Glenn Hodas: GOP Friend or Foe?
Various ^ | 8 August 2006 | NautiNurse

Glenn Hodas left the Katherine Harris campaign July 13, on the eve of Harris' surgery to rule out ovarian cancer.  Since his departure, it appears Mr. Hodas can't find a news reporter he doesn't like.  News sources are packed with stories quoting Hodas and his thesaurus full of Katherine Harris descriptions.

“Unhealthy,” “unmanageable,” “uncontrollable,” “erratic behavior,” “tantrums,” “counterproductive,” “micromanaging,” “damaging” are all Hodas’ characterizations of Harris captured in an interview published by every news source from FOX News to The Guardian  July 14, 2006.  Day after day, we read about Glenn Hodas and his horrific life altering experience working for the Katherine Harris campaign.

Where does Hodas find time to take a breath, visit a therapist, or find a new campaign consulting client?

After his initial media love fest, Hodas wasted little time climbing  back into the news saddle to discuss a subpoena Harris had received.  Hodas' description  of his discovery rivals the skills of Hercule Poirot. Incidentially, Agatha Christie tired of her own creation, describing him as a "bombastic, tiresome, ego-centric little creep."

"But I don't want to comment any further on what appears to be a pending investigation," Hodas told the Tampa Tribune August 2, 2006.
If only we could believe you, Mr. Hodas.  Two days later, Hodas was back in the Tampa Tribune:
“Hodas remembers the document as filled with acronyms, and seemingly hastily drawn – “like someone had just whipped it out without regard to sentences.”

To date, my first and only impression of Hodas has been the daily overdose of his derisive Katherine Harris comments in all the Florida, national, and international media outlets.  So, I asked myself, why would anyone want to hire someone who trashes their former client around the world at every opportunity? What did Glenn Hodas do before he joined the notorious Katherine Harris’ campaign?

Hodas is a principal of  Hodas & Associates, whose home page provides a link to a September 2005 edition of Campaigns & Elections.  Here, we find that Glenn Hodas:

“has assisted clients on both sides of the political aisle and independents with political issue advocacy efforts and legislative needs.”

Glenn Hodas works for Democrats, Republicans, and Independents.  My curiosity piqued,  I wanted to know who these clients were.  Most apparent on the Hodas & Associates web site is the lack of former campaign clients.  No testimonials.  Who are Glenn Hodas' campaign consulting clients that cross the political spectrum?

Dateline December 2005:

“She's somehow got to convince people that, in this climate of corruption, she's a different  kind of Republican," says veteran campaign strategist Glenn Hodas. "I think that's going to be a big problem."
Another blow aimed at Katherine Harris by her former campaign manager?

Guess again.

This time Glenn Hodas, former campaign manager for U.S. Senate candidate Katherine Harris,  was talking about the former Illinois GOP chairwoman, and 2006 IL GOP Gubernatorial candidate Judy Baar Topinka.

In 2002, Glenn Hodas was campaign manager  for Lt. Gov. Corinne Wood, an Illinois GOP Gubernatorial candidate. Picture Hodas on the phone with a reporter:

"You don't want to distract from yourself with sparkling earrings or rings," said Glenn Hodas, a Springfield-based consultant who worked on her campaign. "You want people to feel they have something in common with you."

The sitting Lt. Governor Corinne Wood finished third in the GOP primary.   How sparkling were those earrings?

Following his client Woods' decisive loss, Hodas was picked up by the IL GOP primary winner, Jim Ryan,as deputy campaign manager for the 2002 Governor’s race in the General Election.

GOP candidate Jim Ryan had a formidable political history in Illinois.  He was Attorney General for two terms.  In 1994, Jim Ryan won the IL AG election 55% to 45%.  Jim Ryan won a second term in the 1998 AG election--a blowout--62% to 38%, with the endorsement of every major newspaper in the state. Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory,  Jim Ryan’s defeat in 2002 marked the first time in 30 years a Democrat became Governor of Illinois.  Where’s Glenn Hodas?

Election year 2004, Glenn Hodas joined the Illinois U.S. Senate campaign for Jack Ryan (no relation to Jim Ryan or former Governor George Ryan) in the race against Barak Obama.   After winning the 2004 GOP primary in March, Jack Ryan withdrew from the race June 25 amid salacious allegations involving his ex-wife that were originally sealed in custody records .  Alan Keyes entered the 2004 IL U.S. Senate contest August 8.   Hodas pontificates about the split of the GOP, and offers sage advice for candidate Alan Keyes:

A big Keyes loss will “leave the moderates and the conservatives reaching for each other’s throats,”  predicts top GOP operative Glenn Hodas, who has worked for candidates in both camps.  “Both  sides are going to blame each other.”

Hodas said the more material Keyes can get from Jack Ryan's campaign, the better.  But things such as letterhead, posters and signature stamps cannot be borrowed.
Barak Obama won the 2004 IL Senate election with 70% of the vote.  Where’s Glenn Hodas?

It’s 2006, and Glenn Hodas is still running his mouth about Katherine Harris to any reporter who will listen.

Is Glenn Hodas a GOP friend or foe?

Why any other candidate of any party would ever hire this egocentric blabbermouth is beyond my comprehension

He does seem to be more concerned with promoting his own fortunes and his own business as a "top political strategist" than with working on behalf of his clients. Anybody can become a hero with the press by handing them freebie quotes that bash Republicans. Reporters eat that stuff up. I agree that it's a mystery as to why anyone would want such a person on a campaign staff. Perhaps this is the first time that anyone has bothered to collect these quotes in one place.

As I said earlier, I never think much of interviewees who bad-mouth their previous employers. It just doesn't bode well for a happy future.

My eyebrows were raised more than a couple of times while researching Glenn Hodas' client history.

I will never understand or accept as appropriate Glenn Hodas' decisions to disregard client privilege and confidentiality time and again to get his name in print. Got a kick out of the media's descriptive titles for him too.

Do you think Hodas charged the Keyes campaign for his insightful advice that letterhead and signature stamps can't be borrowed?

I'm sure his check from the Keyes campaign is in the mail. I've heard that the postal service has had to buy extra trucks just to haul around all the checks from Keyes that are in the mail.

For the people who posted this rediculous post. I know who you are and your ties with the Harris campaign. I know that the researcher Amy Foster and FOURTH campaign manager Bryan Rudnick gave you this information in an attempt to hurt an intelligent, respected, and thoughtful man. I worked for Glenn and most of the other staff that has been there. Almost to a person they are good people who arrived with excitement and enthusiasm for KH. These people who have come and gone have come from various parts of the country, various walks of life, and quite frankly have been totally different personalities. The common factor is that they all leave the same way, they all have gone through the KH gauntlet. As Mike Miller (her former finance chairman who is well respected in the state) said, "it's not a staff driven, it's Katherine driven". That sums it up perfectly. I saw over 30 people come and go from that campaign and NOT ONE SINGLE ONE of them should feel a bit of shame for having enough and trying to move on with their lives. The fact that KH can't help herself and keeps on talking about them and disgracing tem shows what kind of true character she has.

You don't know squat. For sure you don't know about "my ties to the Harris campaign," since I don't have any. I've never met Harris, I've never met anyone from her campaign, I've never even donated to her campaign. I have nothing to do with her campaign. Period. Not now, not ever.

I don't know who Amy and Bryan are. Never met them, never talked to them, never got an email from them... nothing.

They say that Google is your friend. Well, sometimes Google is your enemy. Search Google for Hodas; it's easy to find all sorts of things about him. Like how much he enjoys being one those McCain-like "Republicans" who ingratiates himself with the press by giving the liberal reporters a juicy quote that slams some Republican. In Hodas' case, that usually comes right after he's taken "some Republican's" money. Then he stabs them in the back to get his own name in the paper.

Don't tell me what a respected, thoughtful man he is, because it's about time he stopped being respected. He stabs his former employers in the back. He didn't just do it once, he didn't just do it to Harris. He's done it multiple times, to multiple employers.

If you think this post was bad, just wait until somebody looks up Hodas in a serious newspaper archive like Lexis-Nexis. My hunch is that there are more such quotes.

I'll be blunt. I do not like guys who do that. My comments here had less to do with politics than with the honor of the thing. He took these people's money. He assumed a position of trust in their organizations. The least he could do is quit trying to promote his own business as a consultant by brown-nosing liberal reporters with his "former employee in-the-know" act.
