While I wish he had used his veto many times over before on a LOT of things, I have no problem with the federal government not funding stem cell research.

Leave it to the private sector and private funds.

But I do wish he had used it many times before to stop federal funding bills.

WRONG! Government spending is needed in areas where private companies are unwilling or unable to invest capital.

I am proud of my president. Federal funding should not be used in "experimenting" when it comes to destroying human life. Private funding goes on as it is, it is not banned. It causes more harm than good and I am
extremely disappointed in Frist and Hatch.

I would be happier if he found it earlier. Now that he found it I hope he uses it often. Now as far as this bill goes, is the congress going to override. That would just make this useless if that happens.

The elected official's job is NOT to simply ape the will of the majority of his constituents nor vote his own will. His job is to do what is legally permitted and best for the societal unit over which he governs. Protecting innocent life is a high calling and moral obligation for any legitimate government. I couldn't put it any better myself. I would add that these private companies have much more incentive to do the research efficiently and effectively. Give me the profit motive over politics any day.

Not really. There's lots of embryonic stem cell research going on all over the place. Here at the University of Minnesota, they have several projects ongoing. They're funded by private grants, not federal ones.

Again, this veto is really meaningless if the goal is to prevent such research. It has no effect on it at all.
