Beirut march marks (1996) Qana bombing (Note the dates)
AlJazeera ^ | April 27 | Staff

About 2,000 children have marched through the streets of Beirut armed with fake rockets in a rally organised by Hezbollah to mark the anniversary of a deadly Israeli bombardment 10 years ago.

Rows of boys wearing military fatigues and red berets marched with mock Katyushas on their shoulders on Thursday in memory of the Israeli bombing of a UN base in Qana in southern Lebanon on April 18, 1996, that killed 105 people.

Girls in white head-to-toe chadors carried effigies of blood-stained white doves bearing the names of several southern villages where civilians have been killed in Israeli shellings over the past decade.

Lebanese civilians had taken refugee at the UN base in Qana during Israel's "Grapes of Wrath" offensive aimed at wiping out the Shia Hezbollah movement and stopping strikes on its territory.

UN report

Israel said the bombing was a mistake but a UN report concluded it was probably deliberate.

"Removing the arms of the resistance is removing the strength of Lebanon," read one placard carried by the children, referring to a 2004 UN Security Council Resolution which calls for the disarmament of all militias in Lebanon.

Israel pulled its troops out of southern Lebanon in May 2000 after a 22-year occupation in the face of a guerrilla campaign by the Iranian and Syrian-backed Hezbollah.

The group remains the only Lebanese movement with an armed wing in defiance of the terms ending Lebanon's 1975-1990 civilwar. It is considered a terrorist organisation by the United States, which accuses it of the bombing the US marine barracks in Beirut in 1983 that killed 241 US marines.

This is about an April 18, 1996 bombing of Qana. Seems Hezballah has been there a LONG time, and they have used the town for PR before.

Further proof that those were victims of Hezbollah, not Israel.

Israel is going to have to sterilize that region to prevent re-infection.

How appropriately staged by Hezbollah, all part of their elaborate plans to have their own people killed in order to sway world opinion against Israel. I would assume Israeli intelligence is at above maximum monitoring the borders of Lebanon during this calculated 48 hour lapse during which weapons will be transferred over the borders for rearming the murderers. I pray then the Israelis will immediately thereafter step up the bombings assuming they can prove to the world these so called innocent people were set up by the continued treachery of the muslim hordes. Maybe I'm naive, however if they haven't already, Israel needs to send drones with live feed cameras to video these transfers from Syria, and better yet from Iran to show the world. Although I suspect most of these weapons are supplied during the night in disguised vehicles.

Regardless, maybe highly specialized Israeli mobile units can be dropped in to attack and capture these transfers deep in Lebanon would even be better, but I guess I'm expecting too many miracles...but that is what is needed and the Israelis throughout history have had one helluva direct line to God at certain times when in need. This is one of those urgently needed Divine interventions. God, are you listening to your Jews, and Christians, too, who are praying for your help in this matter? Please respond...hurry, please.

I firmly believe Hezbollah wanted a repeat of the 1996 bombing in order to sway public opinion. And it's worked. Israel is now apparently going to suspend airstrikes.

"About 2,000 children have marched through the streets of Beirut armed with fake rockets..."

Wonder if they told them to take them home and leave them out in the yard ?

It is the only way they can force the liberal bleeding heart international community to stop Israel now that the hezzis have started the war they cannot win in battle. Hezboallah is a terrorists organization more than willing to toss children into bombable sites and bait the Israelis to fire on it ... and if the Israelis don't get it done (there was a many hours interval between the bombs and the revelation of the site) then Hezboallah will murder the children and call in the dutiful alphabet networks to report the atrocity as an Israeli war crime.

It never ceases to amaze me that media whoredom believes these murderers so easily when they have been proven repeatedly to create these atrocities for propaganda purposes! Instead of the Qana tragedy inciting the West to stop Israel, this should demand that we aid Israel in any way possible to get this done more quickly and for a permanent extermination of the hezboallah vermin destroying Lebanon.

Sounds good to me. Kill the breeders so they can't raise anymore. I know that sounds awful, but I'm personally sick of this crap. We should have taken Iran out in 1979 and Saddam out in 1991. Cut the head of the snake now, not when I have grandchildren. Quit putting off the inevitable. These people need to die now, not later after they have killed millions more.

We are fighting evil here, all of us are involved whether we want to be or not. Here's the test, what are we all willing to sacrifice? Did our grandparents or parents think of themselves first or future generations of Americans. I want to see many more generations of a free America. I will not bow down to Islam!!!!!!

Rant off.

Bin Laden mention Qana in his declaration of war (August 23, 1996): "It should not be hidden from you that the people of Islam had suffered from aggression, iniquity and injustice imposed on them by the Zionist-Crusaders alliance and their collaborators; to the extent that the Muslims blood became the cheapest and their wealth as loot in the hands of the enemies. Their blood was spilled in Palestine and Iraq. ***** The horrifying pictures of the massacre of Qana, in Lebanon are still fresh in our memory. ***** Massacres in Tajakestan, Burma, Cashmere, Assam, Philippine, Fatani, Ogadin, Somalia, Erithria, Chechnia and in Bosnia-Herzegovina took place, massacres that send shivers in the body and shake the conscience. All of this and the world watch and hear, and not only didn't respond to these atrocities, but also with a clear conspiracy between the USA and its' allies and under the cover of the iniquitous United Nations, the dispossessed people were even prevented from obtaining arms to defend themselves."

From my reading, it seems Qana is a name well known to Muslims in the ME. It helps explain why this caused so much "spontaneous" rage. Also interesting that this occurred when Sec Rice was meeting with Israel. I think this all seems to good to be true for Hezballah.

Forget the dates..."armed with fake rockets" and "organized by Hezbollah" is all the information we really need to know.

"They are killing their own and blaming Israel."

A few of us have been saying this for over 30 years. Getting someone who counts to LISTEN is the hard part.

Well, isn't that interesting. I saw another poster mention Qana II but I didn't understand the reference. Thanks.

I may get rapped but those poor children who died in the the bombing would most likely be raised to hate Israel and become future suicide bombers; that is how many of them are recruited if a family member is killed attacking IDF forces, they seek revenge later in life, how sad that a mother would allow their children to aspire to this act
