Just read on MSN.com that actor/comic Red Button has died at age 87.

Had an Uncle that used to "rent" Red for parties. He made his living for a while as a house party guest. Worked cheaply as I remember only a couple of hundred bucks in the 70's.

I'm glad I saw Buttons on Broadway about 10 years ago. He was a funny, funny guy. And you should have held him tell his "blue" joke, the one that sent them all running from the vaudeville theater straight into the paddy wagon outside -- and you had to run there because you wanted to make sure you had a seat in the wagon for the trip Downtown. After the long (and funny) story of all the problems cause by the blue humor, he told the joke. One of the most innocuous things you could imagine. But risque 50 or 60 years ago.

I wonder if he ever had a dinner? I don't know. Why don't you ask Ben Hur or his sister Ben Him, who once tried to switch but then they'd be Ben Gay, if he ever had a dinner.

Red Buttons made a dozen movies in the 1970's, and appeared in scores of TV shows, like Johnny Carson, Merv Griffin, Jackie Gleason, Disneyland, and many, many more, all in the '70's.
He was also an Academy Awards presenter sometime in the '70's.
Methinks you're thinking the wrong "Red". :)

Loved Buttons....your spelling is wrong. He played in a number of John Wayne films. I'll never forget some of his roles. He wasn't a heavy weight or well known actor, but did a good job in his roles. Did a lot of TV spots. Probably more than movies.
