Pelosi: July Job Report Shows Bush Economy Heading in Wrong Direction

Washington, D.C.– House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement today on the tepid jobs report released today that showed only 113,000 new jobs were created in July and the unemployment rate is up to 4.8 percent, while real wages have remained stagnant over the last three years:

“As bad economic news for middle-income families living paycheck to paycheck adds up, Republicans continue to play politics with the economic well-being of millions of families.

“Gas prices and health care costs are doubling, oil prices remain at a record level, and real family income has stalled. In response, Republicans proposed tying a pay raise for hard-working Americans to tax breaks for the privileged few that will drive up the already record national debt. Last night, Senate Democrats stopped the Republicans’ cynical ploy that ties an increase in the minimum wage for 7 million Americans to cuts in the estate tax for the 7,500 wealthiest families in America, while adding $800 billion to the deficit.

"It is immoral that millions of workers earning the minimum wage have not gotten a raise in nine years. Before Congress adjourns for the year, we must have a vote in Congress to raise the minimum wage to $7.25 an hour. But that means a clean bill – a straight up or down vote on increasing the minimum wage.

“Democrats have a New Direction for America, one that brings economic opportunity and security to all Americans by rewarding hard work and raising the minimum wage.”

Have I just missed the part where people are FORCED to work for minimum wage instead of finding a job that pays them more, or improving their skills so they are able to do so???

pick....pick....pick....glum news...glum news....dispair....dispair....depressing...depressing...sadness...sadness...

This is the theme of the RAT party...never has changed in the 62 years I've been on this earth.....nothing is ever good, every thing is bad....bad....bad...

There IS NO way I will be content to have a RAT in office...and if one does get in, I will show MORE hatred than they have ever shown my President....count on it!

I decided to look back 10 years for the unemployment rate in 7/96. It was 5.5.

The national average mortgage rate in April of 1996 was 8.18.

As for the minimum wage crap, the democrats proved that they'd rather stick it to the rich than "help the poor." Call it a Republican trick if you want, the dems fell for it. Idiots.

Oh, this moron socialist witch just never give up. In typical liberal fashion, she is blind to her own stupidity. Always trying to spin reality to the way they want it --- always negative, defeatist, creating downsides that do not exist...just never stops. Welcome to the useless ThugoRats.

Anybody that is only making minimum wage during this economic boom is probably illegal. Maybe the Dems should tell their poor constituents that they should have paid more attention in school instead of screwing and hitting the bong. Nobody to blame but themselves. We all have choices in life and some people made the wrong choice. Not my problem, nor my fault. I will give people a hand up anyday regardless of who they are, but I will not give handouts.

Call me heartless for all I care.

Yep, and sKerry "has a plan."

Let's see the details. How it gets funded, etc.

July Job Report Shows Bush Economy Heading in Wrong Direction

The biggest concern to me, Nancy, is that you still have a job.

Free Stuff! Free Stuff! The Government Owes You Free Stuff! The More Nonproductive and Lazy You Are, The More Free Stuff The Government Owes You!

The same old DemonRAT crapola.

Fortunately, what saves us election after election is that the true believers in the Free Stuff doctrine don't arrive at the polls and vote. It makes their DemonRAT overlords crazy but they feel that even the tiny amount of effort involved in casting a ballot compromises the Purity of the Idea.

This is part of the base of the Democrat Party -- the uninspired, the unmotivated, the unskilled, the uncreative, the thoroughly dependent.

They are all such morons. The sad part is that the voters are equally moronic that put them in office -- and therein lies the big problem.
