Iranian Volunteers Set Off For Lebanon
The Examiner , Washington ^ | July 27, 2006 | Examiner wires

Posted on 07/27/2006 9:59:32 PM PDT by gleeaikin

Tehran, Iran--Surrounded by yellow Hezbollah flags, more than 60 Iranian volunteers set off Wednesday to join what they called a holy war against Israeli forces in Lebanon. The group--ranging from teenagers to grandfathers--plans to join about 200 other volunteers on the way to the Turkish border, which they hope to cross Thursday. They plan to reach Lebanon via Syria over the weekend.

Iran says it will not send regular forces to aid Hezbollah, but apparently it will not attempt to stop volunteer guerrillas. Iran and Syria are Hezbollah's main sponsors.

Organizers said the volunteers were not carrying weapons, and it was not clear whether Turkey would let them pass.

These volunteers are salted by regular military officers and soldiers of the Iranian Army. They GOT to replace those Iranian soldiers Marrying Lebanese Widows who went home to Iran in body bags.

Can't keep those professional widows waiting!

I remember 50,000 of them signing up last year in Iran for a mission such as this. No weapons on them, eh. I remember a JAG episode where a terrorist infected himself with some sort of WWMD germ that took effect after a week or so...

That's 60 fewer going to Iraq.

Seems the terrorists have a two front war as well..

Is this the same as the 120 suicide bombers that was reported earlier.

Having just read 4 of the articles posted in the comment a few boxes above yours, I would say that 60/200 is only the first wave. The hard line student group sponsoring this says they plan to recruit lots more. Recruitment is also going on in Basra, Iraq. Another commentor says there is recruitment taking place in SE Asia. All thes is another parallel with the Spanish Civil War.

But why would there be more significant response to a callup of folks to go support Hezbollah vs the terrorists in Iraq? Sure, sure, attacking Jews is a favorite pasttime for terrorists, but you have the Americans right there to attack - why bother going through all the trouble of heading through Turkey (which is going after Kurds at the moment in the same region.)

Newt must have slept though WW III.
The U.S. lost almost 100,000 KIA in that one. It wasn't "Cold."

Look at it this way, if these people are flooding into Lebanon to fight the Israelis then there should be fewer available to flood into Iraq to fight with us. And the beauty of it is that Israel is not quite as PC about who and how they kill the enemy.

Hey, Iran, thanks for all the advance notice. Israel should track them by satellite and strike them someplace deep inside of Syria.

"Why bother going through Turkey?"

Because if you are coming from Iran it is the quickest land route. People from SE asia will no doubt use another route. The path from SE asia to Mecca is well traveled.

"IF they are going to Israel there will be fewer for Iraq, and Israel not as PC about killing the enemy."

My son who is serving in Afganistan agrees with you totally. Lots have already gone there which is part of the reason for the action this season. He also feels the American people are too soft. "Army's break things and kill people." Not made for family TV viewing.
