Sorry, this is conspiracy theory crap worthy of the Weekly World News. I'd expect to see this headline right up there with "Bat Boy Lives!"....

Let's not become a right-wing DailyKos, folks, biting at every stupid conspiracy theory.

So if a NAFTA arbitrator decided that America couldn't place tariffs on Canadian lumber, we'd have to go along?

That is correct. Comply or pay a massive fine.

And if we refused to comply and refused to pay the fine?

I don't know. As far as I know, that scenario has never come up.

You should do some research on the issue of Canadian lumber and US tariffs.

Last week, the extraordinary challenge panel dismissed Washington's claims that Canadian softwood exports are subsidized and damage the U.S. lumber industry. Canada immediately called on Washington to return about $5 billion collected from Canadian companies. The Americans refused, saying the ruling didn't end the matter because it did not deal with a 2004 decision from the U.S. International Trade Commission which supported the American case.

Canada suspends softwood talks with U.S.

Your original question was "and if we refuse to comply or pay the fine?" Which has not yet happened. NAFTA ruled in Canada's favor several times, and the U.S. has appealed several times. The U.S. has since made a very good case for itself and it is possible that we will have the NAFTA decisions reversed on appeal. I believe the decision is due sometime next month. If we lose the appeal and there are no further appeals and the U.S. still refuses to pay up? Then we will see what happens under the scenario you raised.

Have we complied yet? Have we paid a fine yet?

I thought our hands were tied? And could you tell me how any of this supersedes the Constitution?

~Michael Medved thinks the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America is as wholesome as mother's milk and anyone with reservations about it is a conspiracy kook. He's expressed that sentiment on several occasions.~

THIS IS TREASON!!
