JIYEH, Lebanon, July 28 As Israel continues the bombing campaign that has turned parts of Lebanon into rubble, environmentalists are warning of widespread and lasting damage. Spilled and burning oil, along with forest fires, toxic waste flows and growing garbage heaps have gone from nuisances to threats to people and wildlife, they say, marring a country traditionally known for its clean air and scenic greenery. Continues ...

Media drink Hezbollah Kool-Aid, as "losing" side -- Israel -- widens control of southern Lebanon
Has the critics' response to Israel's response been disproportionate? Just now there is growing criticism that Israel's critics may have engaged in excessive use of forceful language, noting that criticism should have been balanced, or proportional. Retaliation from pundits against Israel for Israel's retaliation against Hezbollah has been relentless. But some pundits blame liberal Hezbloggers, who've hidden in underground bunkers reinforced with anonymity, noting that their decision to attack Israeli action pushed the entire liberal punditry into a war of words against Israel, a war it never wanted. Israel's critics are battling a tougher-than-expected Israel, with some analysts noting that despite scores of New York Times articles pounding Israel's position on Lebanon, such criticism has thus far failed to push Israel back or block its pounding of Hezbollah.
Since the liberal media mafia likes the idea of an immediate and one-sided ceasefire for Israel, how about one for the New York Times? In my proposal, the Times quits firing on Israel in exchange for . . . no incentives. Of course, no ceasefire will work without a solution to the root cause -- the libbies' desire to turn Jews into lampshades. Wait. Maybe I'm being disproportionate. Liberals DO seem willing to accept Jews -- but only when they're defenseless and under "restraint." As in the Holocaust.
In the couple of weeks since that Brutal Zionist Goliath has been 'bullying' the little, tiny, teensy-weensy Arab World, Islamists have kidnapped/bombed/shot/rocketed/murdered a total of 1,155 people in Somalia, Thailand, India, the Philippines, Pakistan, Chechnya, Afghanistan and Iraq. Moderate Islam on the march!
That's not all -- plenty more Islamic religious activity. On July 23, two Israelis are killed and 14 are wounded in a Hezbollah rocket attack, four days after "two (Israeli) brothers, ages 9 and 3, are blown apart by Hezbollah rockets in their front yard," wounding 9 others, which happened a day after an Israeli is killed by a Hezbollah missile as Hezbollah "fires multiple rockets into civilian areas," wounding 60 others, two days after "Palestinians" bombed "a group of Israeli soldiers in the West Bank, killing one," wounding 6, a day after "Hezbollah fired Iranian missiles at an Israeli city, killing eight residents," wounding 17, two days after "Hezbollah rockets kill an elderly woman and her 5-year-old grandson," wounding 3 others, including the boy's parents, a day after a "70-year-old woman is killed by a Hezbollah rocket," wounding 21. Gee, ain't Allah great?
At press time, these Islamic peaceniks have murdered or wounded almost 200 Israelis. Hezbollah and libbies at Daily Kos celebrate by dancing in the streets, as if this is some huge 'victory' -- '200 down, just 14 million Jews to go!'
Actually, now that it appears the well-armed and well-prepared Hezbollah "guerrillas" are getting the crap knocked out of them, they've lapsed into their usual wussery, whining that Jews are 'massacring' 'innocent civilians,' and begging the Great Satan, which Hezbollah says is run by the Little Satan, to make the Little Satan stop. Of course, an 'innocent civilian' in Lebanon is Hezbollah in faded Denim jeans and a T-shirt.
Hezbollah's simple 3-step system for fighting wars consists of (1) starting a fight, (2) getting your butt kicked (3) wailing because the other side hit back. Just like liberals. In the Arab-Israeli "context," the pattern is familiar: Some Nazislamic group operating from Ratholeistan kidnaps/shoots/bombs/rockets the Jews; the Jews respond by turning the Nazislamic group into fine, decaffeinated powdery material; the "innocent" "civilians" sheltering the Nazislamic group in Ratholeistan are "stunned" that the Jews fight back 'disproportionately' to kidnappings/shootings/bombings/rocketings launched from Ratholeistan by attacking Ratholeistan. Instead of, say, Sweden.
From that other Hezbollah stronghold, the Washington Post, this: "Images from Beirut, where the destruction has turned some southern neighborhoods into piles of rubble, show the uncanny exposures of war." After two weeks of "barbaric destruction," sadly, CNN's bureau STILL remains intact.
Sooooo, the Jihidiot whining and complaining, summed up, goes something like this: The Ruthless Zionist Monster is stomping disproportionately on Hezbollah. Scratch that. The Ruthless Zionist Monster is afraid of Hezbollah and Hezbollah remains unstomped and heroic, thanks to a network of defensive structures called women and children. Allah be praised!
The 'argument' by pundidiots in Washington goes something like this: The 'conflict' in Lebanon is World War III and the U.S. has given Israel two weeks to wrap up World War III, or World War III becomes a wider conflict -- WORLD WAR! Besides, Israeli action only 'emboldens' Hezbollah. If you're not careful, Hezbollah may try something really bold -- like cross the border and kidnap Israeli soldiers!
The liberals' model of waging war with "restraint" must be that of Clinton's war against that well-known global terror mastermind, Slobodan Milosevic. Under Clinton's policy of restraint, schools, hospitals, buses and the Chinese Embassy were bombed. Clinton then blamed his restraint on outdated CIA maps.
With the main arteries to Syria bombed and Hezbollah unable to resupply as Israeli forces take over key Hezbollah strongholds, it's no surprise that the losing side -- Hezbollah, liberals, the New York Times -- wants a ceasefire. And demand that Israel engage in a dialogue. This would be akin to Bush inviting Osama to Crawford for talks. A preposterous idea -- we all know 9/11 was the work of Halliburton. And Wal-Mart.
Most of these ceasefire proposals center around setting up an interim multinational force in southern Lebanon, building on the failed interim multinational force now in southern Lebanon. For 28 years, southern Lebanon has had an interim multinational force, the grand idea being to provide "stability" in the area. The fierce Stabilizers allowed Iran's little "stabilizing" force in Lebanon, known as 'Hezbollah,' 'stabilize' a network of underground bunkers and amass forces and arsenal on Israel's northern border after Israel withdrew from Lebanon in 2000. Armed with this knowledge, Kofi Annan is pushing for more stabilizers. That'll break the will of Hezbollah!
All of which is a lot of Hezbull. Let the IDF finish off Hezbollah, and you won't need an international force. That's the Bush strategery. Even as Condi arrived in Lebanon, Bush was speeding up delivery to Israel of satellite and laser-guided bombs to whack Hez. Her trip was the perfect cover. Hez and hers.
Israel hasn't given southern Lebanon a moonscape make-over yet to give the civilian locals time to get out of dodge. By holding back firepower, and by planting 'Israel-fears-battle-hardened-Hezbollah' stories in the press, Israel lures "emboldened" Hezbollah into The Trap. It's a beautiful thing. To the IDF, I say, Happy Hunting, boys!
Anyway, that's...
My Two Cents...

Have a great weekend, y'all. God bless.
New motto for Lebanon: "Lebanon the Leveled"
Hezbollah's simple 3-step system for fighting wars consists of (1) starting a fight, (2) getting your butt kicked (3) wailing because the other side hit back.
ain't it so true ....
When I first read "Casualties of War: Lebanon's Trees, Air, and Sea," I thought it was some propaganda rant by an official mouthpiece of Hezbollah. Then I saw that it was from the New York Times.
I was right!
and Usrael is not suffering the same thing? Bullshiite!
Hope you have a lovely weekend, too.
I do hope this gets wide publication." Israel kills a tree.
Arab league sues United States for not re-planting foliage out of war path".
The Pagan lobby is upset.
Can you say totally psychotic New York Times.
Well done, JH2!
The Arabs always celebrate there victories will they're still on the field of battle. There's something wrong with those boys.
Alright....we're a couple of weeks into this conflict and we have to hear this tripe? What about the decades-long civil war the Lebanese fought among themselves? Give me a f-ing break.
Eat hot HTML, NYT.
I salute your brilliance! You might find this interesting

LOL! Perfect. :)
Fantastic article, btw. Very insightful and right on the money, it seems to me.
New poll out on Fox this morning stating that 87% of Lebanon supports hezzbuttholla. If this is true, 87% of Lebanon needs killing!
muzzie in Seattle (in support of hezz) opened fire on Jews in a building. This being reported on Fox as I type this. Appeasers tell me again about the "religion of peace"?

Hey-I went to high school with a Hassan M Fattah- er,no, wait-that was Steve Ratner.

You're spot on with this article. Love the cynicism.

New York Times Story on UN Position Hit by Israel Omits Crucial Context
A July 27 article in the New York Times about four UN officers killed in an outpost hit by Israeli fire ("U.N. Says It Protested to Israel for 6 Hours During Attack That Killed 4 Observers in Lebanon" by Warren Hoge), omitted crucial context about Hezbollah firing from or near UN positions. By contrast, the Associated Press reported that "U.N. officials said Hezbollah militants had been operating in the area of the post near the eastern end of the border with Israel, a routine tactic to prevent Israel from attacking them."
The Times article cited UN assistant secretary general for peacekeeping operations Jane Holl Lute saying "no Hezbollah activity was reported in the area" at the time, and suggested that all the firing near UNIFIL positions in recent days was from Israels side:
Firing continued during the rescue operation despite repeated requests to the I.DF. for an abatement," she [Ms. Lute] said, speaking of the Israeli Defense Forces.
She said that Unifil had reported 145 incidents of "close firings" in recent days with several patrol bases taking direct hits and sustaining damage to buildings, equipment and vehicles.
But according to a July 18 email from Major Paeta Hess-von Kruedener, one of the officers killed at the UNs Khiam outpost on July 25, this was certainly not the case. In his report, published on CTVs website, Kruedener asserted:
Team Sierra is currently observing both IDF/IAF and Hezbollah military clashes from our vantage point which has a commanding view of the IDF positions on the Golan mountains to our east and the IDF positions along the Blue Line to our south, as well as, most of the Hezbollah static positions in and around our patrol Base. It appears that the lion's share of fighting between the IDF and Hezbollah has taken place in our area. On the night of 16 July, at 2125 hrs, a large firefight broke out between the Hezbollah and the IDF near a village called Majidyye and lasted for one hour and 40 minutes....
...we have on a daily basis had numerous occasions where our position has come under direct or indirect fire from both artillery and aerial bombing. The closest artillery has landed within 2 meters of our position and the closest 1000 lb aerial bomb has landed 100 meters from our patrol base. This has not been deliberate targeting, but has rather been due to tactical necessity.[emphasis added]
And Retired Canadian Major General Lewis Mackenzie explained in an interview with CBC that Major Kruedener had sent emails indicating that Hezbollah soldiers were "all over his position." He said:
We received emails from him a few days ago, and he was describing the fact that he was taking fire within, in one case, three meters of his position for tactical necessity, not being targeted. Now thats veiled speech in the military. What he was telling us was Hezbollah soldiers were all over his position and the IDF were targeting them. And thats a favorite trick by people who dont have representation in the UN. They use the UN as shields knowing that they cant be punished for it.
It is equally clear from UNIFIL press releases over the past week that there was firing near and around UN positions in recent days. According to the releases, Hezbollah opened fire on a UNIFIL convoy, and repeatedly shot from the area of UN positions. In fact, one unarmed UN observer was seriously wounded by Hezbollah fire. For example:
From July 20: "Hezbollah firing was also reported from the immediate vicinity of the UN positions in Naqoura and Maroun Al Ras areas at the time of the incidents (Israeli firing)."
From July 24: "One unarmed UN military observer, a member of the Observer Group Lebanon (OGL), was seriously wounded by small arms fire in the patrol base in the Marun Al Ras area yesterday afternoon. According to preliminary reports, the fire originated from the Hezbollah side during an exchange with the IDF."
From July 25: "This morning, Hezbollah opened small arms fire at a UNIFIL convoy consisting of two armored personnel carriers (APC) on the road between Kunin and Bint Jubayl. There was some damage to the APCs, but no casualties, and the convoy was obliged to return to Kunin."
From July 26: "Another UN position of the Ghanaian battalion in the area of Marwahin in the western sector was also directly hit by one mortar round from the Hezbollah side last night. The round did not explode, and there were no casualties or material damage. Another 5 incidents of firing close to UN positions from the Israeli side were reported yesterday. It was also reported that Hezbollah fired from the vicinity of four UN positions at Alma ash Shab, Tibnin, Brashit, and At Tiri."
Why did the New York Times ignore this key information?
You forgot Myanmar, Nigeria, Sudan, Côte d'Ivoire, Liberia, the Central African Republic, Eritrea, Kenya, and soon Tanzania. We are losing in Africa as the left continues to abet Islam in implementing the Brezhnev doctrine.
If Jesus walked on water, their headline would be "Savior Can't Swim".
that is also SOOOOOOOOO TYPICAL of the DY mainSLIME media! (they are, imVho, just as much SCUM as hezbollah.)
i'd bet you aren't on the same side as the media "trendy lefties", either! (btw, is this another case of ANTI-Semitism on the part of the DAMNyankee elites???? DYs are NOTORIOUS for antisemitism.)

"Of course, no ceasefire will work without a solution to the root cause -- the libbies' desire to turn Jews into lampshades."
Oh,MAN. That's sticking the knife in the Libbie's ribcage and twisting it!
One of your best, IMHO, John. Were I magic, it would be e-mailed to the Clymers and all employees and readers of the al-Times, indeed, to all the MSM. And the Rats and left. Just to bunch their panties to know that times have changed and a whole lot of us are onto them. Have a wonderful weekend, good sir....
That'll leave a mark.

You are among the best writers on FR, you know that?
The Wall Street Journal this morning has a front page article titled "Iraqi Abductors Find Deep Pockets in U.S.". Apparently it's now commonplace for "militants" to kidnap Iraqi Christians and demand ransom money from their relatives living abroad.
To the IDF, I say, Happy Hunting, boys!

Love it John. Wussery, punditiots, hezbull.... lots of new words for my dictionary!
They keep their eyes and ears closed so they do not notice that the messages are getting out in spite of their efforts.
I am waiting to learn the chain of command of the UNOFIL that left those UN "observers" in the middle of a battle. Not holding my breath, but I have faith in General Lewis Mackenzie not to let this drop.
Thank God they don't bow to media pressure. God bless 'em!
Thanks for the ping. Great essay.
