead' in the Army. He later became friends with Jews and blacks.
Going through shared ordeals together has a way of doing that to (most) people.
I remember a guy in basic who claimed some family affiliation with the Klan. He mentioned it a few times in that period when you're still inprocessing but before basic starts. After we left Admin Land and started training, he was shocked and mortified to have black Drill Sergeants screaming in his face. In fact, a few times he was on the verge of tears, which several of us found pretty funny. I mean, what did he expect, he was joining the friggin Army.
Hey, don't disparage corn-fed Iowa boys, now! Especially now that the corn is in season.
It can't be worse than letting lawyers into the military.
It can't be worse than letting lawyers into the military.
Neither did I. If there were any, they were smart enough to hide it, since the military condemns and does not tolerate such behavior.
"Are you or have you ever been a member of the Neo-Nazi Party?"
