Charlie Crist Let My Daughter Die

by Robert Schindler, Sr. Posted Jul 31, 2006

As most Americans know, on March 31, 2005, my daughter, Terri Schindler Schiavo died of starvation and thirst after having her feeding tube removed by court order. The sad chain of events that concluded with Terri’s death ignited a media firestorm nationally and internationally. What few saw or heard was the callous inaction of aspiring governor Charlie Crist.

Florida Atty. Gen. Charlie Crist let my daughter die. He had it within his authority to save her life, but he turned a blind eye to her suffering. Even worse, he worked to ensure her death.

Terri lived in a neurologically compromised state for reasons that are still unknown, and my family wanted nothing more than permission to care for Terri for the span of her natural life. We were denied.

My daughter tenaciously fought for her life for more than 13 days after being deprived of the most basic, natural and constant need that we all share—the need for nourishment—food and water. Terri was not on a respirator, nor terminally ill. She was not dying, nor succumbing to a dreadful disease. She was disabled. She was dependent on others, but still very much a life, a woman, and a person.

Over the course of several years, our family, our lawyers, and our friends pleaded for help from local, county, and state police and regulatory agencies with constitutional and statutory authority to investigate the many sworn statements of extreme abuse and neglect suffered by our daughter.

Hoping to save my daughter’s life, our family sought the help of Attorney General Charlie Crist. Not only did Charlie Crist refuse our family lawful access to the assets of his office, but he violated his oath of office by actively cooperated with those in positions of political and judicial authority whom denied us legal access to the police and regulatory systems meant to protect the weak. Multiple sworn agents from responsible police and regulatory agencies who found probable cause to investigate allegations of abuse in Terri's judicial and physical care, were ordered to shut down those probes. This heavy-handedness made us powerless.

Information of direct interest to Attorney General Charlie Crist's office was directly delivered to his personal hands, and he refused to properly execute the duties of his office. And it was with deliberate decision that he failed to attend a scheduled Tallahassee meeting with our family. On another occasion, we approached each other by chance. Upon recognizing me, Charlie Crist abruptly stopped and walked away.

That callous action encapsulates Charlie Crist. He walked away from a man whose daughter’s fate he controlled. At that moment, he turned his back on Terri. And he turned his back on the most fundamental duties of his office.

It is quite clear that Charlie Crist, to this day, has demonstrated no public affection for the cause of life, or Christianity, or any set of core values. He has been posturing to become governor for decades. With each voting audience he has crafted a message based on the expediency of the moment.

To add insult to injury, at a recent banquet, our alleged pro-life candidate for the Governor of Florida said the following about Judge George Greer and other judges involved in the death of my daughter, "You are heroes to all of us, and your defense of the judiciary and what is right is beyond admirable."

Through his actions, Charlie Crist has demonstrated that he has no regard for our most vulnerable citizens, the high duties of public office, or life itself. Charlie Crist’s celebration of the merciless judges who condemned Terri to death speaks to his true character.

"Everywhere except in the polls."

Actually Gallagher is not that far behind, and conservatives can help Gallagher by writing letters to editors, calling talk shows, and of course, posting to get the facts out.

SOCIAL CONSERVATIVE LEADERS UNITE BEHIND TOM GALLAGHER

ORLANDO – Dennis Baxley, State Representative and Chair of the Social Conservatives for Gallagher Steering Committee, today participated in a statewide conference call of several high profile social conservative leaders on topics ranging from abortion and adoption to the marriage amendment and the expansion of gambling. The Social Conservatives for Gallagher are continuing to build grassroots support for Tom Gallagher’s campaign among values voters in the upcoming election.

“I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of support we have received from Florida’s families and social conservatives. Our next Governor must have a clear and concise vision to expand on Jeb Bush’s conservative leadership of our state,” said Tom Gallagher. “I have taken clear stands and laid out specific policy proposals on social conservative issues such as same sex marriages, abortion and adoption. As Governor, I will continue to stand on our conservative principles and values.”

“Florida needs a governor who will take a strong stand for Florida’s families. The only acceptable candidate for governor is Tom Gallagher,” said Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel. “He is the only candidate who has consistently and unequivocally taken pro-family positions on abortion, same-sex marriage and homosexual adoption.”

Tom Gallagher is the only candidate for Governor of Florida who is running a campaign consistent with the core values of the Republican Party. Tom Gallagher is pro-life and will advocate for laws to limit the number of abortions in Florida. Tom Gallagher will work to encourage and increase the number of adoptions in our state through expanding the One Church One Child Program, and opposes gay adoption. Moreover, Tom Gallagher is the only candidate for governor with a 100% pro-life voting record and who has been consistent in his support for an amendment to Florida’s constitution defending marriage as the union between a man and a woman.

“The Republican Party needs a candidate that upholds the principle that every human being, born or unborn, young or old, healthy or disabled, has a fundamental, individual right to life. There is no question that Tom Gallagher is the right candidate to defend our values,” said Barbara Collier, Chairman of the Broward Christian Coalition. “As a father and a family man, Tom has stood with us to defend innocent life, oppose the redefinition of marriage and promote the values that make our families stronger.”

The social conservative leaders (Organizations listed are for identification purposes only) participating on today’s call are as follows:

Dennis Baxley, State Representative; John Stemberger; Anita Staver, Liberty Counsel; Carole Griffin, Eagle Forum; Barbara Collier, Reclaiming America; Bob Touchston, Florida Right to Life; Pam Olsen, Bush-Cheney ‘04

Other Social Conservative leaders who are supporting Tom Gallagher but were unable to participate on today’s conference call:

Susan Cutaia, Citizens for Science and Ethics; Pat Neal, Chairman of the Board for the Christian Colition of Florida; Mat Staver, Liberty Counsel

FV SAYS: At an early organizational mtg, we learned that Tom Gallagher is Catholic and his wife attended Notre Dame. I would think Florida Catholics would be signing on to support Tom Gallagher. His wife Laura leads a major women's prayer group.

Charlie Crist has never said exactly what his faith is. If he wants to be a leader, he should be forthcoming about his beliefs before the primary. Private citizen - quite possibly it's none of my business but constituents have a right to know a candidate's beliefs.

Judge Whittemore defied Congress when he refused to allow Terri water and nutrition. He refused to hold a de novo hearing too which is what he was supposed to do. That is why Tom Delay blew a gasket. Judge Whittemore made sure that Terri never got another droplet of water or any Ensure from the day her feeding tube was removed until the day she died.

Judge Whittemore, HOWEVER, is looking out for Bucanneer football fans. He ruled that pat-downs under Homeland Security guidelines were unconstitutional. Brutally killing someone as they killed Terri Schiavo is okay by him but football fans must be protected by the constitution! Remember when the Roman Empire through the Christians to the lions in the colliseum. I'm just sayin' sounds like contemporary Florida to me.

Madonna blasphemes the Cross and Jesus Christ in her show. Is it excommunication time for her? I thought she was into kaballah anyway.

Judge Greer may finally be in hot water. Stay tuned. Keep your fingers and toes crossed. Maybe Rep. Dave Simmons is keeping his promise about impeaching Greer??? Remember George Greer is Charlie Crist's buddy. Since Greer was hailed by Charlie Crist as a hero, don't count on the investigation to be done by primary day. Imagine Crist explaining how his murderous hero friend, with his local cronies helping, cheated in his judicial election and it led to Terri's murder.

All Crist could do is disavow Judge Greer which he can't because the Semblers have a strange hold on Greer and crist. Those Semblers may be rich but they are pushy rich, not benevolent rich imo.

see re: Greer. (It's either another Terri coverup or a real investigation which is typical in Fla.)

Re-posting recent email to Dave Simmons, Fla Judiciary Committee:

I am your Constitutent in re: your position on the Judiciary Committee. I am still waiting for you to take action to impeach Judge Greer.

How can you sleep at night with a criminal on the bench pulling $140K a year and bennies?

Many people know that Florida accommodates corrupt, activist judges. PAUL TIMMERMAN reports that you were thinking about impeaching Judge Greer. Please think harder. By the time you make up your mind, he will be retiring on my dime. Even old guys don't get a pass if they have broken the law. Not even the well connected Judge Greer.

http://www.judgegeorgegreer.com/

Will you defend the Constitution or corrupt judges?????? PLEASE VISIT XXX, READ about Greer's latest pass on his lawlessness. At XXX, scroll down AND LOOK AT JUDGE GREER'S 2004 TV COMMERCIAL. This is an exact duplicate of his commercial. Judge Greer should have been disqualified from the 2004 election but since the JQC consists of his cronies, they didn't bat an eye at ANY complaints registered w/them and if you checked with them now, they have had ample time to shred & delete if you will.

Please save it all on a floppy disk and study xxx's article carefully. Please download the tv commercial. If you want the "original", SUBPOENA ME AND I WILL GLADLY TURN IT OVER TO YOU.

Do something brave and honorable.

IMPEACH JUDGE GEORGE GREER. Thank you.

Florida politics dominate the news this morning...

Crist, the state attorney general, also has antagonized the Right to Life community by staying out of last year's Terri Schiavo debate, saying the state had no place to interfere with court rulings that allowed the removal of a feeding tube from the severely brain-damaged woman, who later died.

Gallagher, Florida's chief financial officer, supported intervention efforts by the Legislature's Republican majority and Congress. He also was the lone gubernatorial candidate to take part in a Schiavo rally last year at the state Capitol.

Crist further distanced himself from social conservatives by breaking with President Bush over his veto last month of legislation allowing federal funding of advanced embryonic stem-cell research, a veto Gallagher applauded.

On the dem side...

He also said he was the one who put a bipartisan coalition together to keep the state out of the Terri Schiavo case for the second time. Both Republican senators from Polk, Sens. Paula Dockery of Lakeland and J.D. Alexander of Lake Wales, were in Smith's coalition, Smith said.

"Let's face it. The next governor, even a Democrat, will have to deal with a Republican Senate and House. It has to be someone with a proven track record of consensus building," he said.

Meanwhile, Democratic voters face a choice between two little-known candidates who differ little on the issues. Both want to invest more money in schools and attract more teachers with better pay. Both talk up their leadership fighting intervention in the Terri Schiavo case, and both say they have a knack for reaching across party lines to get things done.

Electoral math hurts Smith's primary chance

The shadow follows Lieberman...

"I don't think we want Washington, D.C. to be a club for career politicians," Lamont said during a recent interview with editors at Hometown Publications.

Lamont, 52, said three key issues inspired him to challenge Lieberman in the Aug. 8 Democratic primary: the Terri Schiavo case, Alaska's "Bridge to Nowhere," and the government's failure to change its stance on the war in Iraq.

Democrat Edward M. "Ned" Lamont may have been a relatively unknown, small-town politician a year ago. But many in the state now know him as David taking on Goliath.
