Case Closed:The truth about the Iraqi-Niger "yellowcake" nexus.
Slate ^ | July 26, 2006 | Christopher Hitchens

Valerie Plame and Joseph WilsonNow that Joseph and Valerie Wilson's fantasies of having been persecuted by high officials in the administration have been so thoroughly dispelled by Robert Novak (and now that it seems the prosecutor has determined that there was no breach of the relevant laws to begin with), we may return to the more important original question. Was there good reason to suppose that Iraqi envoys visited Niger in search of "yellowcake" uranium ore?

In a series of columns, I have argued that the answer to this is "yes," and that British intelligence was right to inform Washington to that effect. Iraq—despite having yellowcake of its own—

I am just so shocked. Joe Wilson looks like such a nice man.

To summarize, then: In February 1999 one of Saddam Hussein's chief nuclear goons paid a visit to Niger, but his identity was not noticed by Joseph Wilson, nor emphasized in his "report" to the CIA, nor mentioned at all in his later memoir. British intelligence picked up the news of the Zahawie visit from French and Italian sources and passed it on to Washington. Zahawie's denials of any background or knowledge, in respect of nuclear matters, are plainly laughable based on his past record, and he is still taken seriously enough as an expert on such matters to be invited (as part of a Jordanian delegation) to Hans Blix's commission on WMD. Two very senior and experienced diplomats in the field of WMDs and disarmament, both of them from countries by no means aligned with the Bush administration, have been kind enough to share with me their disquiet at his activities. What responsible American administration could possibly have viewed any of this with indifference?

Nailed it.

But Valerie's career was ruined. Ruined, I tell you. She had to give up her phony-balony job as an office clerk to become a writer of hot-selling left-wing books. I cry for her. Cry, I tell you.

Although the Wilson's both deny that she had anything to do with him going to Niger in 2002, she was also instrumental in him going in 1999 as well.

These two Bozo's were best friends of the Clintons so hopefully someone will connect the last few dots and find the Clinton connection to Niger as well........and Rockefeller.

I remember this photo from Vanity Fair, and was sure they were going to end up falling into the 'Vanity Fair Exposé Curse', where after a fawning article they crash: Enron, (Lay), Conrad Black, I can't even remember the rest there are so many.

She wasn't exactly lying.

She had nothing to do with him going to Niger.
He was going, (1999 and 2002), to Niger to handle affairs for his company.

She suggested to her bosses he do the 'spying' for them (her job) because he was accepted over there and not a spy, and he was going anyway.

Now, what does that company that Joe owns, do?

They brokered sales of yellowcake ore for the President of Niger. (They were working on a sale to Saddam. It had to be done through a third party. )

Joe was in the best position to find out if Saddam was trying to buy YO, because that's what Joe's company was selling.

They sold the ore to Libya, and Libya sold it to Saddam.
So, when he said Saddam wasn't buying it from Niger, he wasn't lying either.

The 'fake' documents of a sale came from collaboration between the Dems and French foreign agents as a means to hide the true facts. They made sure the documents were so obviously fake to ensure it would be discovered. When those documents were 'exposed' as fakes, the 'massage' was that no sales occurred if the documents were fake.

And everyone bought it.

Joe was the best person

the administration gave up way too early on making the case for the truth here, that the forged documents were planted as a poison pill to discredit what was otherwise a true story.

That's as coherent an explanation as I've seen anywhere.

I would wonder if the Clintons were in on the original set-up for the sale to Libya/Iraq. (And getting a cut of it, too, of course) That would explain the big guns acting on Wilson's wolf cry that Bush/Cheney was out to get him... all distraction while the real story got buried.

But they didn't take Fedora, Sam Hill, Enchante, Clarice and others into account. Heh, heh, heh. Wonder if that's why Hillary's showing off her stone cold breasts today....

Reading Hitchen's entire article is well worth it for anyone who has followed any part of this story.

Would that it had been written in August of 2003. But I guess it has taken this long to uncover all of the diliberate smoke and messy confusion that was manufactured to cover it.

It's only fair to ask now if the Wilsons profited monetarily from the yellowcake purchases that Saddam made...

I think YK went from Niger to Libya for both
Saddam's and Libyas use. Saddam's scientists were there,
so that program wouldn't be found out in Iraq.
Wilson's company worked with French company COGEMA, who got so called oil for food payoffs from Saddam. Cogema ran
Niger YK operations. So we have round robbin effect..
YK to Libya, money from Saddam to Cogema(Joe gets a cut),
Cogema pays Niger. Saddam's and Libya's program has
material. But when Saddam got captured, Libya caved, nuke program went to us, and most is locked up in TN & KY..
Sneaky bastards,Niger, Joe, Saddam, Libya, French, etc.Ed
