Reuters admits image of Beirut after IAF strike was doctored [Adnan Hajj fired]

Excerpt -

Reuters said that it has fired Adnan Hajj, the Lebanese photographer who submitted the image. The organization also said that it is investigating the incident.

"The photographer has denied deliberately attempting to manipulate the image, saying that he was trying to remove dust marks and that he made mistakes due to the bad lighting conditions he was working under," said Moira Whittle, the head of public relations for Reuters.

"This represents a serious breach of Reuters' standards and we shall not be accepting or using pictures taken by him," Whittle said in a statement issued in London.

Hajj worked for Reuters as a non-staff freelance, or contributing photographer, from 1993 until 2003 and again since April 2005.

Ah, yes, Adnan Hajj - the same Islamic propagandist who photographed the staged idiocy at Qana.

Does that mean photos taken by him will not be considered for whatever the award is for photography???

He is the one who shot this photo.

I will bet you it gets photo of the year by the media.

We have the Qana gaggle of photogs, Mr Green Helmet and his men and now the wailing old lady:

2 pics of the same woman on two different days one by AP , one by Reuters, in which she is bewailing the loss of her home(s).

I thought al-Rooters al-Reuters intially claimed the photographer didn't work in their "news" division. Now al-Reuters is saying the photographer did work in their "news" division.

In today's world, virtually all professionals use digital cameras which (obviously) don't require dust removal in post-processing. This is a ridiculous excuse.

On Sunday, Reuters removed the retouched picture from its catalogue and replaced it with the original

Wouldn't the possession of the original imply that perhaps the PhotoShopping was done at Reuter's office rather than by the photographer ?

No, I believe that's what they claimed regarding the Reuters employee who sent a death threat to LGF...

I thought al-Reuters intially claimed the photographer didn't work in their "news" division.

"Reuters withdraws photograph of Beirut after Air Force attack after US blogs, photographers point out ‘blatant evidence of manipulation.’ Reuters’ head of PR says in response, ‘Reuters has suspended photographer until investigations are completed into changes made to photograph.’ Photographer who sent altered image is same Reuters photographer behind many of images from Qana, which have also been subject of suspicions for being staged.”
— Yaakov Lappin, August 6, 2006 Jerusalem Post

So, his 'suspension' may just be temporary -- until the 'investigation' is complete (or until the ruckus dies down).

"Oops! SORRY!
We "forgot" to review our own photos!"
[for OBVIOUS fabrications]

"VERY serious. We're sorry. Investigation underway, blahblah."

If Bush's Admin did this, he'd be toast, front page news etc. Too bad the MSM doesn't give ITSELF the same careful, months-long, long lingering treatment. They fire the photog, & "So what? Whater YOU lookin at, Let's move on!," no higher up heads will fall, etc.

Double standard - YES
