DETROIT (AP) The city clerk plans to purge the names of nearly 55,000 dead people and those who no longer live in the city from voting rolls as part of an effort to ensure integrity in elections.
Clerk Janice Winfrey bought lists of deaths from the state and city health department. Then she moved to eliminate the names of people who hadn't cast a ballot since before the 2002 election and who had been mailed voter card registration renewal forms that were returned as undeliverable.
Already the names of about 33,000 deceased voters have been removed, The Detroit News reported Tuesday. The rest can be removed after the August primary. Winfrey estimates another 40,000 names can be removed under a similar process in 2008.
Winfrey was elected in November. She unseated Jackie L. Currie, who had held the post since 1994 and was embroiled in a federal probe of her handling of absentee ballots.
Last year, the city had 637,000 registered voters, a figure critics say had to be wrong since according to census figures, Detroit only had 630,000 people 18 or older who were eligible to vote.
In February, the newspaper published a review of ballots cast in the November election that showed many were cast under the names of people who have died, were serving time in prison or did not live in the city.
Orleans Parish, La. just got 55,000 new Democrat voters.
Will there be a proper Paul-Wellstone-like funeral for all these poor dead people, who no longer will be able to vote?
She had to buy the lists?
Oh crap, look out, the DNC will be pissed!
And by a remarkable coincidence, all 55,000 are Republicans.
Dean & the DNC will not be happy
I wonder how many "dead" voters voted absentee?
I used to have a tag line which read "Dead People Vote DemocRAT"
How many of these people voted recently?
They cannot do that. The Democrats will lose voters.
Alternate headline: "RATS Lose 55,000 Votes, Will Steal Them Elsewhere"
It's about time that this situation has begun to be addressed. With the amount of technology available today, to have our votes diluted down by massive voter fraud is inexcusable.
How many of these people voted recently?
Clerk Janice Winfrey had better find herself a bodyguard.
Can't be undoin' the corruption in this town, dear lady!
LOL...do you think Nagin bought a copy of that list so he could add to the NO voter rolls?
This from a search for her name:
Michigan: absentee ballot campaign questioned in Detroit
AP reports: Allegations of racism, biased judges and improprieties that include dead people on the voter roll have surfaced in the weeks before Tuesday's hotly contested city election.
On the eve of the vote, the focus was on City Clerk Jackie Currie and her "Project Vote" program, which sends ambassadors to help the elderly and disabled fill out absentee ballots.
Last week, a judge ordered state and Wayne County election officials to oversee absentee voting after ruling that Currie has been breaking state law in how she handles absentee ballots and supervises the ambassadors.
In late October, The Detroit News reported that Currie's handling of absentee ballots was questionable. The newspaper found that people cast ballots even though their addresses were abandoned nursing homes or in one case, a vacant lot. -- mlive.com: NewsFlash - Allegations of election fraud, racism surface in days before Detroit election

She sounds like she's doing a great job.
Winfrey was elected in November.
"Clerk" is an elected position in Detroit?
She had to *buy* the lists?
Yeah, the MSM was all over this fraud weren't they?
Fact is, it's never fraud when Dems cheat. It's just "good politics".
In national elections Detroit is always the last to turn in results in Michigan. Bottom line the 'Rats establish how many votes it will take to put their guy in the winners column and Detroit delivers ... this has been going on for years.
Will they match the names and dates of the dead with the voter rolls from 2004?
I have no doubt they will all vote in November.
how dare they disenfranchise all those democrat voters?
Thanks for the info & link.
PING to Wa. state. Tell us again how your govenor got elected.
It is entirely possible that Kerry's margin of victory in Michigan were these "voters" in Detroit. Same thing is true in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
they moved to Beruit
New Orleans has served that function in Louisiana forever.
It is no coincidence that Orleans Parish is always the last to report.
In the next election she is toast.
Move to St Louis and get elected to do the same job.
Probably none of them, contrary to rumors spread by Republican Party campaign workers spreading their propoganda via the Drudge Report. The Republicans never identified by name the dead persons who supposedly voted in Philadelphia according to a report they filtered through Drudge early on election day 2004.
Do you think it would be worth a postage stamp and paper to write Sixty Minutes a letter asking them to investigate this fraud?
Guess how many of them are dead?
If you factor out the pulse-challenged voters in 2004, Kerry's take is more like 45%. The city of Milwaukee purged a 150,000 voters who may have voted in 2004, who were non-existent. Here in STL, Polls were kept open later than allowed when algore was projected to lose. Bottom line-the dems, lacking message, ability, and likeability, have to cheat in elections...

Did you not read the whole story or just ignoring it?
Here's the last sentence
"In February, the newspaper published a review of ballots cast in the November election that showed many were cast under the names of people who have died, were serving time in prison or did not live in the city."
Well gee, here is a thought you don't hear everyday.
Vote Early, Vote Often
Yes, apparently she had to buy the lists. Why one government agency should have to pay for mere information from another government agency puzzles me.
In fact, death lists should be automatically forwarded to the appropriate boards of elections.
Women, children and minorities will be the hardest hit!
55,000 dead Democrats.
It doesn't matter. This city is owned by the Democrat Party.
55,000 dead people removed from the voter rolls? Well look on the bright side---at the time, the person compiling the names got a lot of fresh air and exercise getting the names off tombstones.
So that's why they call 'rats the party of death.
Don't miss this nugget:
>>>Clerk Janice Winfrey bought lists of deaths from the state and city health department.<<<
I hope this is being investigated.
Same thing happened in Milwaukee, in effect turning the state red in my opinion. New Mexico didnt certify the vote until they recounted it many times. Dems cant win on message, treason, military hatred, and appeasement, so they cheat..
"Orleans Parish, La. just got 55,000 new Democrat voters."
Do you suppose the City Clerks sell voting lists like email addresses? Might be a way to make money for the city in a tight economy. :>)
