That is an understatement.
See my recent post:
ILLEGAL ALIENS BEING SET FREE (THANKS TO I.C. E. AND ITS DERILICTION OF DUTY

Illegals are a grave security threat in these dangerous times. We need to stop the flood now.
Deputize all who wish to carry a gun, and round up the illegals. Arrest the employers, and throw them in jail, fine them heavily, and take their profits.
I will volunteer to drive a bus to the border, where we use the cheap labor to build a tall fence! I'd bet we can get a couple million guns together by friday, and the will to put them to use!
In wholehearted agreement. Now, how do we get this organized and obtain Federal government approval?
Somehow they find a way to get things done.

Belmont County Sheriff Fred Thompson said his officers were instructed by federal immigration services to let all 20 illegal immigrants go free, and said his department has no choice but to follow the orders from immigration officials. Thompson said officers stopped a van at 3 a.m. Tuesday which was traveling the wrong direction on Interstate 470 in St. Clairsville. The officer discovered 20 illegal Mexican immigrants inside the van, including three who were previously deported. The officer immediately contacted immigration... |
As he was leaving, I made a crack that elicited a different response. I said something like enjoy going back to Dunkin Donuts. If you are not satisfied, he said, call my chief. What's his name and number, I inquired. I called, and the police raided the next morning. They had INS, fire department and code enforcement with them. I wrote it up and posted the story on FR, but the thread was pulled after 75 posts I never saw.
I told you the whole story so you might see that there is tension between local law enforcement and federal immigration officials that needs to be addressed and worked out.
You have to get past this president and the people who pad his bank accounts (Oops, I meant his library fund! NOT!)!
The fedrool gum't is the obstacle!
To be honest, the Bush administration, led by Bush, has never had any intention of doing anything about "immigration".
We are now one of the largest Spanish-speaking nations in the world. We're a major source of Latin music, journalism and culture. Just go to Miami, or San Antonio, Los Angeles, Chicago or West New York, New Jersey ... and close your eyes and listen. You could just as easily be in Santo Domingo or Santiago, or San Miguel de Allende. For years our nation has debated this change -- some have praised it and others have resented it. By nominating me, my party has made a choice to welcome the new America. As I speak, we are celebrating the success of democracy in Mexico. George Bush from a campaign speech in Miami, August 2000. |
Here is an excerpt of a good critique of that speech:
In equating our intimate historic bonds to our mother country and to Canada with our ties to Mexico, W. shows a staggering ignorance of the civilizational facts of life. The reason we are so close to Britain and Canada is that we share with them a common historical culture, language, literature, and legal system, as well as similar standards of behavior, expectations of public officials, and so on. The Dems, or the Pubbies?
Never fear, Congress will save us!. Like the fence, Congress voted for 800 new ICE Agents and then, months later refused to fund the hiring of the Agents.
They will do the same to any border enforcement bill.
As do I.
We're spending $4b a month in Iraq, and the polititcians think $2b is too much money to build afriggin wall on our Southern border.
Ha ha ha.
great carton
Given the international political turmoil, from your overseas business perspective, where do you think the DOW will be in the next year?

You won't get flamed from this part of the land. I agree with you.
"Given the international political turmoil, from your overseas business perspective, where do you think the DOW will be in the next year?"
