Gibson inspired by 'fear-mongering' Bush (Flashback: Gibson Part of Hollywood Bush Hate Contingent)
Yahoo ^ | May 12, 2006

Posted on 07/31/2006 12:00:03 PM PDT by MikeA

Film star and director Mel Gibson has launched a scathing attack on US President George W Bush, comparing his leadership to the barbaric rulers of the Mayan civilisation in his new film Apocalypto.

The epic, due for release later this year, captures the decline of the Maya kingdom and the slaughter of thousands of inhabitants as human sacrifices in a bid to save the nation from collapsing.

Gibson reveals he used present day American politics as an inspiration, claiming the government callously plays on the nation's insecurities to maintain power.

He tells British film magazine Hotdog, "The fear-mongering we depict in the film reminds me of President Bush and his guys".

I suspect what he is is a human being, who sometimes says stupid things, and who may even think stupid things. I think it's enlightening to know that he's been battling alcoholism. He may be a jerk, I don't have a clue since I've never met him. I like alot of his movies, and he seems like a good family man.
I can actually disagree with someone profoundly without demonizing them. I wonder why so many people can't do that?

There are not a few rad-trads (radical traditionalists) on the extreme Catholic Right who are tinged, if not suffused, with Antisemitism and who also opppose Bush and the response to Islam's war on the West.

Mel had his own Chapel built in California, and he has his own vagus priest and he is not in Communion with the Catholic Church or his own Bishop and Pope. He is not amused by Vatican Two :)

He has made a lot of good movies and he has many admirable qualities but his ideas about Jews and Bush can not be wished away or sloughed-off with vague "I apologize to anyone who was offended" blanket apologies.

Hollywood ARE Mel. They'll give him a medal, especial from liberal Jews. (which makes no sense to me)

Sigh. I am sad and embarrassed once again to admit I admired someone who didn’t deserve it. Add Mel Gibson to Senator McCain on the list of those I use to admire. How can a man who had the moral Christian courage to create “The Passion” be so anti-semitic and such a liberal dunce?

Maybe so, but it's perfectly ok to be anti-zionist and anti-neocon

-----------------------------------------

Much of liberal Jewish Hollywood (Reiner, Streisand, that ilk) is anti-Zionist. It is Conservative Jews (those here included) who will declare anyone who questions Zionism to be raving anti-semites.

Any anti-Bush remarks must have been made when he was drunk.

That means he didn't mean it. (sarc)

This new movie is actually Mel's apology to Hollywood for making The Passion of the Christ.

Transparently so.

I wondered too if as you suggest Gibson is part of the Buchananite lunatic brigade.

I'd like to hear Mel's side of these stories, not just the press characterization of him.

I bet you they will forgive Mel for it. These days, the Jews in Hollywood aren't really Jews. They're liberals, who happen to be of Jewish ancestry. And, since Jew-hating is fashionable amongst liberals these days, they'll probably follow the trend as well.
