Store clerk fatally shoots masked gunman (TX)
Fort Worth Star-Telegram ^ | August 2, 2006 | BILL MILLER

Posted on 08/02/2006 8:56:17 PM PDT by DaveLoneRanger

A clerk fatally shot a masked gunman in an exchange of gunfire at an east Dallas convenience store late Tuesday, police said.

Anthony Jerome Davis, 17, died at 12:43 a.m. at Baylor Medical Center of Dallas, said Senior Cpl. Janice Crowther, a Dallas police spokeswoman.

The shooting occurred at 9:32 p.m. Tuesday in the 300 block of St. Augustine Road, Crowther said.

``Apparently, this man came into the store wearing a mask,'' Crowther said. ``The store clerks realized immediately that they were about to be robbed, so they took cover behind the counters.

``The man said, `Don't run,' and fired a shot at one of the clerks.''

The clerk got his own gun, Crowther said, and fired back at Davis, fatally wounding him.

Crowther declined to give the clerk's name because he has not been charged with a crime. She noted, however, that the case would be reviewed by a Dallas County grand jury, which is routine.

Hm, the author (Bill Miller) was already a name in my docket of past names that Firefox keeps. I wonder if he's written about an armed citizen before?

I'd say wearing a mask (like a ski mask) in this kind of heat is definitely a clue something is not right.

I read the report and breathed a sigh of relief. At first, I thought the clerk had shot and killed The Lone Ranger. If it was only a young punk then, it just helps to clean up the gene pool.

An interesting observation reading these articles; actually almost all articles these days. It appears to me that "journalists" no longer refer to the race of those in the article. I can only assume that the pendulum has continued to swing even more towards greater PC.

The inevitable happened. It really is a shame, however, that the young thug didn't have parents or a church that could teach him right from wrong. He might have had a productive life.

Case closed.

I hope the perp had the courtesy to expire in an open area, rather than between the Slurpee machine and the counter, so the cops didn't have to strain themselves while drawing the chalk outline for the official report.

Apparently, this man came into the store wearing a mask ....

A proportional response would have been for the clerk to put on his own mask.

A proportional response would have been for the clerk to put on his own mask.

And then the second proportional response would have been to fire at the thug and miss. Better call Human Rights Watch; the clerk went too far! Oh wait. HRW would say the clerk should have given the thug the money and his life because the thug is only expressing his outrage at society. /s

It's unfortunate that this WASN'T inevitable. Scanning for armed citizen stories, one comes across many that do not tell of people who refused to be victims.

I honestly don't care what the race is, and I hold nothing against you by asking this, but I must ask, why do you care? I think it's a good thing that it doesn't mention race. Does it matter if it was a white man or a black man? Evil doesn't have a race.

I hate the fact that a 17 year old was shot but it could have been prevented by parents who were responsible and did there jobs as parents and wooped his ass when he did wrong. But you see liberals do not see things as we do they want to blame their enviornment, slavery and the fact that minimum wage is not raised.
I mean you have to get a license to drive and in some states a permit to own a gun but you can procreate all day long and have kids that the state and the federal government will have to deal with just like this situation. Sorry I will now step off of my soapbox.

It's not a bad soapbox IMO.

Nobody in their right mind WANTS another to die. It's far better to wish good life and health.

But, in this and most other cases that same wish goes to both parties, and when one wears a mask, takes property and threatens or does violence... Sucks to be him. ;)

Just think of all the money that clerk saved the city county and state. No outrageous hospital bills, no stupid trials and then appeals then cooping this perp up for life all of this could run into millions. But the Clerk saved all of that money with one ounce of lead... Hooray for the good guys.

I think the clerks were Korean....and for those who muse that if the parents of this punk would have done things that good parents do......you must be jesting. Perhaps one out of 25 might know who his Daddy is.....most are raised by a Grandmother...who may have been all of 35 by the time this boy was born.....we have about 3 throw away generations in the black communities now.....what a pity!!

"he shot at the clerk first? that would be a dead punk."

What disturbs me is the "grand jury" thing:
now an innocent law-abiding citizen is going to need to take time off work, hire a lawyer, and "defend" himself against the crime of... defending himself!

What they OUGHT to do is give him the day off with pay so he can go down to City Hall for Laura Miller to pin a medal on his chest!
