Dear Friend,

This is Mayor Lou Barletta from Hazleton, Pennsylvania.

I wanted to take a moment to thank you for your support regarding the Illegal Immigration Relief Ordinance, which City Council passed on July 13.

As you can imagine, my office has been inundated by thousands of e-mails, letters, and phone calls of support - from coast to coast and border to border.

I am grateful for every sign of support. You have my personal thanks because we have accomplished this together.

Soon, Hazleton will implement the ordinance, which intends to make my city one of the toughest places in the country for illegal aliens by fining landlords who rent to illegal aliens and companies who knowingly hire them.

After suffering through several high-profile crimes involving illegal aliens, we've sent a clear message that we've had enough. Hazleton is working to take back our streets, our neighborhood, and our community.

Many people have asked for copies of the Illegal Immigration Relief Ordinance to present to their own elected officials.

Others have asked to be updated on our progress here in Hazleton.

I have created www.smalltowndefenders.com, a website that will be updated as events happen to keep you informed of our progress.

On www.smalltowndefenders.com, you will be able to find copies of the Illegal Immigration Relief Ordinance, as well as postings from me regarding the implementation of it and our responses to any legal challenges.

I invite you to take a moment to log on to www.smalltowndefenders.com. I encourage you to bookmark the page and visit it often.

Together, we can make a difference in America.

Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Louis J. Barletta

Mayor, City of Hazleton, Pennsylvania

Hats off to Louis J. Barletta, an American hero.

Agreed. We can only hope other 'small town' Mayors look to Mr. Barletta as an inspiration.

News form Avon Park, FL.

The Avon Park City Council is scheduled to take a final vote on the ordinance at its meeting at 6 tonight.

The ordinance would prohibit the city of about 8,500 people from licensing any business that aided or abetted illegal immigrants or illegal immigration anywhere in the United States for the past five years. It would also bar renting or leasing property to illegal immigrants and establishes English as the sole language to conduct city business.

Click here for the full article and related articles in the right hand margin.

Avon Park is in the central part of Florida between Orlando and Tampa.

Wow. The article you linked seems pretty biased for illegals. From the article:

"Mayor Tom Macklin, who drafted the ordinance, said the city needed it to clean up substandard and overcrowded housing that is often rented to illegal immigrants.

"If we had known that this was going to happen, we would not have moved here," said Mendoza, a Mexican native with U.S. residency. "Although I am a resident I feel like all the (illegal immigrants). If they do something against them, it's as if they were doing it to me. I am dark-skinned and don't know much English. I too am a target for discrimination under the ordinance." The Rev. Jose Gonzalez, pastor of St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Sebring, organized the prayer service in conjunction with immigrant rights groups around the state.

They came from Polk County, Tallahassee, Sarasota and Miami, he said. Gonzalez invited other parish leaders to join the effort against the Illegal Immigration Relief Act, among them the Rev. Jorge Torres, a priest at St. Ann Catholic Church in Haines City and one of the prayer service leaders. Torres said he came with about 20 of his parishioners."

Wow. The article you linked seems pretty biased for illegals.

When I read the article this morning I was incredulous. What part of illegal don't people understand?

It's as if being an "illegal immigrant" is on a par with driving 66 in a 65 MPH zone.

As long as they pick the citrus, strawberries and other crops for crap wages then it's a "wink, wink; okey-dokey thing" to be one.

Talking with one guy the other day and he said the citrus industry depends on illegals and would go bust if it wasn't for the cheap labor. I asked him, "So, it is better to pay 10 cents less for a grapefruit and $100 more for an ER visit to have illegals living here?"

Good example of assimilation.
This racist Mexican/anti American is what we have to look forward to if we don't stop this invasion. He is no"target" but he IS a liar!
