Sharron Angle's Five Conservative Principles
The National Ledger ^ | 07/28/2006 | Chris Davis

Posted on 07/28/2006 12:58:08 PM PDT by writer33

There is no doubt. Sharron Angle is the best conservative candidate for Nevada’s 2nd Congressional district. It could be said that after ten long years, the clouds have lifted and conservatism is ready to warm a seat in the U.S. Congress. It could also be said that America’s strength is directly proportionate to its level of conservative members in Congress. However, it should be said that if it weren’t for conservatism, America might never have taken the necessary measures to become a sovereign nation.

These days there is no written law on conservatism, no manual that defines the commonalities for conservatives. There is, however, a set of principles upon which most conservatives would subscribe. Ms. Angle is just one of those conservatives. She is a conservative that is willing to take those principles to Washington, a conservative that is ready to cut pork and relieve American citizens of excessive taxation.

Ms. Angle has lived in Nevada for over 50 years. She has cherished President Reagan’s vision for America. She carried five principles with her six years in the Nevada Assembly. Now, she is ready to take them to the U.S. House of Representatives.

These five principles, upon which most conservatives would agree, are:

1) America is guided by an enduring moral order, having an origin in God. Conservatives believe that human nature is constant, and that morality is permanent. The Judeo-Christian ethic, passed down by our Founding Fathers, is inherently interwoven into the American society. A society in which strong moral traditions—have a good sense of right and wrong—have been rooted is a good society; while a society in which moral traditions are adrift—having no clear definition between right and wrong—is a bad society.

Ms. Angle believes that a strong moral order is the path to a great society. On her website, she states, “All human life is precious, regardless of location, age, infirmity, or degree of dependence. The traditional family is the foundation of our society. Parents have the fundamental right and primary responsibility to direct their children and to provide nurturing care, discipline, and training in moral values.”

Ms. Angle feels that to skew the line between right and wrong is to set America on the path of ancient Greece, blurring morality while trying to please alternative lifestyles. She notes, on her website, that she worked to help pass the Protection of Marriage Act in Nevada and supports the Federal Marriage Amendment to do the same. Ms. Angle believes that there is a difference between right and wrong, and that it should be maintained.

2) Americans’ private property and freedom are inseparably connected. Conservatives, Ms. Angle included, believe that great societies are built upon the foundation of private property, that to allow Americans to retain more and more private property is to allow more and more freedom. Ms. Angle states “she supports and defends the rights of the individuals to own private property.” She has supported and continues to support keeping private property taxes low. She knows that for Americans to continue to own private property is to continue to propagate the finest of American traditions, while ensuring blessings of liberty to all men and women and their posterity.

3) The power to tax is the power to destroy. The Founding Fathers believed that excessive taxation would ruin a great society. Conservatives know that keeping a low tax base is the key to economic prosperity. Ms. Angle is no different. She has found that lower taxation results in a prosperous populous. She believes that this allows individuals to have more disposable income to either save or spend.

“The best way to control an overbearing government,” she notes, “is to strictly control the amount of taxes imposed on the people. That is why I support simplification of tax systems, and I support tax reform that leads to a fairer, flatter tax system. I will join other Congressional conservatives in voting to reduce personal income tax rates, permanently cap the tax on capital gains, and permanently eliminate the death tax and the Alternative Minimum Tax.”

4) National security is of the highest priority. Conservatives have long since known that without security there can be no prosperity, no peace in society. A vigorous defense of liberty is needed to prevent the breakdown of the American society. Therefore, national security is the primary function of the federal government, as intended by the U.S. Constitution, and should always be maintained at the highest of priorities.

Ms. Angle believes that America will not be America unless all those that threaten this nation pay a heavy price. She believes in the U.S. Armed Forces, and that you cannot have a peaceful country without absolute victory.

“The war on terror is the central challenge of our time,” she claims. “I support a military force of superior strength and readiness to deter all threats to our national security or the safety and freedom of our citizens. We must equip our military with the best possible weapons and intelligence. The United Nations or foreign capitals must not be allowed to dictate the steps we take to defend our national security, and I oppose placement of our troops under any foreign command, including the United Nations.”

Ms. Angle also comments that “only when the democratically elected government in Iraq is stable can we remove American security forces. For the stability of our future at home we can accept no outcome other than victory.”

Conservatives have and will always remember those that have given the ultimate sacrifice in defense of liberty. For they know that without that sacrifice, liberty can be lost, and America—as we know—it could be lost forever. Ms. Angle is no different.

5) Border security is vital to America’s security. Conservatives have long supported legal immigration. They have welcomed those that long to become Americans into their arms, understanding that variety is the sole characteristic of the American society. Conservative Americans know that this country can only be great if individuals are allowed to prosper in their unique differences.

Ms. Angle understands this as well as any conservative American; nevertheless, she also knows that illegal immigration is tantamount as national security. She understands that to leave the border open to an invading force is to neglect a Constitutional duty.

“We must secure our borders and enforce the law,” she comments. “Everyday, thousands of people cross our borders illegally and undetected. We don’t know their intentions and we don’t have any means to track their activities. I support a much heavier physical presence on our borders, including military assistance to help the Border Patrol effectively do its job.”

Border security is as important to Ms. Angle as it is to conservative Americans. She doesn’t feel compelled to treat illegal aliens as a voting block, rather, she feels compelled to protect Americans and enforce the law, because Ms. Angle knows that a lawless land is an invitation to disaster.

Sharron Angle longs to take her five conservative principles to Washington, D.C. Receiving endorsements from Congressmen Mike Pence, R-IN and Jim Ryun, R-KS, she is willing to take the long trek to the U.S House of Representatives for the sake of America and for the sake of conservatism.

She is ready to look in the camera to millions of Americans and say, “As a preface, my overall political philosophy is that government properly exists only by the consent of the governed and must be restrained from intruding into the freedoms of its citizens. In Congress, I will consistently fight for smaller and more efficient government, a strong national defense that protects our freedoms, and traditional values.”

With your support, Sharron Angle is ready to become the next U.S. Congresswoman from Nevada’s 2nd District.

wouldn't the conservatives at the time of the American revolution have been the people loyal to the crown, i.e those who wanted to maintain the status quo? I think the writer has it backwards

This is the seat for whom RINO Jim Gibbons, Harry Reid's best friend in Nevada, is vacating to run for Governor. He is attempting to install his wife, Dawn, whom is also a state Assemblywoman, in the seat. Secretary of State Dean Heller is also running. At this point, I'm for anyone but Gibbons, either for Governor (I'm supporting Bob Beers) or NV-2.

The last poll I saw was two months ago on May 19, and it had Dawn Gibbons in the lead, but that's not worth anything anymore.

The last poll on Beers was Gibbons by 6, which is good for a primary.

Gibbons has dropped 20 points in two months. Early voting starts tomorrow and Beers could pull it out. He's been averaging about two points a week for the last month.

It's now 38% - 32% for Gibbons, but that's changing fast.

Keep our fingers crossed that the Gibbons family reign of error comes to a screeching halt ! NV has already suffered through 8 years of one RINO Governor, they don't need 4 more with Jimmy.

Add a belief in the individual not the collective and that's a pretty good list.

we cannot elect conservatives to office. If they run they will get little or no funding, Bush will campaign for candidates like Specter and Chaffee against a conservative, the media will not give them fair treatment and even FReepers will pooh-pooh them.

We will NEVER elect a single real 'conservative' to office. Besides I have pretty much given up on all of them anyway... all politicians are the bad guys

If she wins, I trust that you will visit with her about restoring the Constitution. I know how it can be done, and who can get the job done. The Reagan Wing is the answer to how, but that is only a part of the solution. Until I can get people to listen to the rest of the story, a lot of the other opportunities are limited.

Of course. If she wins, she'll be held accountable to execute those principles upon which she ran. No problem.
