For those who don't know, the multi-million dollar beach homes on Dauphin Island have been badly damaged during the most recent series of hurricanes. It has been the subject of several recent news expose's about federal and insurance company spending to rebuild the homes and infrastructure there, some for the fourth and fifth time. Shelby like all politicians knows that bringing home the federal bacon results in votes. The fact that the bacon is coming from the pocketbooks of people who were smart enough (or perhaps honest enough) not to build their homes on barrier islands can't get in the way of buying votes.

BTW, should the federal government be paying for an advertising campaign for "Wild American" shrimp?

This article doesn't mention the $20 million that is designated for a new NOAA center to be placed in the maritime museum on the waterfront of downtown Mobile...the maritime museum that was under 14 feet of water during Katrina.

BTW Small-L, when did Dauphin Island get a newspaper. I'm just north of them and didn't know it.

I didn't know there were any multi-million dollars homes on Dauphin Island. The whole place was so quite and a bit run down.

I sure miss that place though. Is the Gulf Breeze still standing?
