The New Left, Cultural Marxism, and Psychopolitics Disguised as Multiculturalism
The Sierra Times ^ | Thursday August 03, 2006 | Linda Kimball

There are two misconceptions held by many Americans. The first is that communism ceased to be a threat when the Soviet Union imploded. The second is that the New Left of the Sixties collapsed and disappeared as well. “The Sixties are dead,” wrote columnist George Will (Slamming the Doors, Newsweek, Mar. 25, 1991) Because the New Left lacked cohesion it fell apart as a political movement. However, its revolutionaries reorganized themselves into a multitude of single issue groups. Thus we now have for example, radical feminists, black extremists, anti-war ‘peace’ activists, animal rights groups, radical environmentalists, and ‘gay’ rights groups. All of these groups pursue their piece of the radical agenda through a complex network of subversive organizations such as the Gay Straight Lesbian Educators Network (GSLEN), the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), People for the American Way, United for Peace and Justice, Planned Parenthood, Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS), and Code Pink for Peace.

Both communism and the New Left are alive and thriving here in America. Code words by which they can be recognized are: tolerance, social justice, economic justice, peace, reproductive rights, sex education and safe sex, safe schools, inclusion, diversity, and sensitivity. All together, this is Cultural Marxism disguised as multiculturalism.

Birth of Multiculturalism

In anticipation of the revolutionary storm that would baptize the world in an inferno of red terror, leading to its rebirth as the promised land of social justice and proletarian equality—Frederich Engels wrote, “All the…large and small nationalities are destined to perish…in the revolutionary world storm… (A general war will) wipe out all…nations, down to their very names. The next world war will result in the disappearance from the face of the earth not only reactionary classes…but…reactionary peoples.” (The Magyar Struggle, Neue Rheinische Zeitung, Jan. 13, 1849)

By the end of WWI, socialists realized that something was amiss, for the world’s proletariat had not heeded Marx’s call to rise up in opposition to evil capitalism and to embrace communism instead. They wondered what had gone wrong.

Separately, two Marxist theorists—Antonio Gramsci of Italy and Georg Lukacs of Hungary—concluded that the Christianized West was the obstacle standing in the way of a communist new world order. The West would have to be conquered first.

Gramsci posited that because Christianity had been dominant in the West for over 2000 years, not only was it fused with Western civilization, but it had corrupted the workers class. The West would have to be de-Christianized, said Gramsci, by means of a “long march through the culture.” Additionally, a new proletariat must be created. In his “Prison Notebooks,” he suggested that the new proletariat be comprised of many criminals, women, and racial minorities.

The new battleground, reasoned Gramsci, must become the culture, starting with the traditional family and completely engulfing churches, schools, media, entertainment, civic organizations, literature, science, and history. All of these things must be radically transformed and the social and cultural order gradually turned upside-down with the new proletariat placed in power at the top.

In 1919, Georg Lukacs became Deputy Commissar for Culture in the short-lived Bolshevik Bela Kun regime in Hungary. He immediately set plans in motion to de-Christianize Hungary. Reasoning that if Christian sexual ethics could be undermined among children, then both the hated patriarchal family and the Church would be dealt a crippling blow, Lukacs--towards this end--launched a radical sex education program in the schools. Sex lectures were organized and literature handed out which graphically instructed youth in free love (promiscuity) and sexual intercourse while simultaneously encouraging them to deride and reject Christian moral ethics, monogamy, and parental and church authority. All of this was accompanied by a reign of cultural terror perpetrated against parents, priests, and dissenters.

Hungary’s youth, having been fed a steady diet of values-neutral (atheism) and radical sex education while simultaneously encouraged to rebel against all authority, easily turned into delinquents ranging from bullies and petty thieves to sex predators, murderers, and sociopaths.

Lukacs plans were the precursor to what Cultural Marxism in the guise of SIECUS, GSLEN, and the ACLU--acting as enforcer--later brought into American schools.

In 1923, the Frankfurt School—a Marxist think-tank—was founded in Weimar Germany. Among its founders were Georg Lukacs, Herbert Marcuse, and Theodor Adorno. The school was a multidisciplinary effort which included sociologists, sexologists, and psychologists.

The primary goal of the Frankfurt School was to translate Marxism from economic terms into cultural terms. Toward this end, Marcuse—who favored polymorphous perversion—expanded the ranks of Gramsci’s new proletariat by including homosexuals, lesbians, and transsexuals. Into this was spliced Lukacs radical sex education and cultural terrorism tactics. Gramsci’s ‘long march’ was added to the mix, and then all of this was wedded to Freudian psychoanalysis and psychological conditioning techniques. The end product was Cultural Marxism, known in the West as multiculturalism.

In 1950, the Frankfurt School augmented Cultural Marxism with Theodor Adorno’s idea of the ‘authoritarian personality.’ This concept is premised on the notion that Christianity, capitalism, and the traditional family create a character prone to racism and fascism. Thus, anyone who upholds America’s traditional moral values and institutions is both racist and fascist. Children raised by traditional values parents, we are told to believe, will almost certainly become racists and fascists. By extension, if fascism and racism are endemic to America’s traditional culture, then everyone raised in the traditions of God, family, patriotism, gun ownership, or free markets is in need of psychological help.

The pernicious influence of Adorno’s ‘authoritarian personality’ idea can be clearly seen in the following quote: “In Aug., 2003, the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and the National Science Foundation (NSF) announced the results of their $1.2 million tax-payer funded study. It stated, essentially, that traditionalists are mentally disturbed. Scholars from the Universities of Maryland, California at Berkeley, and Stanford had determined that social conservatives…suffer from ‘mental rigidity,’ ‘dogmatism,’ and ‘uncertainty avoidance,’ together with associated indicators for mental illness.” (www.edwatch.org ‘Social and Emotional Learning” Jan. 26, 2005) From this Orwellian quote we can see just how successful has been Gramsci’s ‘long march through the culture.’

The corresponding and diabolically crafted corrective idea is political correctness. The strong suggestion here is that in order for one not to be thought of as racist or fascist, then one must not only be nonjudgmental but must also embrace the ‘new’ moral absolutes: diversity, choice, sensitivity, sexual orientation, and tolerance. Political correctness is a Machiavellian psychological ‘command and control’ device. Its purpose is the imposition of uniformity in thought, speech, and behavior.

Critical theory is yet another psychological ‘command and control’ device. As stated by Daniel J. Flynn, “Critical Theory, as its name implies, criticizes. What deconstruction does to literature, Critical Theory does to societies.” (Intellectual Morons, p 15-16) Critical Theory is an ongoing and brutal assault via vicious criticism relentlessly leveled against Christians, Christmas, the Boy Scouts, Ten Commandments, our military, and all other aspects of traditional American culture and society.

Both political correctness and Critical Theory are in essence, psychological bullying. They are the psycho political battering rams by which Frankfurt School disciples such as the ACLU are forcing Americans to submit to and to obey the will and the way of the Left. These devious devices are but psychological versions of Georg Lukacs and Laventi Beria’s ‘cultural terrorism’ tactics. In the words of Beria, “Obedience is the result of force…Force is the antithesis of humanizing actions. It is so synonymous in the human mind with savageness, lawlessness, brutality, and barbarism, that it is only necessary to display an inhuman attitude toward people to be granted by those people the possessions of force.” (The Russian Manual on Psychopolitics: Obedience, by Laventi Beria, head of Soviet Secret Police and Stalin’s right-hand man)

Double-thinking ‘fence-sitters’, otherwise known as moderates, centrists, and RINOs are an obvious result of these psychological ‘obedience’ techniques. These people—afraid of incurring the wrath of name-calling obedience trainers--- have opted to straddle the fence lest they be found guilty of possessing an opinion, one way or another. At the merest hint of displeasure from the obedience-trainers, up goes the yellow flag of surrender upon which it is boldly written: “I believe in nothing and am tolerant of everything!”

The linchpin of Cultural Marxism is cultural determinism, the parent of identity politics and group solidarity. In its turn, cultural determinism was birthed by the Darwinian idea that man is but a soulless animal and therefore his identity is determined by for example, his skin color or his sexual and/or erotic preferences. This proposition rejects the concepts of the human spirit, individuality, free will, and morally informed conscience (paired with personal accountability and responsibility) because it emphatically denies the existence of the God of the Bible. Consequently, and by extension, it also rejects the first principles of our liberty enumerated in the Declaration of Independence. These are our “unalienable rights, among which are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” Cultural Marxism must reject these because these principles of liberty “are endowed by our Creator,” who made man in His image.

Cultural determinism, states David Horowitz, is “identity politics—the politics of radical feminism, queer revolution, and Afro-centrism—which is the basis of academic multiculturalism…a form of intellectual fascism and, insofar as it has any politics, of political fascism as well.” (Mussolini and Neo-Fascist Tribalism: Up from Multiculturalism, by David Horowitz, Jan. 1998)

It is said that courage is the first of the virtues because without it fear will paralyze man, thus keeping him from acting upon his moral convictions and speaking truth. Thus bringing about a general state of paralyzing fear, apathy, and submission—the chains of tyranny—is the purpose behind psychopolitical cultural terrorism, for the communist Left’s revolutionary agenda must, at all costs, be clothed in darkness.

The antidote is courage and the light of truth. If we are to win this cultural war and reclaim and rebuild America so our children and their children’s children can live in a ‘Shining City on the Hill’ where liberty, families, opportunity, free markets, and decency flourish, we must muster the courage to fearlessly expose the communist Left’s revolutionary agenda to the Light of Truth. Truth and the courage to speak it will set us free.

Linda Kimball really hits it out of the part with this one. My hair's practically standing on end. If she was an army, the other side would be screaming for mercy while waving white flags.

A Two-Fer of the highest order. Linda Kimball tells it like it is. People often wonder (if they have any intelligence at all) why things are going to he!! in a handbasket. This article gives us some clues.

Pass this article (and her previous related articles) on to friends and relatives who don't have a clue yet. Maybe they'll wake up from their slumber.

Ping me, DBeers, Scripter or wagglebee if you want on/off either list. Sorry I'm html impaired. Maybe in the future I'll have time to learn.

Thanks for posting this and the ping.

If we try to explain this to our family members and friends, they just look at us like we are crazy.

I now longer try to win the war with family members and even close friends. I pick my battles and situations like the Dan Blather fiasco. Then, I use that grim reality for the moderates and liberals, whenever, I'm challenged re my other observations. I will say, "Remember when you said I was crazy when I said that Dan Blather and Mary Mapes lied and fabricated an attempted coup against our President? You will not be laughing when X (what we are discussing) shows me to be correct again.

Currently, I'm in that situation as family members and friends, priests and bishops are trying to tell us and me that the new head Episcopal Bishop, the new radical lib is not a moderate as we are being told. I cut short any conservations where they try to tell me that she is a moderate with, "Don't Pee on my leg and call it rain! She is as moderate as Hilliarly Clintoon is."

Gramsci himself was a hunchback who saw himself as a crusader for everyone 'neglected' by society. In effect, he turned Marxism into a collection of everyone, many losers, who was angry at society. The perfect material for demagogues.

He also was smart enough to reject scientific socialism, realizing that believed in the inevitability of Communist victory made you feel good, but meant nothing. For this he was attacked by the real dogmatic Communists.

At the same time, he was also a Sicilian nationalist, believing that his island had been colonized and mistreated by the mainland.

Altogether, a smart man who had an extremely distorted worldview due to his own unfortunate life.

Nails it with good history to boot. I had a Hungarian prof who grew up under communism - he saw the signs early on and told me that I had to know about Antonio Gramsci. Folks who come to this country from an authoritarian regime are able to see the signs earlier and clearer than those of us who grew up in the land of the free and home of the brave. Sort of ironic.

Gay groups, however radical, are most likely pursuing their own gay agenda, not some broader communist ideology. They may be wrong, and their ideas may be pernicious, but such groups choose their ideology based on their own calculations.

A lot of this looks like Linda can't accept having won a major battle. When you win, the other side doesn't simply go away. It retools its message.

Debating whether today's cultural leftism is "really" the same communist or socialist message of the past looks like something of a dead end. Do conservatives "really" want to restore 19th century conditions and policies, or have we moved on? I think the second is true, not the first.

You certainly raise some excellent points. I would argue that you are perhaps presenting a false dichotomy - you are saying that either the gay agenda is just that - something being used to promote the welfare and rights of a particulary group - or a communist, gramscian attempt to destroy the moral fibre of a country and that it has to be one or the other.

I think I'd disagree for two reasons.

First of all, I see no a priori reason why it has to be just one or the other and not, in fact, both.

Secondly, the article presented some good historical evidence where Gramsci and the Hungarian (Lukasz?) and possibly others set out to deliberately promote aberrent sexual behavior to promote their communist agenda. While this sort of historical evidence is not, in and of itself, proof - it does suggest that there may be something to all of this.

An excellent article, and thanks for posting. There are a couple of features that resulted from the Frankfurt school that transformed conventional Marxism utterly. It is difficult to remember that this was originally a dissident school of Marxism, not its mainstream. It certainly is mainstream now.

Toward this end, Marcuse—who favored polymorphous perversion—expanded the ranks of Gramsci’s new proletariat by including homosexuals, lesbians, and transsexuals.

I've always felt that Marcuse's entire approach to Marxism was no more than a cover to rationalize some really weird sexual proclivities. Eros And Civilization was essentially an effort to incorporate Freud with Marx in a combination that would have made either one of them blanch with horror. But it is important to realize that this is no "proletariat," nor even a more broadly-defined working class, this is a class of the oppressed defined by its view of its oppressors, even if the latter are imaginary. That is the single most significant mutation of Marxism since Karl met Friedrich.

There are several features to this new approach that make it extremely seductive to the politically naive. First, it explains adversity as the action of a malevolent outside party, identifying that party as a class enemy and promising a bright new world that results from the destruction of one you hate. Second, it offers moral absolution for anything the oppressed cares to do in order to accomplish that destruction. Third, it offers an intellectually attractive veneer for such basic human motivations as hatred, envy, covetousness, and sadism. And fourth, it wraps the whole thing up in easily digestible bits that are easy to communicate and just nebulous enough to be difficult to refute.

Underlying this doctrine is the simple assertion "I am smarter than you are and therefore ought to be in charge of you." The authoritarian tendency noted in a political doctrine that ostensibly leads to equality is a universal feature in all manifestations of Marxism, and the louder its proponents shout against fascism the more nearly they approach it themselves.

Fair enough. You're going to have different groups pursuing different ends for different reasons, though. It sounds like some people argue that whatever such groups do out of what they take to be their self-interest, is really motivated by some sort of Gramscian masterplan.

Once a country gets a large enough group of self-defined "gays" or homosexuals, they're going to promote an ideology of self-assertiveness, and they don't need communists or socialists to develop it for them. To be sure, though, leftists and gays may come to feel that they have interests in common, and gays may take over part of the left's ideology, but it's not like we can blame the whole thing on communist ideas.

My Mother in Law's Methodists church went down the drain about two decades ago with Lesbian/Gay ministers, a love affair with Castro and other dictators. She didn't want her funeral service in the Church she had going to for close to 90 years. Nor did she want any liberal Methodist Ministers doing her service.

I refuse to allow that to happen to me. We have been unchanged inspite what happened two summers ago at our parrish level. Several of us are saying "Don't pee on our legs and call the new head bishop a moderate."

The Clinton administration is populated by individuals like Bill who were antiwar activist during Vietnam. Honor and truth telling was not a desired characteristic for Clinton and his antiwar friends in the late 60's and early 70's. It is not hard to understand why they are such skillful liars when their radical past is considered.

Senator J. William Fulbright - The guiding hand behind Clinton during this era was senator Fulbright. Bill Clinton was at Georgetown University in 1968 and also had a job in the office of Senator J. William Fulbright. Clinton was an eyewitness to Fulbright's success in destroying the American consensus on Vietnam. Fulbright was an extremist and lead a bitter fight with LBJ and Nixon against America's Vietnam policy. He was not particularly concerned with the truth. After graduation in 1968, Clinton was available for the draft (1-A). However, through Senator Fulbright's influence with the Arkansas draft board and with various lies, Bill Clinton was able to avoid military service during the Vietnam War.

Jim McDougal - During 1968, Clinton also became friends with Jim McDougal, then an assistant to Fulbright. With Fulbright's influence, Clinton ran unopposed for Attorney General in the mid 1970's. The relationship between Clinton, McDougal and Fulbright became so strong that the three entered into a successful land deal in Arkansas in 1977.

Clinton, then Arkansas attorney general, bought 20 acres of land from Rolling Manor Inc., a company owned by James McDougal and Fulbright. This deal made the partners 75% profit and was the first step to Whitewater.

Strobe Talbott - During 1969, while at Oxford (dodging the draft with the ROTC enlistment), Clinton became friends with Strobe Talbott. Clinton was an antiwar protester in England and Russia during this period and helped organize demonstrations (down with America) that burned the American flag. Talbott was aware of these events. He latter went to graduate school at Yale Law with both Clintons.

Fast forward to 1991. At this time, Strobe Talbott was the Washington Bureau Chief of Time magazine and a key Clinton defender. In a 1991 article, Talbott condemned those who would raise moral issues about Bill Clinton.

In the spring of 1992, he wrote a story about Clinton's conscience - wrestling about the draft while at Oxford. Theses stories by Talbott were big lies. Clinton rewarded Talbott by making him the number two person at the State Department. Sidney Blumenthal - The top White House spin master is a long time friend of the Clintons. Blumenthal is a former member of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS).

The SDS was a key player in the antiwar movement and advocated violence. Vanity Fair magazine reports that Blumenthal is -- or at least once was -- a Communist accuses him of joining former SDS leader Carl Oglesby in "something called the Assassination Information Bureau" -- an effort to exonerate Marxist assassin Lee Harvey Oswald by discrediting the Warren Commission report on Oswald's murder of President Kennedy.

In 1968, SDS leaders traveled to communist Czechoslovakia, where they met with leaders of the Viet Cong and "held a seminar with the Communists on how to conduct their psychological warfare campaign against the United States.

Blumenthal learned the art of the big lie from from the masters of propaganda. Senator John Kerry - A goal of the antiwar movement during the Vietnam was to vilify combat soldiers and marines so that public opinion would turn from support to doubt. A fellow traveler of the antiwar movement then was John Kerry of Massachusetts (currently junior senator).

In January of 1971, Jane Fonda and other antiwar leaders organized a show trial called the Winter Soldier hearings in Detroit. These hearings included fake witnesses and fabricated events as well as some real personal stories. Kerry, at this time was a discharged and decorated navy veteran with political aspirations and was a key participant in these hearings. Winter Soldier statements claimed that war crimes were accepted policy in Vietnam and were committed on a day-to-day basis with the full awareness of officers at all levels of command.

The intention of Winter Soldier was to create a graphic story of "out of control" americans killing innocent Vietnamese and the futility of the war. Claims of civilian casualties were greatly overestimated. The big lie worked and public doubt about American involvement in the war increased. Also, the unfortunate consequence of Winter Soldier is the negative and untrue portrayal of Vietnam combat veterans that was created and lasts until today.

History has revealed that John Kerry in 1971 was unconcerned that Winter Soldier testimony was not altogether truthful. Even when an fellow organizer of the Winter Soldier hearings was reviled to be a liar, John Kerry pressed on. In April of 1971, he testified before the Senate Committee of Foreign Relations (Fulbright). This hearing was televised and he again made his false claims that war crimes was the accepted policy of the military in Vietnam. The truth is that the Vietnam War was not any more brutal than previous wars. Observers with experience in Vietnam such as Peter Arnet, Daniel Ellsberg, David Halberstam, Neil Sheehan, and Morley Safer support this point of view.

John Kerry was the Democratic nominee for the U.S. House, 1972 but was defeated in the general election. Organized Labor - The Left rejoiced when Sweeney became head of the AFL-CIO smelling a chance to capture the unions that it had not had since before the Vietnam War. Sweeney's staff is heavily dependent on long-time radicals. "The AFL-CIO is dominated at the department level by an SDS alumni association. These are Sweeney's base and where he gets his ideas from. Many of the old campus radicals around Carey had shilled for the Black Panthers, cheered on Ho Chi Minh, and cut sugar cane in Cuba. They are latter-day Leninists.

Sandy Berger - Clinton met Berger when they were working for McGovern's 1972 presidential campaign. Sandy Berger opposed the Vietnam War not by protesting but working to get like-minded candidates -- Bobby Kennedy, George McGovern -- elected. The connection also extends to Senator Fulbright who joined his law firm after retiring from the Senate in 1975. Fulbright became a role model for Berger.

Look here, from From “Mutiny Does Not Happen Lightly: The Literature of the American Resistance to the Vietnam War”

The game of the rich has caught up to Pig America. The Vietnamese have kicked ass out of U.S. occupational troops. More and more G.I.’s will no longer listen to Pig Nixon’s orders and are turning their guns around on the real enemy. The Provisional Revolutionary Government in Vietnam (Viet Cong) has led the Vietnamese people to complete victory.

–Roxboro School SDS- Cleveland Heights – June 4, 1972

Recently many articles have appeared in the movement press expounding the virtues of deserting and going AWOL. “Come to Canada and be a man.” “Soldiers are pigs,” “To remain in the imperialist U.S. Army rather than leaving is comparable to being a Nazi.” Last year there were, by Pentagon counts,, 250,000 AWOL’s and over 53,000 deserters. This has not made much of a dent in the fighting strength of the U.S.Army. That dent has clearly come from the heroic struggle of the Vietnamese people under the leadership of the NLF and the Provisional Revolutionary Government.

Tailgunner Joe--Where Have You Gone, Joe McCarthy?

Excerpt from thread:

(snip)

When Senator McCarthy, the Senator-elect, arrived in Washington December 1946, about two weeks before being sworn in, three days later he and his administrative assistant were invited to have lunch with James Forrestal, Secretary of the Navy. The Senator often wondered why the busy Secretary of the Navy discovered that a freshman Senator had arrived in town and why he took so much time to discuss our nation's problems with him. I think we can see God's hand in this, and the Senator often told us he thanked God many times for Forrestal's time and advice.

Forrestal was fully knowledgeable about Communist penetration and influence in our government. He was able to bring Senator up to date on communist influence in our schools, in all our educational systems, in our news media, and definitely in our government. In the State Department, for instance, Communists had recommended Communists for jobs and then recommended each other for raises until some of them were in policy making positions where our foreign policy was definitely slanted towards Soviet objectives.

Before talking to Jim Forrestal, Senator McCarthy admits he thought we were losing to Communism because of incompetence or stupidity on the part of our national planners; he mentioned that to Forrestal. Senator McCarthy claimed he would never forget Forrestal's answer: "McCarthy," he said, "consistency has never been a mark of stupidity. If our State Department boys were merely stupid, they would make a mistake in our favor once in awhile." Forrestal then told the Senator that the FBI had not been asleep; however, all during the thirties and forties they had continued investigations of subversion and had copious files on Communist infiltration into American government, but no way to bring it to the attention of the American people, and no authority to remove the traitors from the government.

(snip)

This brings us to Senator McCarthy's death. He was in his 40s when he died on May 2, 1957. He died at Bethesda Naval Hospital, the same hospital from which that other great Patriot, Secretary of the Navy, Forrestal, fell or was thrown to his death. Senator McCarthy's death certificate reads "Hepatitis Unknown." There were so many conflicting reports concerning his death that it is very confusing.

I wonder if Irey can use this for her campaign?

Maybe someone can get it into an editorial relevant to Murtha's Code Pink endorsement?

The Syrian-Iraqi Baath party and its Nazi beginnings

Excerpt:

In Arabic, baath means renaissance or resurrection. The Baath Arab Socialist Party, to give the organisation its formal title, is the original secular Arab nationalist movement, founded in Damascus in the 1940s to combat Western colonial rule.

Where was Hitler from?

The Victory of Socialism in the Soviet Union (1925-1941 )

On April 28, 1945, Hitler married Braun and wouldn't/couldn't produce Aryanian Citizenship papers.

He supposedly died on April 30, 1945. Was his death/disappearance because he couldn't produce papers?

Hitler's Islamic name was Abu Ali

A good article but one thing I found missing is the 60s generation and their attempt at cultural revolution. A lot of people from that generation were influenced by these communist thinkers and, in turn, popularized their ideas. For example, the whole idea of liberation -- sexual, racial, spiritual, political -- a liberation from the man, the capitalist system or establishment -- comes from these communist thinkers. Many of the starry-eyed students that were 60s protestors went on to become professors and carried on the subversive Marxist tradition in the universities with post modern thought. The Long March by Roger Kimball is a great read on this subject.

Alright. Smoothsailing, you are going to have to send me some info about that area. What paper? Procedures for submitting an editorial and details of such.
