Public Display Of Affection Was Inappropriate

Public display of affection was inappropriate Thursday, July 13, 2006

My family enjoyed our first visit to your clean and beautiful city on June 24 and 25, as we arrived to deliver our daughter to a summer camp. After a much longer than anticipated drive, we arrived at our destination at 10:30 p.m., unloading our bags at the only possible spot at the hotel: curbside at the Courtyard Marriott on Spring Street.

My three children were treated to an eyeful of amorous behavior by the lesbians seated on a public bench, not 10 feet away from us and directly in front of the doors to the hotel.

How could I have known in advance that our hotel was in the midst of Gay Pride Weekend or that there would be such public sexual demonstrations?

I have thought about our being in the midst of Pride Weekend and have gleaned the following: Regardless of sexual orientation, out of basic respect for humanity, amorous behavior does not belong on a public bench. Respect is the foundation for our society, for civil conduct and for courtesy.

Rodney Dangerfield might have said his famous line to that couple, "Get a room!"

I did not plan to take my kids into the environment of a gay bar, so please have enough respect for others around you not to bring that atmosphere into the public realm.

I know that gay people want approval and respect, in addition to tolerance for their lifestyles. But respect needs to run both ways. Without common courtesy and the decency to reserve amorous behavior for a private setting, the gay-pride movement would appear to be less about seeking acceptance and more about provoking friction in society.

This experience, along with our visit this year to Disney World (also during Pride Day) did not endear the movement to me. Quite the contrary. My conclusion has been that the gay objective has been to be "in your face," and with respect to pride gatherings in the public realm, that respect is a one-way street.

If what the gay community truly desires is acceptance, I humbly suggest to gay and lesbian readers that next time there is a pride assembly, they consider reserving their intimate behavior for behind closed doors, as is also expected of well-mannered heterosexuals.

My guess is that they weren't exactly Madonna and Britney Spears, if you get my drift.

There are many mentally ill people out there, but there is a way out for them.

Here in the big city you don't have to wait for pride week to see that stuff. I find more bothersome, religious cult groups at my door with their conversion craper-ola

well if you think about it, they drove right over or under 256 AND Brice road, along with that huge HOliday Inn in Whitehall....

And that's not counting the Embassy Suites and all that stuff up by Cleveland Ave.

"So, they ended up 'accidentally' at TWO gay pride events?"

Sounds kinda funny, actually.

I don't doubt it. I googled Gay Pride -- they have events coordinators in every state and activities in several months. January has Utah Gay and Lesbian Ski Week! Colorado has Octobearfest.

It's really not too tough. Straight or gay, if you're feeling amorous in public, exercise self-control or get a room!

This smells like B.S., if Marie lives in Silver Spring, seeing lesbians make out should be nothing new to her, after all Silver Spring is just north of Takoma Park, where there is a large community of (incredibly liberal) Homosexuals. This letter smells like a fake, or a really pathetic attempt to make conservatives look bad.

Cheers,
CSG

>Ugh! Disgusting!<

Too bad the LeDucs didn't stage a huge family puke all over the lesbo lovers.

I live in the Central Valley of California. A few years ago, Mrs. Othniel and I took our two boys (then 4 and 6) to San Diego. We found a hotel that was fairly centrally located, but not too pricey. Anyway, when we were moving our stuff up to our room, the guy downstairs came out with his hair all pulled back and started putting on makeup. Lotsa makeup.

Turned out it was a Diva-fest, or some such thing, that weekend in San Diego. The place a quite a few "flamers," as well as women who looked like they were from the male division of the pro-wrestling circuit. Questions from the boys ensued: "Why is that man putting on makeup?" My wife and I explained that they were dressing up for a play, or something like that, and they were satisfied. Now, my 10.5 year old brought it up during a discussion of "What does gay mean?", and my wife and I were able to explain to him about how some men don't like women. His response was one of disgust, for which I'm very thankful and proud.

Thankfully, no. I live in Columbus. These two broads probably looked like Roseanne and Janet Reno.
