If Mitt Romney would have had the courage he would have stood up to Matt Amarillo director of the MTA. Mitt Romney should have called for an inspection into the Big Dig and all contracts and practices of the board when he first took office 4 years ago. He did not. Last night part of the connector tunnel collapsed and killed a 38 year old woman. Lack of leadership in Mass from Mitt Romney a dangerous example to set for someone running for the White House.

That's just ridiculous. The Big Dig was a problem years before Romney.
And look at New Orleans and Louisianna -- they misspent funds for the levees and hundreds were killed as a result, but it hasn't seemed to hurt the politicians involved there.

..hmmmm...maybe so, don't know enough about the local politics but it seemed he didn't even show up for the dedication and that Teddy et al were the ones touting this GREAT GREAT project....this radio guy is doing what we rail about on FR all the time.....blaming someone else...the responsibility lands squarely on the contractors etc.... they are to blame first and foremost....in this billion dollar debacle......good lord....not even dedicated for 6 months and already falling apart.....what a disaster
To: Peach
Big difference - Mitt's a Republican...
To: Peach
I'm sure somehow, someone is going to blame this on President Bush...

You joined FR on 7/8/06 and I see you've only posted negative stuff about Romney.
So who do you work for? Which one of his opponents?

new poster or just a new name? Romney should have solved the problem 4 years ago he did not--woman died--right or wrong?
To: NHThompson
What about the other 3 governors before him? The big dig has been going on for at least that long. Or how about the fact that this is U boat commander Ted's baby and he's been there all along?

....well under that logic....(correlation does not prove causation guy)...then you must blame Pres Bush for all the deaths in Iraq....soldiers and civilians alike....after all, he didn't fix the problem and people died....haha, your logic is so flawed...it is an emotional rant
To: Bikers4Bush
Yes Mitt is a Mormon--that fact brings out the best on Free Republic.

Mitt Romney should have called for an inspection into the Big Dig and all contracts and practices of the board when he first took office 4 years ago. So, this tragedy is Mitt's fault in the same way that 9/11 is Bush's fault? ...for not somehow stopping an unforseen tragedy actually committed by someone else, and because of problems he inherited?
You're nuts.

I just hope the poor woman killed wasn't Republican -- it'll deplete our numbers in Boston by 17%.
To: NHThompson
I don't think Romney's going anywhere anyway. But this didn't help. It makes my state of MA look like more of a mess than previously (all of it true). The collapse was in the Tip O'Neill tunnel, appropriately named for the person who pushed this graft filled project through the House to override Reagan's veto (Reagan right again!).

It was just a matter of time before the graft in the Big Dig caught up to someone innocent. Now a woman is dead so that the contractors and their whores, the politicians, could make another couple of billion in taxpayer money.
More of this will happen, rest assured. And nobody will be called to account for it.
It's Massachusetts.

"Fat Matt" Amorello's fault.
"If he can't stand up to a corrupt midget, how's he gonna stand up to the Russians?"--referring to Mike Dukakis and

If Romney can't stand up to Matt Amorello and fire him...
(long story--legally I'm not sure he can...) Be sure to check out Howie Carr at howiecarr.com (and on his various affiliates) today at 3 pm.

Get any crowd large enough and you'll find some anti-religious nutbags. Don't take is personally, its usually just a sign of lack of education about religion. Any religion.

Considering you can't swing a dead cat anywhere in Mass. without hitting either an Irish or Italian Roman Catholic I consider it quite a feat for a Mormon to get elected.
I've heard that before but haven't seen any of it first hand.
Personally I have no problem at all with Mormons, as long as they aren't murdering innocent people in the name of god they're good with me.

So, it appears the political corruption in Massachusetts is not only evil, criminal, wasteful but now also deadly. I'm sure glad Ol' Teddy got the full $14B it took to make this thing safe and sound. Just another woman who gave her life for Ted Kennedy's personal advancement (and another one involving cars and water). How many more women need to die before Ted Kennedy secures his 'legacy'?

$15 billion.
Mass. roads are a joke. Try driving back from the Cape and there's a quick thunderstorm. Roads flood and what is normally 1 hr 45 minutes to go 90 miles (Cape to Beverly) can be
3 hrs and 45 minutes. It was for me a couple weeks back.
In other words, it would take as long for me to get from
the Cape to Beverly (90 miles) as it would to get from
Beverly to Burlington, VT (220 miles)
