Murtha issues statement on lawsuit
Johnstown, PA - Congressman John Murtha today released the following statement about a lawsuit filed by a Marine Corps staff sergeant charged in the incident at Haditha in November 2005. An Associated Press story filed earlier this morning said that evidence collected in Haditha supports accusations that U.S. Marines deliberately shot 24 civilians, including unarmed women and children.
I dont blame the staff sergeant for lashing out. When I spoke up about Haditha, my intention was to draw attention to the horrendous pressure put on our troops in Iraq and to the cover-up of the incident.
Our troops are caught in the middle of a tragic dilemma. The military trains them to fight a conventional war and use overwhelming force to protect U.S. lives. I agree with that policy, but when we use force, we often kill civilians. What are the consequences?
Three years ago, there were fewer than 500 foreign fighters in Iraq. They were called dead enders. Then there were 5,000, and they were called terrorists. Now there are 20,000, and the administration calls this sectarian violence.
All this time, weve had at least 130,000 U.S. troops on the ground in Iraq. In the last year, incidents have increased from 49 per day to 100 per day. About 14,000 Iraqis were killed in the last year, mostly in the last six months. Oil and electricity production are below pre-war level, and unemployment is 60 percent throughout most of the country. Our troops are in 120-degree temperatures with 70 pounds of equipment on their back, and they dont know who the enemy is.
This conflict cannot be won militarily. Our troops are caught in the middle of a civil war. Its well beyond the time to redeploy from Iraq.
If you wish to be added to the IREY/Murtha ping list, let me know!
.
"What are the consequences?"
Well John, in this country, the consequences of public slander is a lawsuit.
What coverup? This buffoon put the story out before the investigation had even been completed. He just couldn't wait for the proper legal process to take place.
Notice that he didn't deny slandering the Marines, he said what he did was for the good of our military and country. What a despicable man.
Support Diana Irey, Vets4Irey and BootMurtha and help retire Murtha.

Murtha just keeps digging in. He should just shut up. He got the golden microphone and along with the disgust of the military and Americans, he has a lawsuit. Some people just can't shut up.
Jack Murtha really is Diana Irey's most valuable weapon. (Although Free Republic is a close second!)
well irey sure is alot easier on the eyes than that dog murtha
"He should just shut up."
Not until November. :)
He is suing for, I would assume, much more than $75,000. The $75,000 is listed because it is the jurisdictional minimum for a suit in that court. The actual damages could be any amount above that.
Well, actually they DO know who their enemy is.
YOU are, Mr. Murtha!
The Democrats, the ENEMEDIA and the rest of the America hating crowd who are doing all they can to embolden the enemy and accuse our troops of wrong doing. Treating the enemy with kid gloves and having a defeatist attitude, are bigger enemies to our troops than the cowardly terrorists are!
ROTFL!...:-)
Wow! Innocent civilians get killed in wartime?? Who knew?!
Good thing we have Murtha there to let us know these military facts!!!
/sarc off
What a blithering traitor. Irey will win this thing, and I want to see the fat bastard prosecuted and hanged.
Dead civilians. This is war!
Mr. Cut and Run Murtha should be stripped of his self solicited medals.
Can you imagine that character being allowed a space at Arlington?
