Mel does have some class, though. If this report is true, I expect he will apologize profusely.
Me, I'm not about to cast aspersions on anyone who babbles incoherently after having had one too many. Just about everyone I know -- myself included -- has been down that route a time or two.
When you're intoxicated...your true self is revealed....Shame on Mr. Gibson is this is all true...his career is effectively over.
Ditto.
I understand that this TMZ website has all the credibility of CBS and the NYT. In other words, they are not above creating stuff out of thin air.
You're wrong...most of Hollywood decision makers are Jewish. This is WAY OVER THE TOP.
You're wrong...most of Hollywood decision makers are Jewish. This is WAY OVER THE TOP.
Nothing about it on http://www.thesmokinggun.com/ This sort of thing is their meat and drink - until and unless it appears there, I'm calling BS.
Are they sure it wasn`t Hillary they arrested?
:-)
I can't imagine getting belligerent around police officers--not today. I've got two sons who are street cops, and they don't take much of that stuff before they arrest and take the perp to the drunk tank.
I agree.
Nah. Hollyweird will embrace him as one of their own and forgive him for "Passion". ;)
I doubt that.
I don't know how this would apply to someone if they had been on the wagon for awhile and started drinking again.
Is there something in the water out there that makes people crazy?
We'll see....
I think he fell off the wagon big time with all the stress over the Passion. After that movie, he was acting pretty nuts (well even more nuts)and seemed to age about 20 years which I suspect is from the booze. Also, a big side effect from alcoholism is self destruction which may be the reason for his comments. It all becomes about the booze after a while, and if the career or job gets in the way of that, you destroy it, conciously or subconciously, so you will have more time to drink (take it from one who knows). I mean what is the WORST possible thing he could have said to screw up his career? Mel has a huge booze problem, and to me that is the reason he said "My life is f****d." Now it probably really is because they taped everything he said.
It doesn't change the truth of the movie. :)
I am one who knows as well. I believe your observation is spot on. And, like you, when I read "I'm F**KED, the first thing I thought of was that he wasn't talking about his career, he was talking about his family. If it's all out in the open...well...you know.
I wasn't ranting. I transposed the decimal in the alcohol level, sorry, I meant .12, and I forgot the arresting officer was in the Sheriff's dept and not LAPD. My mistakes.
Still, I do believe the officer(s) and I cannot by any wild stretch condone what Mel Gibson did. Can you?
Gibson netted, according to reports, nearly $700 million from The Passion.
His "career" is managing his money; he doesn't have to do any more movies, though he directs more now than acts in them.
Ahhhh...I see you have finally come to embrace reality. TMZ (Time-Warner/AOL) obviously has a friend inside the LAPD; aside from that, they would never make up a story as radioactive as this one.
At first, the cops tried to sanitize the circumstances of the arrest, but the arresting PO was evidently PO'd enough to write everything down very carefully. In my opinion, it went down as the officer wrote it. And, IMO, this episode has tainted the movie that his fans always denied had any Jew-hatred in it. Harder to defend now, eh?
OK, I'll revise that so people stop writing to me....TO ME, his career is over....added to the list of people I will not give money to anymore. OK? :)
In addition, your career has nothing to do with how much money you have.
Are you kidding? His behavior and words have eliminated all possibilities of his having any class at all.
Me, I'm not about to cast aspersions on anyone who babbles incoherently after having had one too many.
You could fill me full of Chivas, tequila, beer, heroin, or chocolate and I would never swear at the police. I would never speak ill of any race or religion.
To this very minute, all the radio newscasts still say that he was brought in without incident, and that an investigation is pending.
When you're intoxicated your judgment is GONE or at the very least compromised. You are NOT your true self.
Understand, I am not making excuses for Mel Gibson's behavior. As a recovering alcoholic, his fatal mistake was taking that first drink.
I never said that I would condone that kind of behaviour. But I certainly understand losing your way and being lost.
I went through holy hell two years ago here because I was hypercritical of Gibson. I didn't see The Passion until this past year, and I thought it was gratuitously bloody and went overboard with all the satan fantasies, taken from the "visions" of Catherine Emmerich.
My knee-jerk defense of him last night was, I'll admit, due to not believing he would rant about Jews in public.
This convinces me that he is just as weird as I thought he was. Worse, he appears to have absorbed his dad's anti-semitism like a sponge.
Your judgement is impaired so you just might say something your ordinarily wouldn't say publicly...like F**KING JEWS! But that's not something you just come up with out of thin air. That's the kind of judgement that would be impaired. I know about drinking, believe me...when I used to drink...whatever I thought came out MORE SO...if I debated politics, I'd be a louder right winger...I wouldn't say I was a libertarian? Do you understand what I'm saying by true self?
Alcoholism is much different than a simple drunk. Gibson has admitted that he had an alcohol problem. At one point he had kicked it. Apparently he's drinking again. Alcoholics have blackouts and say and do things they normally would not. And they have no memory of it. I met a woman who called her Hubby "a travelling drunk". He'd wake up across the country and not know how he got there. They'd send him bus fare home.
A bartender on this very website told me, two years ago, that a true alcoholic can get "drunk" on two drinks.
Just a small point. It wasn't LAPD but LA Sheriffs. Don't know as that makes a differece.
Again, I'm not making excuses for him. His biggest mistake was taking that first drink.
Were you ever so angry that you said something pretty irrational to make someone else angry that you regretted the moment you said it. If you said it sober, believe me, you would say it alot quicker drunk.
That being said, I pass no judgement on the man. Alcohol has different effects on different people. Mel never claimed to be Christ, he just produced a movie about His death.
Sounds more like PCP than liquor.
If this is Mel's excuse, it's going to take a LOT of work for anyone to listen to him explain this, should he sober up one day and want to apologize.
I have no idea what he'll say. I was explaining alcoholism as you didn't seem to understand it. Going out and getting drunk once in awhile is very different than being an alcoholic and what it does to a person.
Another reason I believe the cops.
That being said, I pass no judgement on the man.
That is painful to hear. Boorish obscene behavior and language should be judged, regardless of what the person imbibes. And the anti-Semitic remarks, if they are not judged, lead to death, as has been historically noted.
I do understand alcoholism but luckily only from a textbook perspective. I do know that at its absolute worst, the vitamin deficiencies do cause severe, permanent brain damage. Mel can't be that far gone yet and thus remains responsible for his behavior. AA would agree.
Thanks for the correction. And, it would make more sense that they had friends at the local sheriff's office in Malibu.
In his case, the acorn did not fall far from the tree.
He was a drunk for years when he was younger. I saw a Kiefer Sutherland interview in which he talks about blackouts and having no idea what he did. There doesn't need to be brain damage for there to be blackouts.
I admit.... I do not want to believe this story.
maybe too much
TT
Marlon Brando at least waited til just before he died to make such comments. There was an interview, where he openly claimed that Hollywood is owned by the Jews.
Too late to punish him.
I can't see Mel being that loose with his words. Must have been a very weak moment for him. Something must have happened.
That doesn't sound right. From what I've seen (and I admit, I haven't followed the ticket sales very closely) the Passion grossed close to $612 million world wide. So it would seem a bit out of synch that Gibson could have netted $700 million from that movie.
Still, whatever he netted, it was likely a pretty large sum- more than enough to keep his career occupied, as you suggested.
