S. Rep. Katherine Harris was "resting comfortably" at her home Monday after surgery to remove an ovarian mass, her office said.
Harris, a Florida Republican who is running for the U.S. Senate, underwent the procedure at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, her office said. Spokesman Gerry Fritz declined to answer questions about the surgery, citing Harris' wish for privacy.
An earlier statement from her office said the mass was to be biopsied and removed in a minimally invasive laparoscopic surgical procedure.
Harris' Senate campaign has been plagued by problems, and she trails Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson by more than 30 points in most polls.
Fundraising has been slow, GOP leaders tried to find another candidate, and she has received more attention for her association with a corrupt defense contractor who gave her $32,000 in illegal campaign contributions than she has on the issues.
On Friday, her office disclosed that she gave her campaign more than $3 million to run for Senate, but then took back $100,000 to finish renovating her "historic home" in Washington, D.C.
Harris had announced on national television that she would spend $10 million of her own money on the race, but a press release Friday referred to the money as a loan.
Also last week, she lost much of her core campaign staff for the second time since getting in the race last summer. Her campaign manager, Glenn Hodas, resigned after three months on the job, saying Harris was uncontrollable. He was the third person to hold the position.
I sure hope the biopsy is good news. She is having a very bad time and could use some good news for once.
My prayers for a speedy recovery for a valiant lady.
I do too. Prayers for our Katherine.
I have ever admired Katherine Harris and wish her well. I also think it is now an excell time to cast off the Sneate race.
Despicable. Go Kate Go.
My wife just had that. If it was truly "minimally invasive" then she'll be on her feet in a few days, and campaigning in a week.
We pray for complete healing for Katherine and all Your finest blessings upon her. Help her to fill every purpose You have for her life. In the Name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
I just sent her a online Get Well wish through her campaign site.

Prayer bump Julie!
I just got this email about Katherine Harris. (Apologies for any double pings....I'm using several ping lists)
Hi Julie:
I've attended a "Candidates Breakfast" today. This "breakfast" featured candidates for various offices...You would have enjoyed it...
Several of us asked the host about Katherine Harris' status. To our surprise, the host said that Katherine will tell us herself how she's doing in person.
Katherine popped in, shook hands with everyone, & then told us that "with the help of a good doctor & a good God, I'm doing fine -- thank you for all your cards and prayers..." She then told us that the next day, after the surgery, she voted, and her life went back to normal...That was great news!
Then, Katherine spoke for quite some time telling us the difference between herself and Nelson, and how inaccurate the H-T (Sarasota Herald-Tribune) is.
Her presentation was TOPS!
Prayer BUMP
Oh thank goodness. This is very good news. :0)

Harris campaigns in TCoast days after surgery

STUART U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris showed up in Martin County today asking supporters for their help in her bid for the U.S. Senate.
"There's so much at stake right now, I can't stop," Harris told the several dozen who attended a reception for the congresswoman at the Knights of Columbus.
Harris' visit to the Treasure Coast comes just five days after she had surgery to remove an ovarian mass. It is the third time the Republican from Longboat Key has visited the area in her campaign to win the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate seat. The winner will challenge incumbent U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Melbourne, in the November election.
The three other GOP candidates in the Sept. 5 primary are Will McBride, an Orange County attorney; Peter Monroe, a Pinellas County developer; and Adm. LeRoy Collins Jr., a retired naval officer.
Before beginning her speech, she shook hands with every person in the room thanking them for being there.
Then she asked Martin County's Republican leaders to ignore the polls, which most show her trailing Nelson by more than 30 points.
She spoke to the crowd for more than half an hour.
Regarding the war in the Middle East, she said she supported Israel's fight against Hezbollah.
On the topic of the nation's domestic immigration policy, she said she supports strict guidelines, but said sending all illegal immigrants back to their native countries and asking them to reapply to reenter the United States was unrealistic.
Harris thanked them for their concern over her health and reminded them that she returned to the House floor a day after surgery and voted in favor of a proposed constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.
The vote fell short of the two-thirds majority it would have needed to pass to the Senate.
