Publisher: Ann Coulter No Plagiarist
The latest media attack on Ann Coulter seems to be a desperate measure to undermine the credibility of one of Americas most prominent conservative voices.
Soon after her book "Godless: The Church of Liberalism was released in June, Coulter made waves Hillary accused her of being "heartless and "vicious -- for questioning the motives of four 9/11 widows.
With Coulters book topping the New York Times bestseller list, new allegations are surfacing that Coulter plagiarized material for her book and syndicated news columns.
But the publisher of Coulters book, Random Houses Crown imprint, has reviewed the plagiarism allegations and has found them to be baseless.
"We have reviewed the allegations of plagiarism surrounding Godless and found them to be as trivial and meritless as they are irresponsible," said Steve Ross, Senior Vice President and Publisher of Crown Publishing Group.
Ross continued: "Any author is entitled to do what Ann Coulter has done in the three snippets cited: research and report facts. The number of words used by our author in these snippets is so minimal that there is no requirement for attribution. As an experienced author and attorney, Ms. Coulter knows when attribution is appropriate, as underscored by the nineteen pages of hundreds of endnotes contained in Godless.
In the weeks after "Godless came out, leftwing blogs began making claims that Coulter had engaged in plagiarism.
Apparently prompted by these reports, the New York Post asked a California firm to review Coulters writings with its iThenticate software, a program the checks databases to uncover plagiarism.
The syndicator of Coulters newspaper column, Universal Press Syndicate, is also investigating claims of plagiarism and should have a report out this coming week. Universal Press Syndicate has been under pressure for some time from liberal journalists and publications like Editor & Publisher to drop Coutlers column.

Notice how the liberals never seemed to mention the exact quotes in the original news story?
This vindicates Ann. Unfortunately, as with so many other things the MSM does, the word has already been out that it was plagiarism, so that is what people will remember.

The NY Post references the similarities
here, but doesn't show the specific comparisons:
(John) Barrie, CEO of iParadigms, told The Post that one 25-word passage from the "Godless" chapter titled "The Holiest Sacrament: Abortion" appears to have been lifted nearly word for word from Planned Parenthood literature published at least 18 months before Coulter's 281-page book was released. A separate, 24-word string from the chapter "The Creation Myth" appeared about a year earlier in the San Francisco Chronicle with just one word change - "stacked" was changed to "piled."
Another 33-word passage that appears five pages into "Godless" allegedly comes from a 1999 article in the Portland (Maine) Press Herald.
Accuser Barrie also makes more nebulous, value-laden complaints about Coulter's citations being "very misleading" and sloppy.

SNIFF! SNIFF! SNIFF! Is that the smell of a Slander Suit in the air about to be filed by Anne et. al. against the leftist/liberal/media goon meatheads that made the salacious and false claim of plagiarism against her not in the courts but in the media.

Having not read the book, I can only speculate, but there's something quite obvious here. I believe we can make the assumption that Ann would not be in agreement with PP's literature; the reason for her to "lift" a passage would be to illustrate their position, not hers, and would therefore be fair game. If I typed a sentence (or paragraph, for that matter) explicitly describing the planks in the DNC platform, would I be plagiarizing them?

The msm lies and makes false accusations daily in their never ending attempt to invalidate their enemies.
This from Ann Coulter's 'Godless- The Church of Liberalism' Crown Forum,New York.
"Meanwhile, Newsweek ran an article about the looming danger of evangelicals learning to debate, noting that Jerry Falwell's Liberty University had the number one debate club in the country. The reporter quoted Falwell saying," We are training debaters who can perform assault ministry".
These evangelicals are scary! Newsweek later ran an correction stating; "Newsweek misquoted Falwell as referring to 'assault ministry.'
In fact, Falwell was referring to ' a salt ministry'--a reference to Mathew 5:13, where Jesus says, 'Ye are the salt of the earth'. We regret the error"

Future NY POST article on this huckster Barrie ....
NY POST
by Ima Dope July 22, 2006 - John M. Barrie, Ph.D. President/CEO of iParadigms, LLC and the developer of the iThenticate™ program announced today that every composer, song writer, lyricist in the history of music is a plagiarizer.
Barrie made this astounding discovery after running some random sheet music by Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, the Beatles, Willie Nelson, Eric Clapton and even John 'Cougar' Melloncamp through his iThenticate™ program.
"I was shocked,.totally astounded by the blatant plagiarism that has occurred in music" Barrie said. "Every one of them used the notes A, B, C, D, E, F, and G!" Barrie gasped.
Barrie said he became suspicious after noticing a similarity between 'Beethoven's Fifth Symphony' and 'I Shot The Sheriff'. "I was pretty sure I heard the note 'C' in each and thought it merited further investigation" Barrie added.

If I typed a sentence (or paragraph, for that matter) explicitly describing the planks in the DNC platform, would I be plagiarizing them? It would probably be better to footnote it because if it made the Dems look bad, they would claim that you just made it up and the press would happily report that you "lied".
It looked like a sentence that Ann probably should have quoted this exactly and footnoted, but Ann had so many thing footnoted that I could see how one minor line could slip through.

luckydawgnews.com:
A ran across this article at the NY Post claiming that Ann Coulter plagiarized parts of her latest book - "Godless".
Conservative scribe Ann Coulter cribbed liberally in her latest book, "Godless," according to a plagiarism expert.
John Barrie, the creator of a leading plagiarism-recognition system, claimed he found at least three instances of what he calls "textbook plagiarism" in the leggy blond pundit's "Godless: the Church of Liberalism" after he ran the book's text through the company's digital iThenticate program.
This Barrie guy is the president/CEO of a company called iParadigms. This iThenticate program is a product of this company. The chairman of iParadigms is Steven Berger.

Every book that Ann Coulter has written brings out the left wing moonbats and cries of plagiarism. This time is no different, with one exception. These 2 particular moonbats, Berger and Barrie, are killing 2 birds with one stone. They can trash Coulter on behalf of their DNC masters and get free PR to sell their dubious product.
This non-story is also an example of how lazy the media is. Nowhere in the press is it mentioned that the people at iParadigms are left wing, MOVEON types with an axe to grind. It took me a whopping 10 minutes to find out this info.
Coulter must have really hit a nerve with the liberals. They are pulling out all the stops to destroy her credibility, although this latest attempt to smear Coulter borders on lame.

Everything in her books is documented. And mere similarity of usage is not similarity of unattributed borrowing. The fact I say things in a certain sense means they might be mistaken on the surface for echoing someone else's views but the substance of my thoughts are and will remain uniquely my own. You have to look past how it is expressed to what is said. And the critics still haven't dealt with the findings Ann posted in
Godless because they don't know how to respond to them. So instead of doing that, they try to discredit her by dragging in irrelevant accusations of plagiarism. Its just more evidence liberals can't win in the arena of ideas.

Its interesting they won't run the full quotes from the source and Ann's passages side by side. If their proof she was a plagiarist was that strong, they would have done it already. Instead, the rely on innuendo and implicit comparisons to do the job for them. Now that's what I call "bait and switch." Anything to get attention away from her book so they don't have to deal with what's in it. Liberals are not that great with Lexis Nexis apart from using it to further the politics of personal destruction. Now they're content to sit back and let the vicious whispering campaign do their dirty work for them.

She could reserve a chapter on this for the paper back edition of
Godless next year. Show how liberals have constantly plagiarized and had what they wrote accepted as gospel truth when they were found out. I'm thinking of Jayson Blair and Diana Griego Erwin here. Both of whom reported stories their editors couldn't verify and who gained fame for a career of fictional journalism. None of which by the way was footnoted and endnoted. The Drive By Media hasn't even fessed up to its own ethical shortcomings and the only thing they can find wrong with Ann is they know she's right! Case closed.
