Perhaps the effects of the alcohol are the same once they start, but the different flavors put your brain in a different state before the alcoholic effects hit?

Shalom.

In my hardest drinking days I avoided tequila. For one, mixed tequila drinks (sunrises and margaritas) give my face very pronounced beet-red splotches. This happens every time I'd drink one of these drinks, usually about 20 minutes after I'd imbibe. Straight tequila just makes me mean and spiteful.

I was always a happy drunk --except when I drank tequila. There is just something about the additional ingredients in tequila --and this would be confirmed by many people who have gotten drunk from tequila.
