More Inconsistencies In Qana As the plot thickens, the waters are getting muddier:

1. A French-language Lebanese magazine, Libanoscopie, is now reporting a new wrinkle based upon a source they have inside Hezbollah:

¡°We have it from a credible source that Hezbollah, alarmed by Siniora¡¯s plan, has concocted an incident that would help thwart the negotiations¡­. Hezbollah gunmen placed a rocket launcher on the roof in Qana and brought disabled children inside, in a bid to provoke a response by the Israeli Air Force. In this way, they were planning to take advantage of the death of innocents and curtail the diplomatic initiative,¡± the site stated.

The site¡¯s editors claimed that Hezbollah staged the event because of Qana¡¯s symbolic significance: ¡°They used Qana because the village had already turned into a symbol for massacring innocent civilians, and so they set up ¡®Qana 2¡ä.¡± The incident has indeed been dubbed ¡°The second Qana massacre¡± by the Arab media.

2. The media is consistently reporting that 60 dead bodies have been pulled from the rubble. But in fact, the Lebanese Red Cross says that only 28 bodies were recovered.

3. Where were all the men? NBC¡¯s Richard Engel says,

¡°We were trying to figure out today where all the men were in this village. If you noticed, all the people in the basement of this three-story building that was hit yesterday by two Israeli airstrikes were women and children, a lot of them young boys. So we went house to house in trying to figure out where all the young men were.

It seems that some of them were fighters, some of them were Hezbollah members that were out ¡ª this according to Hezbollah people who didn¡¯t want to be interviewed but we convinced them to talk to us.¡±

4. The Dead Baby Handler, aka Green Helmet Guy, has made yet another PR appearance, accompanied by his ever-present sidekick, White TShirt Guy, this time on Al Jazeera TV! He¡¯s breathing heavy as if just completeing a fast run, but his clothing is nice and clean, and his girly voice is all squeaky from his emoting. Check out all the cameras in the area, and how the rescue workers place the gurney on the ground so eveyrone can get their photo-op.

Ok, so I guess he goes by the name Abdel Qader, which apparently can be a first or last name, or both, or hyphenated, so for now, I¡¯ll just keep calling him the Dead Baby Handler.

5. A new incredibly contradictory and sloppy article in Haaretz claims that the reason rescue teams couldn¡¯t make it to Qana is because night conditions made the rescue mission difficult, indicating that they were indeed called at night. But that same article claims that the phones were down, and that¡¯s why rescue teams weren¡¯t called until morning. If phones were down, how was the call placed?! Answer: the phones weren¡¯t down. The call was placed in the morning. When they were ready.

Why do so many in the West mindlessly slurp up the propaganda?

Another tactic in this ¡°asymmetric¡± war is to make the Israelis the bad guys for resisting terrorism. Jews have a well-cultivated sense of guilt (take my word for it). And, for obvious reasons, no insult could hurt more than depicting Jews as Nazis. Hence, the nigh-upon global campaign to depict Israelis as the heirs to Hitler. Of course, ad hitlerum argumentation is just the tip of the propaganda spear. ¡°Aggression,¡± ¡°apartheid,¡± ¡°racist¡±: No insult is barred from the anti-Israel script.

Terrorize your enemy and make them feel like villains in the process ¡ª that¡¯s a powerful strategy. This strategy depends on the willing support of what Lenin called ¡°useful idiots.¡± These are the accommodating Westerners ¡ª many of them intellectuals ¡ª all too willing to take the word of totalitarians and even more eager to believe that the champions of democracy are in the wrong.

All in all, Qana has proven to be a PR bonanza for Hezbollah at a time when they¡¯er on the ropes and needed it most. The dramatically-dubbed ¡°Qana massacre¡± was very convenient for Hezbollah politically. As Goldberg noted, ¡°It stymied Condoleezza Rice¡¯s visit to Beirut, forestalled talk of disarming Hezbollah, and rallied international opinion around the terrorist group.¡± Not bad¡­not bad at all. And all for the cost of a couple dozen dead children. We¡¯ll no doubt see sequels to this summer blockbuster, coming soon to a media outlet near you. Stay tuned¡­

Yep, the photo caption says she's dead. Aside from the other photos of her that I've compared, she looks way too clean. The caption also says that they pulled her out from under rubble of a collapsed building. Funny, I don't see a speck of concrete dust in her hair or dirt on her skin.
