[snip]
We saw striking and measurable differences in more than half of the genes' expression patterns between males and females," said Dr. Thomas Drake, a professor of pathology. "We didn't expect that. No one has previously demonstrated this genetic gender gap at such high levels."

So how much did they spend to figure this out? Parents who have raised children of the opposite sex could have told them this for free.

This does have real implications in medical practice - things like how women respond to drugs differently than men, how organs handle functions differently.
It's about time someone quantified it, so that some proper research can be done.
Men and women...different from the cellular level up.

The article never addresses the question, is it better to have evolved from male pond scum or female pond scum?

Interesting, thanks for posting.
The smallest differences were in brain tissue, they found.
And that is even more interesting. I wonder, if the differences in tissue are as great as they have found what are the repercussions for transplants? Formerly we thought that a heart was a heart but if this study holds up we might get better results if we only did male to male or female to female transplants.

Or they could have asked anyone who has ever attended Jr. Highschool and gotten the same answer.
