The Fajr-5 (Arabic, Persian: ÝÌÑ-5, meaning "dawn-5") is an artillery rocket developed by Iran in early 2006. The system is part of the Fajr family of rockets.

In May 2006, Iran's Aerospace Industries Organization (AIO) has developed an upgraded version of the well-established Fadjr-5 333 mm (4-round) unguided surface-to-surface artillery rocket system (ARS).[1]

The latest production of the Fadjr-5 is installed on a new Mercedes-Benz 6 x 6 forward control chassis and the platform is now integrated into a complete weapon system rather than an individual launcher. To provide a more stable firing platform four hydraulically operated stabilisers are lowered to the ground before firing.

The new chassis has improved cross-country mobility and the forward control fully enclosed cab provides space for the driver and two passengers. Another fully enclosed cabin to the immediate rear of the cab houses the remainder of the crew. The new Mercedes-Benz chassis is similar to that manufactured in China, which is used as the basis for the Norinco (China North Industries Corporation) 122 mm (40-round) Type 90 ARS.

While the primary role of this artillery rocket system is the engagement of land targets, AIO says that a radar can be added to give the system the capability to track and engage naval targets. The Fajr-5 missile, which is launched from a mobile platform, reportedly has a range of 75 kilometers, or 50 miles.

sadly, a significant death toll expected in Haifa on top of 12 IDF reservists killed today at Kfar Giladi. well, is it "proportionate" enough for you yet, world press?

Fox also had good footage of rockets taking off from Tyre.
If you live in Tyre you might want to spend the next couple of weeks below ground. Most of would like to see you below ground.

Source of the fire was Tyre, Lebanon. You know they prefer it when the Jews are the victims and their enemies are unscathed.

Military commentator on FOX suspects the Israelis will throw 3 - 4 divisions into the fight now. If so, this will make a huge difference and it proves that Hizbollah wants a whipping.

It's time for the Christian world community to start earnestly praying for Israel. THEY MUST DEFEAT the terrorists! Every eye is on Israel and it's crucial they crash the enemy....very seriously! We must start a prayer vigil for them. Being so far from there, that's about the only thing we can do besides support and stand next to her! Father in heaven, please give Israel a supernatural victory against her evil enemies!

I agree. And if Iran complains, just tell them that they were rockets from HizButthole, that simply overflew their targets.

4 divisions is 100,000 + , that is alot of ground troops. Can't see Israel having more then 6 counting reserves.

NO, that's not correct. Today divisions are much smaller even in Israel. I'd say a disision is 12 - 14,000. Brigades are around 4,000.

Not sure if these numbers are correct - but this is what I found.

The IDF as of August, 2004 had (according to unofficial estimates) 168,000 personnel, including 107,500 conscripts. The army had 125,000; the navy had 8,000; the air force had 35,000. Full mobilization to 576,000 could be quickly achieved with the reserves of 408,000

In 1983, the United States and Israel established a Joint Political Military Group, which convenes twice a year. Both the U.S. and Israel participate in joint military planning and combined exercises, and have collaborated on military research and weapons development. Additionally the U.S. military maintains two classified, pre-positioned War Reserve Stocks in Israel valued at $493 million. [1] Israel has the official distinction of being an American Major non-NATO ally. As a result of this, America shares the vast majority of its security and military technology with Israel.

Agreed. Syria deserves to have its military destroyed because of the aid it's giving terrorists in Iraq. We've turned a blind eye to that despite the killings of our forces there.

Yeah, it's not sophisticated, but it is a qualitative step up in range and warhead size. Still, the IDF can put a 2,000 bomb exactly where it wants. That's sophisticated.

Ok fine,I accept that, used to be 20,000 + in my day but times have changed, in either case I do not think Israel can safely commit 4 divisions to Lebanon, which was my point, not trivia on the current size of a division.

Take out Syrian storage sites and transfer points. That would send a message that the Israelis won't allow Syria to transship the weapons that kill Israelis while Syria's dictators military infrastructure remains unscathed and undiminished.

I've been reaily informed that

Division - 10,000 to 15,000 soldiers. Usually consisting of three brigade-sized elements and commanded by a major general, divisions are numbered and assigned missions based on their structures. The division performs major tactical operations for the corps and can conduct sustained battles and engagements.

This definition leaves out the most important part. A Division is the smallest army unit able to operate independately.

Really did not want to get side tracked on the size of a division. I just think commiting 4 Division into Lebanon might be walking into a trap by leaving to few troops to protect flanks. That's all, but I am sure the IDF will not walk into a trap, so I am not worried.

NO CEASE FIRE till Hezballah is destroyed

You'd think that the world would know better than to appease killers

Millions of lives would have been saved, if someone had destroyed Hitler in the 1930's The Road to WWII

Hitler rearms the nation in direct violation of the treaty of Versailles and then proceeds to remilitarize the strategic Rhineland region. All of this was in direct violation of the Treaty but yet no nation attempted to stop Hitler. France was in particular position to act and could have easily ended Hitler's militaristic expansion but did not do so fearing war.
Millions of lives can be saved if Islamo-Fascist Terrorists are destroyed.

And I wasn't picking a fight with you. I agree that the IDF will not walk into a trap. But I fear that the politicians there will not take the fight to Syria. Syria is the state-sponsor of terror who plays the key role for Iran and Hizbollah.

The US also owes Syria, but for some reason we turn a blind eye as they aid the killers of Americans, other coalition partners, and Iraqis in Iraq. That's a tough one to explain.

Given that every able-bodied non-muslim Israeli of military age is a reservist or a soldier, and their population is about 5 million, I wouldn't be surprised if they could put a million and a half troops into the field if necessary. But pure numbers are not how modern war is fought anymore - Saddam's half-million-strong army didn't get him very far, and wouldn't have at twice its number.

4 Divisions would be 40,000 or so, out of 400,000 or so. I think they could, and they probably will. Or at least some approximation of that number.
