A man who was part of a group attempting to break into a house is dead this morning after the homeowner took matters into his own hands.
The homeowner told police that around 3 a.m. he saw three men trying to kick in the front door of his house in the 2500 block of Summit Creek.
He said he got his gun and fired about eight rounds.
One of the men was hit several times. He ran off and collapsed in the 1100 block of Summit Crest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other two men escaped.
Police say the homeowner will not be charged.

No details on the weapon, folks, sorry. It would appear the gun was a semi-auto, though, unless he reloaded. Not too many revolvers I know of that are eight-shot, unless you get into those bigger hunting calibers.

How did he miss the others?

The eight-shooters I'm familiar with are .357 magnums. There are nine-shot .22s available as well.
Some larger caliber revolvers have only 5 chambers, as they are so large that there isn't enough "meat" on the cylinder to safely bore 6. See the Freedom Arms .454 as an example.

1 down, other 2 uninjured?
Good work on the home defense, and might I suggest a trip to the range to improve efficency for future break ins.

As with all .357's, they can also hold .38's, right?

Maybe he shouldn't have used hollow points so he could shoot through the first one and get one of the punks hiding behind him.

I would say that it was likely only one person was trying to kick in the door. Others were likely look outs or standing off to the side.

My only handgun is a cap gun. So don't complain. (Darn state statutes.) It's a pretty accurate cap gun, though.

Shouldn't he have waited until they were all inside and double tapped each of them?
It would have saved the county a lot of time and money.
Actually,...what are the laws on how many you can legally shoot dead if they are in your house?
If he had killed all 3 of them, would he be in the deep doo doo?

Powerful deterrent that the anti-gunners enjoy because of all of us knuckle draggin' gun owners.

Nice , nice . Very nice. This is the kind of good news I like to begin my day with.
A month ago someone tried to break into my home. Heard a loud noise, went downstairs, there was nobody. But found a living room window forced open from the outside. Later that same night my car was broken into, window smashed as I discovered next morning.

Maybe he was shooting through the door they were trying to kick in. Unfortunately he only hit one of them (or maybe just wounded the other two). Lost velocity from shooting through the door? and/or not enough caliber.
To: DaveLoneRanger
Only 1 out of 3?
I don't know...
Good for the homeowner though. I'm guessing these guys won't be back.

" I'm guessing these guys won't be back." Maybe they will. They have nothing to loose, and might want "revenge" for their retarded brother. I'd load up some "special" melon blasters and keep my gun handy for a while if I were him.

Had one once.I fired it through two 55 gallon drums back to back, loaded with garbage. It penetrated both drums, coming out the other side of the second one, leaving a very large exit hole theat was spread apart,in a splayed pattern.Had a nasty bruise on my arm from the stock of the gun!

Yes. Wouldn't recommend .357 in something only rated for .38 though....Higher pressure could go boom in your hand.
Use .38 for practice in the .357...
