AIR AMERICA LOSES ITS NYC STATION 1190 WLIB
Radio trade industry news | 8/2/2006 | Paul Strater

Posted on 08/02/2006 3:09:42 PM PDT by VideoPaul

This just in!

Err America radio, who has been paying WLIB-AM for 100% of its airtime, has lost its home. They found a new station, WWRL, has a transmitter located in New Jersey and is a 25kW datytime, 5kW nighttime station. The directional antenna patterns are very tight to the Southeast to cover NYC, with a lobe to the NW towards Paterson, NJ during the day that is eliminated at night.

WLIB is 30 kW daytime and 10kW nighttime, its daytime pattern similar to WWRL's but not as tight and with a lobe to the east that gets it into Long Island. WLIB's nighttime pattern is extremely broad to the NE, E and SE.

This will mean a massive loss of listeners in the NYC area as its station is far less in power, even moreso at night, and the pattern much more restrictive.

One can only wonder how much Err America is now paying for a far weaker signal.

Any viable, self-respecting syndicated radio show does NOT pay for its carriage on local stations. Broadcasters who have to pay for thei air time are referred to derisively in the industry as "brokers". This translates into "Pay us '$xxxx' and we'll put you on the air. The fact that Err America has has to pay for its airtime in NYC is an industry laughingstock for 2 1/2 years now.

I wasn't aware that WWRL had moved its transmitter, which used to rise 150 feet over 58 street in Woodside.Another problem is that WWRL is as far down the dial as you can get and its quite difficult to acquire if you are not in line of sight of its transmitter. I'm sure we're all broken up over this development.

Yeah, you can turn on CNN, MSNBC, NYSlimes, WAPO, or any other mainstream network and be force-fed the same crap as Err America.

Cable public access or public radio is the only place these bolsheviks can survive...the market has voted and only the government monopoly of force can keep them alive.

... Air America's latest is to play the sound of recorded gunshots being "fired" at the President of the United States.

The host of something called "The Randi Rhodes Show" laughed after the gunshots ended http://www.drudgereport.com/mattabt.htm.

If they're paying for the time - is the show a political ad?

I work about 1 hour south of NYC, and sometimes tune in WLIB on the way home just to hear what the libs are ranting about. Even though I'm just an hour away, the signal often cuts out, or there's so much static (in addition to that of the hosts') that it's difficult to hear what anyone is saying. Conversely, WABC, the NYC station that carries Rush and Sean Hannity has a signal so strong that you can drive down I-95 as far south as the Maryland border, and still get a good, clear signal.

You better explain that to the programs carried on WMCA like Dobson's Focus on the Family and others.
