Lebanon Demands Compensation From Israel

BEIRUT, Lebanon -- Israeli troops clashed with Hezbollah guerrillas on the Lebanese side of the border Wednesday, while Lebanon's prime minister reported a death toll of 300 and demanded compensation from Israel for the "unimaginable losses" to the nation's infrastructure.

As fighting entered its second week, Israeli warplanes flattened houses in south Lebanon and Hezbollah rockets made their first hit near Christian holy sites in Israel: Two rockets hit Nazareth — the biblical hometown of Jesus — killing two brothers ages 3 and 9 as they played outside, bringing the Israeli death toll to 29. At least 18 others were wounded in the attack.

Washington said it won't push Israel toward a fast cease-fire in the fighting, started July 12 after Hezbollah guerrillas captured two Israeli soldiers. The latest fighting dealt a blow to efforts to send international peacekeepers to bolster the 2,000-member U.N. force in south Lebanon.

As the conflict intensified, more than 1,000 Americans were evacuated Wednesday from Beirut's port aboard a luxury cruise liner, the first large pullout by the United States after complaints of delays. European nations three days ago sent ships to evacuate thousands. Two U.S. Chinook helicopters also took 200 Americans to Cyprus.

Addressing foreign ambassadors, including U.S. Ambassador Jeffrey Feltman, Prime Minister Fuad Saniora gave the first official death toll in the conflict, saying also that 1,000 have been wounded and a half-million displaced.

He made an urgent appeal for an end to the fighting, saying Lebanon "has been torn to shreds."

In a swipe particularly at the United States, Saniora asked: "Is this what the international community calls self-defense? Is this the price we pay for aspiring to build our democratic institutions?"

The International Red Cross, along with the U.N. children's and health agencies, expressed serious concern about civilian casualties

Israel should demand compensation from Lebanon for letting terrorists operate openly in their country.

Maybe the Lebanese government should factor in the compensation owed to Israel for their failure to disarm hezbollah, their inability to control those in their own country (hezbollah), and much more.

Israel should bill them for having to actually implement UN resolution 1559, and much, much more, IMO.

The impotent Lebanese government should be thanking Israel for removing the hezbollah scum, IMO.

Since Lebanon supported the Hizbollah, look to Iran and Syria for compensation. Israel's doing the job that Lebanon refuses to do--clearing out the garbage. Go Israel go!

His country didn't handle the internal problems of allowing in Iranian terrorist in the south who were lobbing missiles at Israel and crossing the border to attack and take military hostages.

What the F is the this guy thinking, had his own house been in order, none of this would be happening.

He's making it sound like they are with Iran on this.

the 2,000-member U.N. force in south Lebanon.

2,000 UN force and the Lebanon army sat watching as Syria and Iran built up Hezballah with over 13,000 rockets and heavens only knows what else, AND DID NOTHING!!!

Ask Syria and Iran for compensation.

Exactly. If the Lebanese were serious about wanting Democracy and to live in peace, they would make a deal to run every Hizbollah in the country out and back to Iran and Syria where they came from.

In the end, we USA tax-payers are going to have to pay for it.

I just pulled this from Newt's op-ed in the USA today. In the last paragraph he is almost offering our money and support.

Newt says"

"To do that, the United States should offer to help strengthen the Lebanese government so that it has the ability to re-establish itself in all of Lebanon and defeat the military wing of Hezbollah."

Apparently all Pallies and lebonites are beyond stupid. They leave the doors open to poisonous vipers and say welcome! and then bitch when they get bit.

The Pallies voted for the vipers and so now live with it and shut the **** up. Ditto Lebanon. The news including FOX keeps repeating Lebanon's are being killed but no mention of any terrorist killed. So are we to assume that all Lebanon's are terrorist or vice versa. OMG---Such a pee pantie bunch! If the UN had did its job 6 years ago this could not have happened. The UN is crap waiting to be sent to France for processing.

Sorry. You should've honored your promise to disband and dispel Hezbollah in 2000 (in exchange for Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon). Instead, you gave them seats in your Parliament, and failed to prevent their incessant missile attacks since 2000. This is the price you pay. Until you compensate Israel for the damage and death caused by Hezbollah since 200, you have no right to request compensation for the Israeli attempts to do what you should have done 6 years ago.

NO. It's the price you pay for continuing to harbor and play kissy-face with the terrorists whose sole goal in life is to annihilate your neighbor - and beyond.

Lebanon should look toward Iran & Syria to pick up the tab. Since Iran and Syria are only interested in anti-Western jihadic destruction coupled with advanced weapons to Hizballah to murder Israelis and Americans, Lebanon will be waiting a long time to collect from the Axis of Jihad.

Chutzpah! They should be sending the bill to Hezbollah, which wrecked the country. Make them pay from their ill-gotten billions. But they spent it all on weapons of death and destruction, right? When you harbor a dangerous criminal, don't be surprised if you end up getting hurt. I have no sympathy for them on that score.
