In the southern states during the colonial period, plantation owners first attempted to use white immigrants for plantation work, but had problems keeping them on the plantation because they could move into the interior of the country and blend in with the rest of the population. Plantation owners then began forcing Africans to immigrate to the country and form a permanent immigrant class.That sentence just leaves me shaking my head in bewilderment.

Today, many farmers have to rely on immigrants to harvest their crops because citizens are uninterested in such work. no...citizens are uninterested in doing hard work for next to nothing...I'll pay more for a loaf of bread...or a head of lettuce if it means getting these lawbreakers out of the country.
