My oldest leaves Ohio for Indiana in about two weeks.

Why Indiana? 'Cause that's where Notre Dame is. :)

Stanford, for instance, caught a lot of flak for buying a $10,000 antique toilet.

That would have been an antique Italian commode.

And IIRC, Rep. Cunningham had a similar item in his collection of
ill-gained loot.

I guess I'm deficient in high-class fraud smarts...but what sort of
siren songs do antique Italian commodes sing to high-roller crooks and
money-crazed academics?
I just don't get it.
Maybe the things have bronze plates proudly claiming that "Casanova sat here".

The Meadowlands are actually fascinating.

The fires in the landfill burned for years because local fire departments wouldn't let their guys fight the blaze out of fear of what was burning.

More interesting, Secaucus was home to huge pig farms. Waste from restaurants and hotels would be shipped to Jersey for feed and bacon, etc. shipped back to NYC. However, the slop was not always just slop and pig farms typically had entire sets of china and silverware from the Waldorf, Plaza and other fancy hotels.

NJ, NY and NE as a whole are excellent places to live and work.

Heck, so much so I wish you all would stay up there!

NJ,
I think you confused my post with the one that posted pictures of an industrial site. That was not me.

To establish my credentials...

1. I was born in NJ
2. I lived there for great portions of my life
3. My family lives there and I visit all the time
4. I vacation there
5. I live in a neighboring state.

Your post ignored what I actually wrote... all of which is true. I refer you to my earlier post.

Philly is historic all right. Used to be great. Now people flee each year, they raise taxes, prevent school choice, etc. It is largely run down. I drive through there all the time. Chunks of concrete will fall off bridges and hit your car if you come at the wrong time.

All that aside, the Jersey shore is very nice.

Ohio residents are over taxed. College costs here are skyrocketing. Retirees get no extra benefits. Am trying to figure out why I'm still here.....
