After reading the online edition of our local paper last week, I called the editor, out of respect for a slain service member (not because I have any loyalty to the liberal rag.) But this was the caption under a picture.

"(Widow's name) looks on as her husband is buried, along with his parents and family members."

I did a double take (thinking how did they all die, what a tragedy), then realized the photo was of the serviceman's widow, with military escorts, and the entourage included his parents and family members. I couldn't believe my eyes...where the heck are the editors.

Anyhoo, they changed the online edition of the paper immediately, but then I found out it had been printed that way in the regular newspaper as well.

Due respect, the gem of the piece is:

The terrorists know that another 9/11-style attack will only serve to strengthen Americans' resolve to beat back the radical Muslim hordes.

More than anything that's what is keeping OBL from mounting another major attack. He and others know what will wake this sleeping giant.

As for C-SPAN-like-anything. The genius of Brian Lamb and C-SPAN is that guvment is NOT involved in it.

Check this out under the heading "Blonde Uprising."

Male Nurses, Awa and Menopause Hormonal Therapy - That's What Senators Discussed Friday on the Floor

While Hawaii's Infrastructure Crumbles, And Its People Struggle With Some of the Worst Societal and Economic Problems in the Nation, the Senate Focuses on Telling Men to Become Nurses, Drugging Women with Menopausal Issues, and Designating Awa as the State's Official Drink

According to one NYPD intelligence officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the terrorists believe if they can hurt the American economy that more people -- with the help of many Democrats and some Republicans in collusion with the mainstream news media -- will turn against the Commander-in-Chief and his plan of taking the fight to the enemy.

I find this hard to believe.

Actually, their focus has not changed. Their focus has ALWAYS BEEN to inflict the most damage possible on the US Economy - hence the WTC targeting (twice), as the WTC represents The US Economy.

If you read all that Al-Q has published as "Doctrine", it's pretty obvious.

I suspect that the point of the article should be more that we now realize what the Real Al-Q target is as opposed to the target changing.

A) That an NYPD officer would leak to a paper in Hawaii
B) The analysis doesn't fit with any of their previously stated goals. These guys pretty much hate all Americans, regardless of political party.
C)The way the analysis conveniently plays into internal partisan politics.

So I guess these guys weren't going to attack the tunnels, and should be let free? I mean, they'd be foolish to make such an attack...and yet, that's exactly what they're being accused of.

Doesn't it make more sense that UBL and company would WANT us to let our guard down, thinking "OH, they'd NEVER do that!"?

Kinda like the thinking about Saddam allying himself with terrorists?

UBL's goal is to show the Islamofacsists that even at heightened alert we CAN be hit, and the US will feel this is all in response to our efforts in the WOT.

If the logic you point to made sense, why were these guys arrested? He and others know what will wake this sleeping giant.

Because we were all in 100% unity after 9-11...for about a month.

By that logic, the smartest thing UBL could do would be nothing? How will THAT further his goals?

As for C-SPAN-like-anything. The genius of Brian Lamb and C-SPAN is that guvment is NOT involved in it.

That's kinda, sorta why I wrote "C-SPAN-LIKE" and not "another C-SPAN".

before the terrorists could not enter the United States and implement their diabolical suicide-bombing plan.

I can't help but wonder just how much trouble their operatives would have entering the country--even today. Not even talking about going through Mexico. Based on what I see in my area, I still think we're letting lots of Muslim immigrants in.

"UBL's goal is to show the Islamofacsists that even at heightened alert we CAN be hit, and the US will feel this is all in response to our efforts in the WOT. "

That certainly is the opposing view of what I believe OBL is doing, and no one knows for sure. The "sleeping giant" aspect and the possibility of a few nukes being popped on the radical world and his ass, must certainly enter into his calculations. I just think there are probably enough sleeper cells in the US to have pulled off any number of 9-11s. BTW, Beslan still concerns me the most.

This is something that I've given quite a bit of thought to over the last year or so. I don't believe that there's going to be any sort of major attack here in the US until after the 2008 election. Because if there is, it could well galvanize the US population and elect another "Hawk" to the presidency.

There's no doubt that, like the North Vietnamese, the terrorists see their greatest chance for winning is by using the dems and media as their #1 weapon.

So what were these guys doing?

The "sleeping giant" aspect and the possibility of a few nukes being popped on the radical world and his ass, must certainly enter into his calculations.

You've said that already--where's the evidence? Ther "sleeping giant" thing happened on 9-11, and look where we are now. Are you seriously trying to say that UBL has no designs on America because we're all so solid that more attacks will only make us MORE unified? On what do you base this?

If you were UBL, which would achieve your goals: Hitting the US AGAIN, post-9-11, post-WOT, post-heightened security...or doign nothing?

I just think there are probably enough sleeper cells in the US to have pulled off any number of 9-11s.

On what do you base this? There have been numerous cells interrupted--are you saying there are others who are here to do...nothing? Why would they BE here if they weren't here to do something?

BTW, Beslan still concerns me the most.

OK, but that's got nothing to do with this thread.

Why? That's the only reason we lost the Viet Nam war. Don't you think that the terrorist leadership of AQ know this? Seriously, many of the leaders ARE educated men... Heck Al Zawahiri is a pediatrician, an MD!

We could do a lot for the enviro wackos and curb CO2 emissions if we would kill several hundred million arabs, it seems.

Actually, the plans were in the very early stages. I don't think that there's going to be another major attack in the US until after the 2008 elections. They're hoping that people will get tired of the war and elect a dem president. If there's an attack before the elections, you can bet that hawks will take over not just President Bush's position, but in congress as well. And the last thing that AQ wants is to lose their friends in congress!

Ah, now I see where the logic comes from. Thanks.

But I don't see a parallel between Vietnam and what we're faced with now.

If I had all the answers do you think I'd be here posting to you? I've stated what I believe is going on in their collective mind. You appear to believe that the efforts of our government are the 'end all' in keeping us safe.

People have different opinions about these thing. You may have all the answers. I don't and don't know anyone who does. Chill out, you're a bit shrill.

Don't you mean "the protectors of our civil liberties"? ;)

In every case, I ask the question "Is Al Qaeda happy with this article/legislation/comment from the DNC or ACLU?"
