DeLay suggests he might not retire

SUGAR LAND, Texas - Former U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay suggested Friday that he may not be ready for retirement just yet, a day after a federal judge ruled that his name must remain on the November ballot even though he resigned from Congress.
DeLay, who came home to Sugar Land for a previously scheduled event, also criticized U.S. District Judge Sam Sparks' ruling that the former House majority leader's name had to remain on the ballot.
"For this guy to say he can't tell where I'm going to be on Election Day, and that I am forced to be on the ballot, well, they may get exactly what they want," DeLay told supporters to raucous applause. Sparks is a Democrat appointed by Republican former President George Bush.
Later, reporters asked Delay if he now planned to run. He didn't say no.
"We have to wait and see what the 5th Circuit does on appeal," he said.
The Texas Republican Party appealed to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans immediately after Sparks' ruling Thursday in Austin. Attorney Jim Bopp said he hoped to have a decision from the higher court this month, allowing the GOP to nominate a new candidate.
DeLay, who is awaiting trial on Texas charges of money laundering and conspiracy in a campaign finance case, won the Republican primary in March but resigned from Congress on June 9 and said he has moved to Virginia.
He still owns and his wife, Christine, still lives in his Sugar Land house, where DeLay also spends time, the Democrats pointed out.
Democrats want to keep his name and his legal troubles on the minds of voters as Democrat Nick Lampson tries to capture DeLay's 22nd congressional district seat in suburban Houston. The party sued to keep the GOP from removing DeLay's name from the ballot.
Republicans want to name a replacement nominee, and several prominent Houston area politicians are vying for the spot.
The U.S. Constitution states a member of Congress on Election Day must be an inhabitant of the state where his district is located. Sparks said he was not convinced that DeLay would not return to Texas.

Bump!
Beat me to it.
L
I really think DeLay could win his election race. The Democrats have overplayed their hand.
This would be great...get him back into position to return a few favors.
FYI BUMP!
SORRY................ : )
LMAO. I'll bet there is one Congressman that just saw his life pass in front of his eyes.
He MUST do this. I mean, it's just too good. What does he risk--losing? He's already out of Congress, so all he'd have to endure was some Dems cackling on election night.
On the other hand, if he wins, the Dems will have a collective seizure, and DeLay will have done us all some good.
WOW!
WOW!
WOW!
LOL!
I agree 1000% with your assessment. Low down side risk. Great upside potential.
Return the favor Tom, blow them out of the water.
Things sure ain't going too well for Toothless Tom.
LOL! My reaction too!
Oh hell NO!! Mr. "no more pork to be cut out of the Federal budget" and possible convicted felon needs to leave Congress- yesterday! Sheesh, poor baby must miss being a powerful Congressman. Must suck to be a regular schlub like the rest of us.
This makes me feel warm inside.... ;)
How can we all E mail him and encourage him to run?
ROFL!!! .. Priceless
Probably get flame for it but he is to slimey for me. He needs to stand up and be counted from day one.
I'm not sure, but he may need funds in the very near future...
Does this mean if he's on the ballot and gets elected, he might actually stay?
And probably have an attitude for those who stabbed him in the back.
Oh, man, this is gonna get good.
Ping
The only thing that could make it better is Governor Jeb Bush announcing a run for the White House. Imagine the sound of all the non-duct taped heads exploding.
Not to mention the psychological damage--even if he loses, his mere presence will drive the dems nuts worrying if he's going to win. And his persistence will be a great psychological boost to those who want to see runaway prosecutions end.
Does this mean that Nick Lampson will move back to Beaumont (TX-2),from his momma's house.
When I heard the decision i immediately said to myself - "Well I guess he mine as well run."
And to those who think he is too slimey or damaged goods - What is so slimey about him being in the dems faces and what could dems do to damge him anymore than they already have (tried)?
Smooth but not slimy. The only Slime involved is DA Ronnie Earle. Most all of the constituents in DeLays district never believed anything Earle had against him. Some of the charges have already been dropped.
Hope you don't consider this a flame. It's not intended to be. You just don't know what you're talking about.
This could be fun.
Go for it Tom!!!!
How much do you want to bet that the minute he wins his Democratic opponent sues on the grounds that he is ineligible due to not being a resident?
(The Palestinian terrorist regime is the crisis and Israel's fist is the answer.)
Delay noting in this article that if the 5th Circuit doesn't get its act together, he can go to Plan B: Re-establish residency, run, win, immediately resign, convert his war chest to defense funds, and force a special election that the DUms cannot win -- either in theory (Lampson, having just lost to Delay, will have the stench of big-L "Loser") or just in sheer dollars to fund a new candidate.
I hope it does.
How many Republican judges did 'rat presidents appoint? This crap has gotta stop. When will they ever learn?
Right wrong or indifferent, Delay could come back and be elected Speaker of the House in the next term.
I hope Tom DeLay wins this election and gives every RAT a real B!+c#slap. This could become very interesting, to say the least.
Exactly where do you get your holy water to bathe in?
It takes real balls to make a statement like the above with a Massachusetts flag flying in your profile or you're just a f#cking IDIOT - probably the latter!
I have a feeling that when DeLay wins, the majority of Republicans will defend him in Congress. I'd really like to see him "un-retire" as another thread indicated and take back his House seat before the elections.
There will also be one very sad DA here in Austin. Old ronnie earle will be foaming at the mouth. The libs here are already upset at the thought of having DeLay on the ballot, something they brought upon themselves.
DeLay wasn't going to run because he feared that the corrution charge had legs, and that Delay was going to be the poster boy of these charges - BUT NOW!! The party of corruption has been successfully transfered to where it belongs (the 'RATS). Delay should run. He no longer has the same worries about being a drag on the GOP and he would win....big time.
Run Forest, Run!
LOL!!!
Oh, how I would LOVE to see Tom Delay back in Congress again! Liberal heads would be exploding!
